H Raven,
at works best for me is having no sugar in the house no sugar in the car don't even put sugar in your shopping cart. If I have it around me I will eat it. I have no willpower against sugar which they say is as addictive if not more than cocaine. Kick all l sugar products to the curb, emoticon

I want to stop eating all types of sugar because I’m a type two diabetic and I need to keep my A1C at a normal level and it’s not right now, not by a long shot.

All I ever seem to want to do a snack on sweets. The good thing is that I gave up candy bars permanently. I haven’t had one in three months, I’m proud of myself for that.

Now I just need to end eating sweet things all together it’s very bad for my joint disease which is every joint in my body.

Oh Great Spirit who dwells in the sky, lead us to the path of peace and understanding. Our lives are so short here, walking upon Mother Earth's surface. Let our eyes be opened to all the blessings you have given us. Please hear our prayers, oh Great Spirit.

I want to cut down on sugar because it increases the pain of my arthritis and lower back, inflames my eczema, and type II diabetes runs in my family. I've already had one heart attack, so it's time to lose weight and get healthy!

The reason I want to cut down on sugar is because I have a sweet tooth (possibly even a sugar addiction) so I know I'm not practicing moderation or eating a healthy amount. I am diabetic and all this extra sugar is extra carbs, so it makes it harder for me to manage my diabetes.

I am trying to lose 15 lbs. I have had 6 knee surgeries and, even though I walk everyday, the weight has just added up! My husband is a Type 2 diabetic, so I use Splenda, etc. when cooking, but I think my metabolism has slowed down (I am 70) so I am trying to really watch empty calories, like cookies, desserts, etc. I know it would be much better for both of us to really watch the "hidden" sugars, so I am trying to do that when I shop and cook for us.

I finally saw that Sugar Film on Netflix and it can really open your eyes to how bad sugar can be.
I really love my sweets and salts.
I have to cut down on both. Hopefully avoid as much sugar as I can.
The salt I am doing good with as long as I stay away from the junk foods.
Have a great weekend.

I'm a type 2 diabetic and I need to cut out sugar 100% out as well. I do use splenda and stevia. Tea, coffee, and a diet soda are my "treats". I can certainly live with that!

If I eat sugar or have to many refined carbs, it will literally kill me. I'll suffer from diabetic complications and die early!

No thanks!

I need to cut it 100%. Just "a little enjoyment in life" is killing me. I need to focus on substitutes. coffee and tea with Splenda is something I can sip while others enjoy dessert. I can also sip red wine instead of digging into dessert.

I don't feel a need to cut down on artificial sweeteners. But when faced with sweets.. cakes, cookies, pies, scones., I want to have one piece and stop there or to be able to say no.

Being a diabetic, sugar is not my friend. Having trouble with the word moderation when it comes to sugar. This is one of the months that sweetness is my downfall. Need to continue keeping my AiCs well below 7% for the New Year. So far so good!

I'm one of those that if I see it my strength breaks down and I eat it. My fianc brings in donuts , ice cream, candy, pies and cake. He has a sweettooth. But he isn't big like me.

I want to cut down on my sugar intake because it's a vicious cycle: I crave sweets, I eat them, I crave more sweets. My son is a toddler and though they can be picky, I can't let his love of goldfish, pretzel sticks and Oreos become his diet any more than my own. I want to be able to position sweets in the context of balanced nutrition for him and the only way I can do that is by modeling it for him.

The main reason I want to cut out sugar is health. My father passed away this year from complications due to diabetes. His last 5 years of life were hell. I want to avoid that outcome.

Second is weight loss
Third is I have found that it contributes to aches and pains in the body which I already have thanks to not having a thyroid. Oh yeah and I'm not getting any younger.

The struggle you're in today is developing the strenght you need for tomorrow.

I want to cut sugar down to a minimum, if not cut it out completely because: 1) I am diabetic and my sugars are running high all the time. 2) sugar seems to be an addiction for me and I have an incredibly difficult time controlling my intake. You know how they say "eat just enough to satisfy you" - but for me that's a whole box of cookies or candy, I can't stop at one bite. I fear I will have to give it up entirely, as I can't seem to limit or control it's intake. There's a part of me that thinks that life wouldn't be much fun without it.

The reasons I want to cut down on sugar is it seems to have too much control over me. I think I'll have a small portion then I find myself wanting more. I can eat other things but is keeps calling me, have a little more. Working hard on keeping out of the things I do control.

I need to cut down on sugar because it's not a fun thing for me, it's a thing I turn to when I'm stressed or sad. Beyond the health reasons, I would like to make sugar a small, planned choice. So rather than this huge list I've made of all the stuff I ate this week while I was sad/stressed/in a hurry, I'd like it to become just a bit of honey in my tea and waiting to enjoy that treat at my kid's birthday party.

Reason to cut down the sugar - off all medications want to stay that way and not be reclassified as pre-diabetic or even diabetic - My additions are carbs and sugars. Need to be better on portion control and not consume large quantities in one sitting. Challeged by coworker and personal trainer to give up candy - so far as of today 25 days in and it is a struggle but taking one day at a time. Was also asked to give up the other sweets but just cannot give up everything at the same time - 1 addiction at a time perhaps.

Success is the reward for accomplishment. (Harry F. Banks)

The reasons I want to cut down on sugar is to make my life healthier. So far I have a love-hate relationship with sugar. I can go a relative long period of time without it and then it gets me. Although when I do it gives a pain attack rifling through my body. Oh bother still working on doing better.

I'm embarrassed to admit I eat so much junk. It's like there's a disconnect between what I know I should do and what I do. I know the sugar doesn't make me feel better, in fact I feel worse once I start kicking myself for eating it. So why do I keep doing it? I'm out of control. Im coming back to spark people for emotional support and encouragement as obviously I'm not motivating myself....

I've identified sugar and alcohol as my 2 big dietary self-sabotages. Alcohol is easy to cold-turkey. But sugar is such a habit, a socially approved sin. Sometimes I eat sweets before I even know I'm doing it. Sometimes I just try to fool myself that it's ok just this once.

I manage my overall eating much better when sugar is out of my system. The sugar cravings disappear, and I feel the motivation to eat better.

The holidays have been in play, and I have been sugaring each day. I'm ready to switch it up.

emoticon I want to feel great! I don't want to feel pulled toward a substance that causes me to feel awful, and yet want some more. And I definitely don't want to spend my money on diabetes meds that don't work so well and have their own set of side effects, to say nothing of blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds. emoticon emoticon

I don't want to develop diabetes (both parents have it) & losing weight would be a definite benefit. I feel I'm a ticking time bomb and I need to gain some control sooner rather than later.

Never give up!

I need to cut down on sugar because I am not getting any younger and entering menopause and I really feel the effects at that time of the month. I would like to learn about better substitutes for my cravings or rid them altogether. Diabetes also runs in my Mom's side of the family, so there are many reasons, but a good night sleep, better skin, more natural energy... the list could go on and on!!! emoticon

i need to cut out sugar for health reasons and because it controls me like a drug

i made index cards listing effects of sugar on me and my body. i also listed things to help me when i am tempted. this is like the beck diet solution suggests. i read them a couple of times a day. it helps to remind me why i am doing this.

I need to cut back on sugar to be healthy. It is so easy for my sweets to get out of control and then it creates such an unhealthy cycle for me where I eat more and more. If I can get control of sweets/sugar, I can get back on my weight loss journey and become healthier.

I want to cut back on sugar because it is not good or healthy for me or my liver. I have Hepatitis C and when I am able to reduce my weight by at least 20%, I will be able to have a third try at treatment to put it into remission.

You would think that this would be a very good motivator for cutting back on sweets, but when I reach a certain stress level at work I've already eaten the largest candy bar in the vending machine before I realize it's happened ... no joke!

Turning those chocolate candy cravings to fruit loving ones is a goal that I will be working on over the next 4 weeks!!

I want to cut back on sugar to be healthy. Diabetes runs in my dad's family and I'm trying my best to avoid joining the club.

I have discovered that my body responds quite well to a lower intake of sweets. I once lost 30 pounds by limiting my desserts to once a week on Sundays. The weight came back as soon as I increased my desserts and sweet snacks. I'll be quite alright if I can only get my will power and discipline back on track to eat sweets in moderation.

I need to cut back on sugar. All the sweet indulgences has made me gain 10 pounds in the past six months! I eat a sweet breakfast, have at least one cookie or baked good, eat sweet snack bars, drink sweet lattes, etc. All in one day.

I want to cut back to slim down and to feel better physically. Sugar makes me crash but if I don't have it I still feel tired. I also do not want diabetes. Many of my family members have this through obesity, and I want to break that cycle.

The reasons I want to give up sugar include the following reasons:

I am diabetic and a lot of sugar isn't helping my diabetes.

I would like to lose another 60 pounds at least.

Sugar contributes to dental cavities and other problems

Those all are good reasons to give up sugar but the willingness is lacking.

I thought that simply putting it out there might help my willingness and that somebody out there in cyber land is having the same problem and we could try to help each other.

My main reasons to cut back on sugar:

1). to set a better example for my 2 year old!

2) to take the money I spend on cake, cookies, ect and put that toward healthier foods

3) to lose weight

4) to have a "normal" relationship with the sweet treats and not go overboard each and every time I am at a family function.

I need to and want to work at my moderation. I want to be able to have a small slice of cake and be satisfied instead of going back for more.

(3) The third very important reason is when I binge on sugar after I start it, with that i get INSTENSE WHOLE BODY ITCHING and I have to take a 2 different type allergy pills with those i get heartburn. then i take heartburn med. too.

First to LDUNZIK--yogurt (probably light yogurt) and fruit are GOOD sweets, so go for it.

And to SHEDIDEAN--I totally support you. I am a T1D and you definitely do not want the struggle and management issues of being diabetic! Taking care now and eliminating one thing from those boredom sweets could be the best baby step you'll ever take.

You've both got my respect and affection for trying your best!

I have been on this challenge for a while now and I seem to be still having trouble. I rarely talk about anything in the group but I just read. I have had gastric surgery and I see myself gaining weight back. It is hard to not eat sweets but I am taking baby steps to cut it out all together. My main reason I want to cut down on sugar because Diabetes runs in my family and I really don't want to fall in that category like my family members. I took the quiz and I eat sugar out of stress and boredom (situational eating). Which is very true with so much going on in my life right now. I can use all the support I can get.

So, I have been trying to do the sugar free thing, too. I started September 22, I only did bad one day (Friday). I am still letting myself have yogurt and fresh fruit.

Stopped sugar binging yesterday! (Friday) Very Depressed! In bed, laying in the dark, more than sleeping! But, remembering to DO SOMETHING, so I let THE LORD GOD lead me out of the bed, and the bedroom and into the office and onto the computer! I got on Facebook with my friends and onto Spark, 1st collecting a few points on my Start page and re-added some old friends to my Sparkpage.

MAIN THING I DID WAS TAKE MY SparkPage offline, and put it back on-line! I WENT OFFLINE TO HIDE! emoticon A SparkFriend, COMPCHIC52, Jenny, emoticon actually noticed I was offline and called me on it! emoticon

I'm feeling much better tonight than I have all week! Planning on leaving the house tomorrow and getting a few things at the store. The getting out of the house outside will do me good! emoticon

Sounds like you're having a rough week, but don't beat yourself up about it. We all have them! emoticon

I've given you the first hug, now give yourself another one, you recognize there's an issue with sugar. Give yourself another hug, you've aware of the cycle. You mentioned all you want to do is sleep. If you've been bingeing on sugar, you're coming off the sugar rush, so that's natural. The next step is deciding how you are going to break the cycle. There are members I hear that went cold turkey, others use baby steps (eliminate some and use substitutions where possible). Regardless of which method you choose, give us shout when you need to. YOU ARE NOT ALONE on this journey! emoticon

I want to cut down on sugar mainly to jump start my weight loss. All that junk isn't good for me anyway! I also need to be careful with sugar since it isn't good for triglycerides in the blood. My counts are too high already. I need to get my weight at a healthy point so I can walk better and not wear at my knees anymore. There is also diabetes in my family which I know isn't caused from just sugar, but that ingredient isn't necessary for good anyone's health.

All RIGHT! You are in the best place to work on this addiction.

(1) The number 1, main reason I want to CUT OUT ALL SUGAR is because I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL WITH IT, JUST AS AN ALCOHOLIC, I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER ALCOHOL!

(2) The next reason, is because when I have sugar, I always binge on it!

(3) The third very important reason is when I binge on sugar after I start it,I have an INTENSE ANXIETY/PANIC ATTACK which leads to INSTENSE WHOLE BODY ITCHING and now I have to take a bezodiazdepine to stop and had to trade my sleeping pill for it!

Having binged several days this week, I tried to look for similarities. Logging in a binge wed, was enough to make me want to binge Thurs, which I did. I don't feel guilty, just sad that i probably won't lose this week..

Emotionally, I've been down and sleeping a lot and watching some movies. Not interested in much. Lost interest in things i used to like to do like exercise, clean house, do laundry, and watch wrestling!

MAINLY, JUST LOVE TO SLEEP THE DAYS AND NIGHT AWAY! emoticon
