I have started this challenge to aid in weightless as well as be a good example for my children. I think that the amount of sugars is what is making it hard for me to loose weight.

George815: Sorry you are having a rough time. I know its tough when you have diabetes. I don't have it, however my dad does so I think that puts me at risk as well. He didn't develop it until he was in his late 40's & I just turned 40 so I'm trying to be careful. I wish the best for you. I'm sure you can do it!

I've started the sweet tooth challenge because I want to work on a healthier diet. I believe my biggest thing is that I have a hard time passing up sweets if they are available. Like at the beginning of the week, I was at my parents and they have a big bowl of m&ms - I kept going for them. I want to get to where I can pass up the treats - like the donuts that were brought in to work this morning.

I have been recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. It has been difficult at times to control the sweet tooth. I love cherries and blueberries this time of year. Started my meds and was informed not to drink juices with almost any sugars. I followed this, but couldn't stay away from my love of cherries. My glucose levels went of the charts.Sometimes its hard to scale back foods in which you find comfort in.

Ok so tomorrow is my last day of week one. From looking back at my intake this week I definitely found some trend in my craving times. I did pretty good at work this week which is usually where I meet most of my temptations. I don't keep a lot of sweets in the house because I cannot resist them if they are there. At work there is usually at least one opportunity a day to eat donuts, pie or icecream. I did well and turned down all of them this week. I was pretty happy with that. It did make me cognisant of how bad i crave sugar with my lunch or when ever sugary snacks are around.
However where I didn't do so well is at home. Despite not having a lot of sugary snacks I find myself eating and eating to stop the craving. I end up eating a lot of bread (which is all sugar when broken down). I also... and I am not proud of this, was eating peanut butter by the spoonful with honey poured on top. My worst time is right when I get home from work and after dinner. After I overindulge I usually don't eat anything for the rest of the night but I totally blow my good habits throughout the day with my evening cravings.

I guess my goal for this week is to continue my at work success of turning down snacks and stick to just eating the lunch food I bring to work. But more importantly I would like to control the evening binges.
My strategies will be:
a) eat dinner as soon as i get home so I won't have that snack in between getting home and having supper
b) drink a lot of water while preparing supper so I am sure my hunger is actually hunger and not thirst. (a problem of mine)
c) buy my favourite tofu dessert with mixed berries to have for dessert after dinner so I will have a dessert but it will be portion controlled and low calorie.

I am not sure if this is allowed though... am I suppose to be cutting sugar out altogether? Or is it ok to just have it more in control? What does everyone think. Should I be aiming of complete sugar independence? or is a dessert everyday ok as long as it is healthy..ish.

Start slow but you CAN do it with the running. I'm not sure how tall you are but I'm at about 175 pounds and only 5'3". I trained for and ran a 5K in the spring and have been running 2-3 times per week since...along with Zumba, etc.

I have found intervals are the best. I usually walk for about 5 minutes then run as much as I can (at least a mile but you'll build up over time). After that I run 3 minutes and walk 2 for 3-5 sets and then finish with walking to cool down. The intervals help build up my endurance because I have increased my speed over time.

If I could just actually lose some weight, I'd be a running fool : )

I get the sugar urge at night when I have slowed down and want to relax. I can have a good day, food wise and then blow it all at night. Am enjoying more exercise and would love to start running.........pounding the pavement at a 100kgs, will take some working out. I don't understand the calorie count on sparkPeople. I usually eat 1200 c and find I am really splurging on the higher cals recommended......hense the no weight loss and current disappointment. but would sure like to beat the sugar craving.
goals; run twice a week, Zumba twice a week and Pilates twice a week. 💃Sounds fun
live sugar free, have chai tea on milk at night as my treat.

I am a little proud of myself. I went to Subway with my son this afternoon. I did get 3 of those raspberry white chocolate cheesecake cookies they have at the register. BUT I only ate 1! Then I closed the bag & I haven't touched the other 2 yet. (They're in the freezer.) So, a little "yay" moment.

I have always had a MAJOR sweet tooth. Two nights ago, while staying in my calorie limits, I ate a whole chocolate bar instead of a third of it as I intended to. Even though I was within my limits, I still felt like I had failed.

Today is day 1 of writing down all sugars I eat. Surprised myself, I really don't eat that much sugar, except when I get tired and that is every afternoon. I am working on self control. Wish me luck!

I detoxed from sugar and white flour 3 years ago and really didn't crave it, because I didn't eat it. Over the last year I started making a few exceptions here and there. Last fall, when things in my life got extremely stressful, I made even more exceptions. Now I crave something sweet throughout my day. I truly believe, at least with me, that it's a physical addiction and that I need to totally detox again.

I also know the "trick" is to have the replacement treats and snacks accessible so I don't reach for something I shouldn't. I haven't been "crazy" with sugar, sweets or calories in general but since my hysterectomy a couple years ago, my metabolism has completely crashed and it's almost impossible for me to lose weight. I have accepted that every bite that goes into my mouth makes a huge difference but now I just have to walk the walk.

Day one gone. I looked at a case full of donuts and I was successful in talking myself out of them. Yeh for me. Earlier in the day I looked at the "related articles" and looked at the "sugar free desserts and treats". There was a receipe for an ice cream made from frozen bananas. I knew I had a plan to have that for dessert so I used it as a good reason not to have the donut. I enjoyed the banana ice cream. So try it out for yourself. I added a dash of real vanilla. I think it added a little extra to it. So far life is good and that is the best we can look for. Everyone have a good weekend.

My day to weigh was today and I lost 3lbs this week. My moms birthday is next week and she wants to have carrot cake. Having any kind of cake in the house is really dangerous for me because I know I will eat the whole thing. I don't know how I'm going to handle it, my weight loss coach says I should buy individual cupcakes. Now where can I find carrot cake cupcakes?

I am new to SparkTeam so the experience as a whole is new to me. I have been using the food journal which is helping me to be honest with myself about what I eat. I love sweets so this is a step for me. So far I have been using tea (non sweetened) and fruit to substitute for other sweets that tempt me.

Today I was not able to resist a piece of chocolate...but at least I ate only half of it and shared it with a ffriend instead of eating the whole thing!

Hopefully as long as I stick to the goal of NO chocolate the cravings will just go away!

On week 1. I can see from keeping the craving journal that I'm going to have to find ways to distract myself later in the day. Something to keep my hands & mind otherwise occupied. If I get myself busy with something that doesn't go in my mouth maybe I have a chance to get it under control.

Yesterday was a hard day. I went to lunch with my mom had a healthy meal but blew it by ordering a carmel sundae with extra carmel. Damn it was good but bad for me. Then I went on a date with my boyfriend and he took me to have an ice cream of course i ordered a medium pineapple sundae with extra nuts and cream. I needed that date we have been going through a lot lately with his kids mom. I am going to try harder today.

I know I can do it.

day one of my challenge i had fruit but it was with a zabalione cream (a sweet italian cream sauce). i think the fruit with this was a decent substitute.
but today at work they opened up a cupcake cart right across from my store. and i did indulge.
i ate half the cupcake with lunch and half with dinner.
im not sure if this is completely caving, but i feel like im at least trying to be somewhat cautious. i still also was under my calorie range.

this is going to be harder then expected.

I may have to resort to that. My neighbor has children. In looking at my post, I overstated the amount of ice cream; should have said 3 quarts. Quite a difference.

I know the things that triggers my cravings. The problem is that I'm in full craving mode before I realize it & by that time it seems near impossible to stop. I really need to figure out how to head it off at the pass, so to speak. A lot of the triggers aren't going to go away, so I have to learn to recognize when the triggers are about to happen & have some sort of game plan to divert it. Sounds good in theory . . . but it hasn't happened yet or I wouldn't be involved in this challenge.

I want everything sweet, my yogurt, my coffee, my tea, my water, and my fruit. I don't add sugar to anything and avoid baked goods, beverages with more than 10 calories per serving and desserts. I still use artificial sweetners, crystal light, and sugar free products. I love all fruit in its natural state. I think I just need to learn that not all beverages need to be sweetened. I only drink water without adding anything to it if it comes in a bottle, otherwise in goes the crystal light. Tea gets artificial sweetener and so does coffee. I haven't dealt with my sweet tooth, I've just camoflauged it.

Well, I've set my goals, now what do I do with that 3 gals. of homemade vanilla ice cream in the freezer? My family won't eat it. It was my first attempt at making ice cream and it turned out really well, but it is full of no-no's like whip cream and whole milk but deadly for anyone with cholesterol.

Just starting Sparkpeople and this challenge. This is a great place to support my goals and for 4 days now it has been working for me when things have not been going well for me in a long time. I was able to lose 70 lbs 4 years ago using WW. I have now gained back half of that and nothing I have tried has got me back on track until now. I have over 100 lbs to go and controlling sugar and white flour is one of my biggest challenges. I am looking forward to the next 4 weeks and like the chance to experience it with you.

I don't have many pounds to lose, but it's ridiculous how long it's taking me to get it off. The problem is I lose a couple of pounds, then feel good about myself and reward myself with a sweet treat! It's an unending roller coaster and it's time to take control. I am usually not tempted by chips & stuff like that -- just sweets.

emoticon Hi Everyone,

I just joined this week. I have completed the survey and discovered I have a problem with sweets in specific situations.

Those times when I am with children is the worst! Especially when they offer me theirs and when we go out for ice cream etc. Also, on special occasion when sweets are offered that I can eat (I must avoid gluten due to being diagnosed Celiac) I really go all out. Since most sweets (cakes, cookies etc) are out, I focus on chocolate, hard candy, and ice cream. On special occasions, when I entertain, I try to made desserts that taste great but ones that I am not so fond of.

My main reason for taming my sweet tooth is to lose weight to improve my health. Sweets certainly are a challenge and I try to avoid having them in the house so I am not tempted.

I do intend to eat fruit which is my main 'sweet' most of the time.

Goal for this week: To limit my sweets to Main Meals in small proportions.

Hello, I just found this challenge today and I am excited to get going. I eat pretty healthy most of the time being vegitarian and all but sweets are my weakness. I find it so hard working in a hospital where people bring in donuts all the time. I am also starting a 30 day exercise challenge with some friends and I think if I combine this with that I will be on the right track. I am getting married in a month so heres hoping for a nice and healthy body for the wedding.
Good luck everyone.

I have been here for 3 days now and I think I am actually doing quite well. Ive also got holidays at the moment so Ive got time to plan every meal ahead of time and dont all of a sudden end up with low blood sugar. I am trying to follow a paleo diet and mainly eat meat and veggies. I find that a bit hard come snack time. But at least once I can afford the carbs I can start eating more fruits, nuts and seeds. I have found out that if I dont have one piece of candy or one piece of cake then Im alright, but if I have just one bite, then I cannot stop myself. It's all or nothing, so I'm going with nothing.
Good luck to all of you.

Well, I just found this challenge today. I am excited, this is one of my last big hurdles to losing the weight and keeping it off.
I know this much about myself. Anthing else but sweets I do great at. No matter how great the food taste, I can eat it in moderation. Just let someone bring candy, or cookies, or anything with sugar,my reserve just melts..
I live with someone who I think sabatoges my eating plan. i have told them over and over do not bring anything sweet into the house. They do it anyway.
I have gotten away from the sweets and other things that were not good for me so I hope I can do it again

Finished week 1. It was a bit eye opening!!! I knew that I ate a lot of sugar but didn't realize just how much. I had one pastry/chocolate bar/candy a day at least as well as several sugary drinks. Yikes!!!! I think cutting out this alone would cause my weight to drop very quickly. One major thing that I learned was that I had lemonade at least once each day. An easy way to cut that out is to just drink lemon water. So much better for me! And really not that different. Anyway, looking forward to week 2!

Well... fingers crossed! I can be really good about limiting my sweets intake, but some days it's like nothing else sounds good - so I make the poor choice of just indulging. I really need to break that habit and really establish some healthier practices.
This challenge showed up for me at a perfect time because my doctor just informed me that I have high cholesterol and said I should cut back on refined sugar to help improve it. So I'm doing this 1) for my health 2) to help shed a few pounds 3) to feel better and have more energy throughout the day and 4) to establish better eating practices now so that when my husband and I have kids, they can learn from out example.
My goal isn't to eliminate sugar, just to get better at controlling my intake of it and find good substitutions to help satisfy the cravings. Of course, I say that it would help if hubby would develop a sweet tooth and actually help me eat some of the sweet stuff that appears in the house... but so far, that's not working. O:) hehe Good luck everyone!

Hello everyone, I'm Jennifer.
Just joined the challenge today. I do have a bit of a sweet tooth. I am hoping to cut back/eliminate soda. I don't drink the full calorie stuff, but I drink way too much of the diet stuff. And I am pretty sure that is not good for me either.
And although I am not a diabetic, my maternal grandmother had adult onset that did not hit until she was in her 40s or 50s and she wound up having both legs amputated at the knee. I would like to take every precaution that does not happen to me.
