I don't know about you, but one of the hardest things for me to give up on when adjusting to a plant based diet was cheese. Dr Neal Barnard's newest book, The Cheese Trap, specifically addresses cheese addiction. It goes on sale February 28. Here's a blurb about the book from a PCRM email:

"You may be caught in a bad romance and not even know it. America has a love affair with cheese that is fraught with danger. Loaded with calories, fat, and cholesterol, cheese can contribute to weight gain and health problems. Cheese falls into the same habit-forming food categories of sugar, chocolate, and meat, triggering our dopamine receptors with its combination of fat, salt, and casomorphins. It's no surprise cheese pizza ranks No. 1 on the Yale Food Addiction Scale. Cheese and other problem foods cost taxpayers money through subsidies and higher medical expenses.

But there is hope! Dr. Barnard's newest book, The Cheese Trap, provides a program to help readers break their cheese addiction—resulting in weight loss, energy gains, and improved health outcomes. And with the treasure trove of delicious recipes in the book—you can finally break free from a destructive habit!"

Dreena Burton created the recipes for this book. Here's one for Tangy "Cashew" Cheese

“I don't understand why asking people to eat a well-balanced vegetarian diet is considered drastic, while it is medically conservative to cut people open and put them on cholesterol lowering drugs for the rest of their lives.” ~Dean Ornish

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift. That's why they call it the present. ~Eleanor Roosevelt
