This is a Bible quote that I need to remind myself of daily. For as Joyce so frequently says, "Where the mind goes, the man follows."

The Mind Connection
by Joyce Meyer

The Mind-Body Connection
chapter 15

The chapter begins with a quote from a famous doctor concerning the belief that our thoughts affect our physical well being. I do think that the concept of Mind-Body Connection, has been hijacked by some groups that were once reminded us of Twilight zone stories.

Since, I believe most of you are familiar with some of these ideas that holistic medicine , New Age, and popular philosophy hold; I hope we examine our beliefs , and scrutinize with teachings and life of our Lord Jesus, and the word of God.

When one searches the gospels and the epistles , we can most certainly see that God is very interested in our inner life. Also there are many verses in the book of Proverbs , about this matter.
Proverbs 4:23
23·Be careful what you think [L Above all that you guard, protect your heart],
because ·your thoughts run your life [L life flows from it].
Expanded Bible (EXB)
23More than anything you guard, protect your mind, for life flows from it.
Common English Bible (CEB)

8 For you ignore God’s specific orders and substitute your own traditions.
14Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “All of you listen,” he said, “and try to understand. 15-16[b]Your souls aren’t harmed by what you eat, but by what you think and say!”*defiles the man.”(TLB) Living Bible

8 Finally, [a]believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].
Amplified Bible (AMP)

8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
The Message Bible

Joyce then compares our bodies to our cars. We need to maintain them for” maximum ability”. We want them to last for many miles, and not to replace them prematurely. So, let's decide to make intentional effort to care for our treasured health. I hope we are good stewards of our belongings. There is a percentage of us that energy and plans with diet and exercise. I don't know if we give a lot of consideration about our thoughts and behaviors, outside of religious were practices. One thing to take account of how these things affect our physical and emotional well being.

I will aim to rehash the conceptional ideas of Dr. Carolyn Leaf( which wrote, Switch on Your Brain ), The topic is introduced on pages 162-164. I did read Doctor Leaf's book, but it is somewhat challenging material. You may grasp many of the key concepts, but it is more difficult to
dissect, since, it is both scientific and based on cutting edge suppositions. They have been able to
create scans to reveal differences with individuals . Many scientists have studied these pictures to interrupt emotional and physical variations. I would guess, that there may be a host of conclusions about the why's of these changes. Dr. Leaf believes that we may help, people, that were once considered out of the reach .

She chronicles, one case study of a young girl, that had severe brain damage. When she began to partner with Dr. Leaf, she was at 3rd grade level. If I recall properly, she was able to graduate high school .One intersting quote she articulated is that “ our brains are influenced by circunstances and events. “ So the question is, can we really change the quality of our life direction by obeying God, which the doctor insisted, can” affect our brain architecture “

I felt much of the book was fascinating, and other sections, were not of the scope of my understanding.
I was unable to come to a full conclusion, as to my opinion of parts of this material.I was trying to get my head wrapped around ,the therapy, she used in conjuction with our christian worldview.

I can say, that she stated that it was her belief that 75-85 percent of illness is affected by our mental thoughts. She felt that 2-25 percent is from environmental causes. This is a staggering think to consider. Some medical institutions have studied the effects of stress, forgiveness, and resentment, mainly concerning high blood pressure and arthritis . It is hard to swallow those statistics, because we know that we are surrounded by environmental pollution, junk food, and inactivity combined with a fast paced lifestyle.

The Institute of Health Math non profit research group conducted a experiment titled, “Local and Non
Locals Effects of Coherent Heart Frequencies on Conformational Changes of DNA . The study showed that thinking and feeling anger, fear, and frustration caused the DNA to change shapes according to and thoughts and feelings. “ The DNA became shorter and tighter and other DNA codes switched off completely. Can you believe the codes , “ were reversed by feelings of love, joy, appreciation , and gratitude. “ So, if indeed her conclusions are true, we are proving, another value of a renewed mind. Again, we can another example, as to why God tells us to :

[a]Therefore I urge you, [b]brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.
Amplied Bible Romans 12:1

In conclusion, Mrs. Meyers gives several illustartions of Bible characters and events, in which , God requested, the people to reflect on memories of His faithfulness. If you look up the verses at the completetion of this study, you find where she got these ideas. When the people would, remember, recount , recall ,God's awsome intervention, theywere enouraged. Each time they stopped, they got more selfish, independent, lost appreciation , started complainig, and went back into bondage.

Honestly, just because we reflect on and utter edifying things, desn't make our lives a bed of roses. It could give us more energy, help us focus on better things, confront problems, instead of ignoring them, keep our mouth zipped, from taking our problems out on others. Most likely, we would be more content.
20
My son, pay attention to my words and be willing to learn;
Open your ears to my sayings.
21
Do not let them escape from your sight;
Keep them in the center of your heart.
22
For they are life to those who find them,
And healing and health to all their flesh.
23
Watch over your heart with all diligence,
For from it flow the springs of life.Amplied Bible 4:20-23
