My word is establish. I want to use the year 2014 to establish the healthy eating and exercise habits that I will continue for the rest of my life.

The best piece of advice I've heard in awhile is that you shouldn't do anything to lose weight that you aren't willing to do to maintain your weight. This is key for me, because I have spent the past seven years yo-yo dieting. Take a look at my profile pic, which charts my weight every six months for the past seven years.

I start a strenous exercise program and restrictive eating habits, stick with them for several months then give up. Each time I give up I end up a little larger than when I started. This is the true definition of yo yo dieting and it has to end for me.

I am starting smaller this time, with small, impactful eating changes and a basic workout routine that won't overwhelm me that I can continue to build on. This will be the basis for the new me!

I can and I will - watch me!

My word for 2014 is Honor-- to honor my wishes and my goals. To honor my word. To honor that we are all God's children, deserving of care, love and respect. To honor Mother Earth.

I need my word to be Love. I want my actions to be determined by how I am showing love to me or others. Being strong, being kind, being fair, having respect, they all have to do with love.

Nice- I can use some follow through myself but I'm going to go with Accountable. I need to be accountable for not only my weight issues but also my job, my family and other obligations that I have. I do have a tendency to start something and get everyone excited and then fizzle out somewhere in the middle.

My word for this year is follow through. I did not do a good job in 2013 resulting in no weight loss after my baby. I am determined to be under my pre baby weight by the time he turns 1.

my word is consistency. I have failed miserably in this regard in 2013, resulting in a 20 lb weight gain. I have been determined all year to get it off but the lack of consistency has prevented me from being successful

My word this year is FOCUS.

January 31 (Posted Feb. 4). Focus continues to be a goal for me. On days thwt I start with this word in mind, I am able to be deliberate in what I eat and what I attempt to do physically. There are more days that I don[t think about focus until evening or late afternoon and by then I have loss sight of what I should be doing. I NEED A WAY TO PUT FOCUS INTO MY HEAD FROM THE TIME I WAKE UP.

February(posted March 2) The first part of the month went well. I did focus on what I was eating and feeling. My knee started to give me trouble and everything went out the door. I have trouble shopping so I was going through drive throughs for food. The swelling in my tissues causes water weight gain to say nothig of the drive through sodium and fat. I ended February angry and depressed. I was focused on the wrong things.

March(posted April8) Tried to get here earlier in the month but my computer was acting crazy. I am at work now. March was an odd month. I was focused on my knee pain and the fact that I could not get an appointment with my Ortho doctor. I ended up going to another doctor that is highly recommended. The long and short of it is that I have to have surgery. The rest of the month I was focused o n how, when, what if... I am finally resigned and have set a date. The focus was there but not on food or exercise.

April: I continued to be consume with my knee issues and the up-coming surgery. I have been frightened, angry and everything in between. When I attempted to get myself "in Hand", I focused on t hings I could control: 10 minutes of exercise daily, eating more food that I prepared. These things did not lead to weight loss but helped me to stay grounded moving into May.

This is a personal activity. You select the word that you will use to review your actions and activities this year. Blog or write in your journal about why you have chosen the word. Then at least once a month, I proposed the last day or a day within the last three days of the month, come back and record your review or reflection. If you use the same post and edit each month, you will have a running account of how you are using, reflecting and perhaps being influenced in your actions by the word you chose.
