I just joined the challenge and I know my weaknesses. I get the whole "just one more won't hurt" mentality combined with the "I'll make it up tomorrow" rationalization. If it's not in the house? So what? There's a vending machine at work.

However, if I can kick my soft drink addiction (and yes, it was truly an addiction), I know I can relearn healthy habits to kick my sugar binging.

This is going to be an interesting challenge for me. I kicked the cravings once, but haven't been able to since. I am completely addicted to sweets. Growing up I was lucky to have a high metabolism, not having to worry about gaining weight.

I would eat sweets for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everywhere in between.

I joined this challenge today to improve my health.. I have been working at this goal for years, and have accomplished a lot… But the one thing I still want to do is get my waist size smaller, since it is always one dress size larger then my other measurements.. The older I get the more I worry about this… I have read many articles on extra weight around the middle could mean more heart attacks. Heart disease does run in my family….

I think I eat more because of stress, but I have trained myself to think Chocolate helps…LOL… Well I want to correct this silly way of thinking...

Sugary snacks/sneaks are what send me to the top, or over my calorie range every day. I look at those calories and think, "What a waste." It happens, especially if I let myself get hungry, so I know that's a trigger. Also, toffee--good golly, if I have anything toffee-related in the house, it's like I have to inhale it. So yeah, I've been diligently planning and tracking my meals for the last couple of weeks and see this is a definite problem area. I'm planning on using this challenge to help tackle it and get things a little more under control.

Hi all,

The 'TYST' Challenge is such as coincidence because I just recently realised I have to do something about my sweet cravings. I get these mostly after meals and this isn't good news for my weight loss. AND I just assigned one of my colleagues the task of poking me 'literally' when I am inching toward those sweets during community meals at my workplace.

This is my first day in the challenge and so far I have not had any sweets.

hi,

I have struggled with my weight forever and I am very very close to my goal. I want to cut back on sweets because I feel it will help me to reach my goal and stay there. I can usually stay away from them but when I do indulge I have a hard time stopping. I say I will have one serving and will measure it out and enjoy it but shortly thereafter I will want another serving and another. I know I cannot have peanut butter cups in my house because I will eat the whole bag and not even realize it until it is gone! I would like to learn to control my cravings without having to give up my favorite sweets completely. I am hoping this challenge will help/

This is my first day with the sweet tooth challenge. I used to be a "secret eater" when I was younger and managed to kick that when I started giving myself permission to eat it and I started getting much more fit. Over the past couple of years, I have regained 30 pounds and I find I'm eating more and more sugar. I don't know if it's frustration from not being as fit any more or, related, not having the same amount of time to devote to fitness (I got married a year ago), or if it's because I'm working much harder than I did in the past and I'm eating the sugar in the afternoon to try to get energized. I'm looking forward to working my way through this challenge because I thought that I had it under control and it came back.

Hi everyone emoticon Not easy but I did like what JOANNAIMREADY said, (1 day at a time) And this is true. I think of the long term of how much it will help with my weight lose, and how much better I will feel (no up's and downs from the sugar highs!) But the work is just day to day. And as for the fruits and veggies to help us not want to eat the sugar. Some stores do price matching, watch for the sales and the local farmers markets are always good. It's a little of work, but better for you and it will keep you busy that you wont have time to think about the sweets! Good luck and have a great day! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

This is my first post in this forum despite having signed up for this challenge when I joined SparPeople a month ago emoticon Anyways, I haven't had any MAJOR craving moments that are usually caused by stress, but my two kids are out of town for the summer so that's probably why! I love them and miss them a lot so don't think I hate my kids, ha ha! My other triggers can be boredom and the weekend. Also holidays as well. Summer is hot and it's the best time for fruits though so I gotta try and fight ice cream cravings by having the fruit around more. I still am working on having a little bit of dessert even when it is a splurge, and not destroying the dessert a long with my hard work.

I made it through the day with no binging and no sweets except for strawberries. I stuck to my diet using my meal replacements and having a salad for dinner. I hope I can keep this up...one day at a time.

I think my biggest challenge goal is to simply reduce the amount of sweets, specifically chocolate I eat. It does seem to help when I eat dark chocolate, I don't seem to eat as much, but I have to remember to go for the dark or skip it all together. Yesterday I bought dark chocolate m&M's, and today's cravings were stopped a whole lot quicker than normal.

I love sweet drinks...I'm starting to replace sugary drinks with artifically sweet and I know that's not the healthiest option. Today I made (decaf) iced tea and found I like it without adding sugar. Yay!! emoticon

Almost through week one, but no surprises for me on when I like sweet. I love them as a "bedtime snack" - usually chocolate, ice cream, or cookies. I also have this little quirck as my friends call it, that the last thing I have to taste when I eat has to be something sweet. So if I eat a meal, or just a salty snack, I have to counter it by eating something sweet afterwards. We also go to my parents cabin on a lake almost every weekend and I eat much more sweets (and just unhealthy in general) when we are there. We also spend almost all day outside instead of when we are home and are usually indoors in the a/c, so that may or may not be part of the reason there.

The biggest reason I want to start cutting out sugars are a) just for general health and b) to be a good example for my daughter - she has a sweet tooth as bad as mine!

Alright. Today is Day one for me. It is July second, summer is officially in full swing, and I would like to use this as an opportunity to kick my addiction to sweets and desserts for good!! I have always had the biggest sweet tooth ever, if I could go on and only eat desserts for the rest of my life without there being any negative consequences, I would do it. I eat a healthy, well rounded diet, but put any sweets around me, and I just lose all my self control and ruin all my hard work of that day. I'll keep going back for more helpings until I'm ready to explode! My cravings hit in the evening 90% of the time, and are the WORST at parties, when I have unlimited access to food. I'd like to start decreasing my sugar and sweet intake over the week, and take control of my cravings and not give into them when they hit!

Sugar is THE reason I go over my calorie count, so I'm here to put an end to it. It's day one, and I've already had a bounty bar. The only reason I can think that I had one, is because it's currently breaktime at my school.

I would like to break my undesirable habit
of munching on sugary foods. We just visited the local farmer's market
and got some great, fresh produce and high quality meat.
My whole family is excited about eating these delicious, healthy foods.
My kids even tried new veggies on their own.

Today was my food shopping day and I bought alot of fruits and managed to stay out of the bakery, WooHoo. I even omitted buying eggs and oil so I can't do any baking myself, no coffee cakes and fresh bread for me this week.

What brings you to this challenge?
- I want to kick this sugar habit and feel in control around sweets.
- I want to feel great about the healthy food choices I make.

How is your week going?
Most days this week I have eaten chocolate, however, I did log everything, so I have learned a thing or two about my cravings. Vanilla scents has seemed to help a bit (once I thought of it), although I never really gave it much of a chance. I will next week.

What have you learned about your sugar cravings so far?
I want sugar when...
- I am stressed
- I am busy
- I am upset
- out of habit (at night)
- sugar is in the house
- I feel guilty
- I am in places I usually eat sweets (Easter Show, birthdays etc)
- I think there won't be any left tomorrow
- so I don't have to think or feel (deep, I know)
- I have not prepared healthy food

What do you hope to accomplish at the end of 4 weeks?
- I'd like to lose some weight.
- To kick this evil sugar addiction.
- To feel more in control around sweets!

Well I did great all week with curbing my sweet tooth until today! I have a cake order and of course any good baker has to taste the goods to make sure they are delish...even if its the same recipe used thousands of times before! Oh, but one bite isn't enough...how about a huge honking piece of what was cut off the top? I have to make 15 cups of buttercream icing tonight...pray for me!

My hardest day with my tooth are during the week when the cubicle next to mine is full of sweet things and snack food. I use to be able to resist sweets till I started this job 6 years ago. Now the food calls to me. I did really good Mon and Tues then Wednesday came. I fell off the wagon a little then did better on Thursday. But TOday will be the real challenge. There are 2 boxes of donuts and they are Winchell's which I find really hard to resist. I have been snacking on apples as a replacement for sweets and it has helped alot but I don't want to eat my apple too early and starving for lunch. If I can make it through today without going near the sweet desk I will have had an amazing week. So I'm going with that. I almost had a complete week without sweets and lets keep it this way.

First day without sugar. Though, I've been really good since I began spark a week ago, but my cravings are coming in full swing now! I read somewhere that it takes 28 days to change your tastebuds (don't quote me!) so I'm going to stick to this really well for just 3 more short weeks and hopefully I'll kick this habit where the sun don't shine!

We don't usually keep ice cream in the house anymore and we're big ice cream fans. Now we have to leave the house to get ice cream so it can be a treat and not a habit. I did have enough will power to turn down a trip for gelato with my daughter last night. We popped in a movie and watched that together instead.

I'm definately a sugar addict. I kicked the habit last year but relapsed and now I am battling sugar again. I successfully gave up soda and have cut down on sugar intake during the day but my challenge is late night snacking and indulging too much on the weekly/biweekly desserts that make an appearance at work without thinking twice. emoticon

I too am a serious sugar addict. I'd love to quit cold-turkey, but talk about withdrawal!! Today is day 1 for me, and I was so proud of myself for my first victory. My boss sent me an email this afternoon and told me there were brownies in the break room. My first impulse was to jump up and run in there to make sure I got one before they were all gone, but I actually resisted the temptation and said "Thanks but no thanks." I REALLY REALLY wanted one, but I've made up my mind that this insanity MUST end now! I'm tired of not having anything to wear, I'm tired of being tired, I'm tired of being out of breath just by taking one flight of stairs, etc, etc. Today was my first step towards the new, slimmer, healthier me!

hello everyone!
i am a sugar addict to the 10th power!! chocolate #1, cake. homemade cookies. gourmet ice cream and recently chewing gum for the sugar only. i have tried many times to kick my sugar habit, but my chocolate cravings during an emotional time always pulls me back. with this challenge i want to be able to minimize my cravings and intake of sugar items. i have already stop buying anything with hfcs, and have seen a difference in my body reaction. i want to get my total sugar intake down very low to no sugar at all. emoticon

I am re-starting this challenge today. Yesterday I threw away half a scoop of ice cream even though I paid $5 for the scoop. That was a small victory for me. My blood sugar is out of control and I'm in need of serious help kicking the sugar habit. It really is an addiction and it is a serious challenge for me. It's time to fight back again and get my life back under control.

I joined this challenge because I have actually gained 25 pounds and I believe part of the weight is due to sweet tea. I drink tons of Arizona Southern Style Sweet Tea. There are times every now and then where I actually drink the whole jug in 2-3 days. Diabetes does run in my family so I seriously need to quit with the sweet tea, and I'm hoping this challenge can help me with that.
