The Mind Connection
Chapter 16

The Mind-Performance Connection

The first paragraph reminds us that our minds do affect our performance, in many sorts of ways. Some coaches believe that, what we believe and say is of equal importance , as strength and skill. Of course conditioning ones body is of utmost importance to succeed. However, if one doesn't think they can accomplish something, they are hindered .I'm sure we can name off famous players and Olympians, that have exhibited great confidence and drive.

Job interviews are also another area, where it is challenging to respond properly. I've seen some examples, of a person not having incredible experience, land a job. I've also seen those with an amazing resume, not receive a position. Some of this is based on politics , the number of applicants , what one is willing to do ( like any shift and hours),and other reasons that are suppose to be illegal ( but can't be substantiated). I suspect that, other occasions it has to do with attitude.

The Children of Israel, is an illustration that reveals the point of our book. In ď Worth One in a Million ď, Patricia Shire, brings to life, how Caleb ad Joshua were the only ones, that were able to perceive God's vision and desire. They were from the original group that went into the promised land. In other words they were able to receive and inherit the land, before they possessed it.

This was one of the main reasons that Abraham and Moses became the main men in the Old Testament. Hebrews chapter 11 chronicles how some people developed the ability to go beyond human understanding and reasoning.

I do appreciate that Joyce states, that we can seem to do it right, but just because we attempt to think well and act nice... it's no guarantee, we won't still have obstacles and problems. Anger and fear can visit us, but one ends up with more trust and hope, when living independently. When we submit to the Lord, it's hard to stay moody and resentful. That's not the intent of the Holy Spirit , we have to open ourselves to the Christ in us, to get beyond defeat.

Typical to her style ( and probably why she is well liked), Joyce relates her personal experience with a personal trainer. I heard last year she turned 70. She tells us the reasoning to this commitment ( that she made 10 years ago ). I wasn't sure, if I'd have the energy and health, to continue this ministry ( is essentially what she stated). Later not only was she able to do more than she even considered, but she saw principles that became natural , spilling into other areas of her life.

She would see others around her quit the club, nutritional counseling , school, work, and various plans.

Was it because of hard work, discomfort, lack of desire and motivation, inconvenience, the time involved, or some other excuses.

Her coach told her to focus on certain things, and she found it actually helped her.. The longer she practiced, the easier it became.

Along the way, Mrs. Meyer figured out she should stop dreading things she was going to do, or had get done. It was interfering with her ability to get things completed, canceling her energy, and causing her to procrastinate. Sound familiar ? Think about it. Want to finish strong and well ?

Think I can thoughts
Think I love thoughts
Think I look forward thoughts
Think enabling thoughts
Don't Give Up too quickly.
