If anyone is finding it hard to afford fresh fruits and veggies, try going on line and finding the best add prices, and find the stores that will price matching. ( some stores, like Wal Mart) will do it without an add. That masks it easier to get them and not hard to buy! emoticon emoticon And HAPPY Fruit Salad!

We're heading off to a quick family vacation this weekend, followed by a potluck on the Fourth. Arrgghhh. Planning makes a huge difference. I think I need to plan on keeping busy so I'm not wandering around near the food.

One thing that helps me when I start wandering into the kitchen and looking in the pantry is the Cascade Ice brand of drinks. They are zero calories and there are certain flavors that I really like, and they satisfy my sweet tooth. I put a lot of ice in my glass, and can make one last for hours.

As I'm typing this I'm thinking - Hey I should pack several of them for my upcoming weekend. (duh emoticon )

Thanks for having this group.

The past is history, the future a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.

Last night my husband bought fat free icecream. I ate my portion and then my grandkids didn't like it...I can understand why - so I ate theirs too! I would never bye it and have it available. Anyway it's done and moving on. So I discovered something sweet and healthy that I really liked. I froze some bing cherries because I had to many. I thought I would make a pie but I took one out last night and ate it frozen. It was very yummy and quenched my sweet tooth! emoticon

I did okay through the weekend not wanting too many sweets and being able to catch myself before I ate them or before I ate too many of them. Today and this week will be the real challenge with the sweet corner one desk away from me and I have to walk by it all day to get my job done. So I'm going to be strong and keep telling myself I don't need them. I'm taking grapes with me and going to stop and by apples. The apples seem to help in the afternoon to keep me from stopping at the treat desk. Hope that everyone has a good week and does well with their sweet tooth challenge. emoticon

I do okay most of the time, but I love to bake and make desserts for my family...and I always crave sweets after a meal! I think this is just more of a bad habit than anything...but hopefully I can get some ideas to try. I am concerned about diabetes, as my mom has type 2 diabetes and I just want to make sure I do what I can to prevent it. I would like to begin substituting other foods or just leave dessert out altogether most nights.

If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got!

Believe, and you can achieve!

With my husband working in WI and me and the kids in co sugar is my comfort food. I'd like to use summer to lose weight, but feel like I'm ping ping balling around and eating a bunch of junk. I'd also like to set a healthier example for my kids. Good luck all!

Thanks for the encouragement.
Today I did good.
Till I got totally worn out and feeling weak.
But did get 13000 steps in and two hours in the pool.
Did get couple of hours of pushing the weed eater on wheels while my much older husband rode the lawn mower and my goodness the yard looks better. My brother also rode the tractor with the shedder and mowed the pasture.
It is so hot here right about 100 and is to be up to 110 this next week.
So I only worked till noon. Pool 2 to 4 and fed my horse at 6.
That is when I realized I was way over tired. Checked my glucose and 119 is just fine for an hour after a banana so that was not it.
Now I feel better after resting and watching TV for several hours.
I managed to eat salad for lunch and fruit and chicken.
Supper was baked potato and chicken and one serving of M & M's. Needed my chocolate.
Now for a snack. Nature Valley bar here I come.

Yes I drank plenty of water today.

My goals for this week are

1. To satisfy my sweet tooth with protein bars or hot cocoa

2. If I absolutely feel the need to have something sweet at a party or restaurant I will share it with my husband or daughter.

3. To keep sweets out of the house

Riverjones, when you go to the BBQ, look over the desserts and choose the one that looks the best, most interesting to you - and have one only. If you have to, fill any remaining NEED with watermelon! I was so disappointed that this is the second week for me and I've had only 2 junk food free days for 2 weeks in a row - WAIT - I 've had a total of 4 junk food free days????

I am really looking forward to not having to deal with extra hormones this coming week. This past week with my cycle has been extra hard. I still did pretty good considering.

I have found that paying for gasoline at the pump is a lot easier on me than going in and seeing those doughnuts.

Just joined this challenge. I am good with sweets as long as no one else is eating them around me. if I take one small bite then I want more and more and more. I have to learn to control them rather them control me. That is pathetic to think that a piece of chocolate has power over me. emoticon

Where to start, sweets are my worst nightmare! Surprisingly however, I have been doing great! This website has been helping so much, also I have been tracking my weight. Every two weeks I weigh in and see how much weight I have lost. But here is the kicker, I let someone else see my progress as well! What is more challenging then to have someone see your weight and be proud with you about loosing it. I am ready to kick sweets of my radar all together! I have already been substituting my sweet cravings with strawberries or plums. I am open to any advice and am here if anyone needs some. Have a fantastic everyone!

Well I did not get to the gym but I did have to go help my Mother do some sorting (she lives next door) Then get supper for us. The water the plants and that involves walking around two houses and putting the water on soaker hoses and then turning it back off and in between cleaning the pool and hand watering a few spots and a lot of hanging plants. So I got really tired and actually painful. I have lower back problems (actually arthritis all over and a lot of problems.) Had to quit the strength training as was injuring my joints further. I was in so much pain.
So at the gym now I do bike and elliptical.
Did make my 10,000 steps today.

Day 2...

Went well BUT could have been totaled with just one choice! I wanted one of those shakes from a fast food place but instead of getting one I went home and had a homemade smoothie loaded with fruit! It was really good but thinking back on it was when i realized I could have destroyed everything I worked for with one choice!!! I am proud!!!

So far today is good with only one slip up when a friend came back from Hawaii with Chocolate covered macadamia nuts. They did not blow my calorie count for the day as I had fruit and sandwich for lunch with a piece for desert.

Today was a good day for me. Well done everyone on winning so many of your battles. It's important to focus on the keeping the ratio of wins to losses right. That way, even when there are losses overall you're still a winner. :) Always look on the bright side of life!! Keep it up guys.

Training Tip: Get dressed for it and get out the door. That there is the toughest part of any training session. Yet how easy is it to do those few simple tasks?

I am trying to keep in mind the ten pounds I have lost so far whenever I want a sugary treat. It has been helping.

This week has been extra hard. Like some of you mentioned, I have been allowing a treat a day instead of bingeing which is still an improvement for me.

Every day I have to sit by a vending machine for an hour. I am proud to say that I have not touched it in three weeks!

I felt so good today after someone made chocolate cupcakes (with chocolate icing) and I stopped myself after eating just one. My biggest problem is not saying no to more, there was one more cupcake left at the end but I felt so accomplished that I only had one.

Sometimes its not about giving up sweets, its about having the strength to say no to more food =). Although no sugar is the best (because sugar is addictive, processed, added into our diets) we have lived so many years with it in our lives that I think it may hurt more to go completely cold turkey right now.

Good luck will power!!

To add to that post below... I gave up smoking as I was separating from my ex. Times were extremely tough then. Whenever 'he' pushed me into the mood where I felt I needed to smoke, I used to tell myself that there was no way in hell I was going to let 'him' do that to me. I am stronger than 'he' would have me believe. I will not crumble. ~Perhaps if a trigger like that is taking you down on your food cravings you might be able to take something from this idea to help you. Best of luck everyone.

I just read the page of stories below mine here now and have to say congratulations to you all who are fighting so hard on this one. Sometimes it's easier to make excuses as to why to give in that why to stay away from those treats.
*I deserve one, I've had a crap morning*.
*I went for a walk/run/swim etc earlier... I've earned one*

I think listing all these excuses we use before we get to use them at a time when we're relaxed and not craving treats, and then undoing each excuse... for example... *I deserve one, I've had a crap morning* turns into... *I can't have one... I've had a crap morning, I don't want to have a crap guilt riddled evening now too because I gave into this little sugary slimey tiny little thing that dares to think it can control ME!! I'd much rather continue on the road to slimmer me, thank you very much Mr Treat!!*

I imagine that by undoing each of the excuses you use and taking the power out of them might help when the cravings kick in.

My second plan/idea is... have substitute ideas on the ready.
Milk shakes made of bananas and fruit, esp berries. SOOO tasty.
Frozen berries, make such flavoursome iced treats. Better than sweeties.
Hot chocolate drinks... many are counted as being 40 calories/cup. A true treat that can be sipped and made to last. Make it extra hot so that you CAN'T gulp it down in one slug!!!

Has anyone else got any ideas?

when I'm only less then 24 hrs into my SP journey it is too soon to say that things are going well ,but "Things are going well"

If I can keep this mindset, I'll be doing well - who can help me stay positive & focused?
Fellow SP challenge participants? encouraging words?

I know exactly what you are going through! The day I signed up for this challenge, my daughter made chocolate chip cookies! Like you, refraining from all sugar and junk food is unrealistic. To help me "reduce" my sugar/junk food intake I am taking baby steps. I allow one "treat" per day. Instead of eating 4-6 cookies at one time, I allow 1 cookie after I eat lunch (that way I have plenty of time to work off the extra calories emoticon ) I know that if I try to eliminate all "treats" I will totally binge! In addition, I am taking the advice of this challenge and grab fruit when I want sweets any other time of the day. It really is a struggle for me, but doing "baby steps" is helping.

Another suggestion someone told me was to wrap the cookies individually, put them in the freezer, then when you do want one take it out, put it in the microwave for a bit before eating. It will give you time to think if you really want that cookie, and if you are willing to work that hard to get it...and if you do, it will be worth the wait emoticon

Good Luck!

Just when I think I'm doing ok and am headed for a "junk food free day" - BAM - my partner makes cookies and I'm off on a binge. While I may not actually eat more junk food, my eating feels out of control. I sometimes think that that I have to stay away fro sugar and junk entirely; then I realize how unrealistic that is for me. Or is it? Is it my fear of letting go of my "crutch?"
