Yesterday was 'running day' at Lidl. I have a pair of Lidl trainers and I run in them, they are fine. I wouldn't run over about 6 miles in them but they are fine for the jogging on the treadmill that I do. They are 15 or so and well worth the money. My Aldi trainers go to the gym every couple of days and they were not bad for running in either.

Like you, I don't have much money so need to watch what I am spending on things. I am in a low paid job at the moment.
I have been known to try trainers on in the shop and then buy online. Naughty, I know but when your budget is small, you need to get around the high prices.
I have also JJB Sports or a Sports Direct for trainers. Good shoes at knock down prices.

Happy running

Blessed are the cracked for it is those who let in the light.

I picked up some decently priced Asics years ago on Amazon. And I have to agree with Pat - you don't need all that high tech when you're first starting out, but you do need to know not to overdo it. I used the same trainers when they were a couple of yrs old and beat up from aerobics etc when I first started out and I was fine. I got a proper fitted pair when I was doing 10-15 miles a week and had changed body shape and learned a lot about technique - running might not even be for you, and the beauty is how cheap it is compared to cycling for example, so i wouldn't (and didn't!) fork out too soon.

Beginners classes are great. Sweatshop does a free 5k in 10 wks, as do a lot of running clubs. I learned a lot about technique, another advantage being they let you know which muscles will hurt when you're first starting, so you're not too shocked! You can aswap kit tips there, and I also dragged a runner friend to sports direct and got tips for things like waterproofs, blister preventing socks etc, which are important too and needn't be pricey.

Enjoy the adventure - I found running one of the most natural things, and it feels like what humans are built for. Hope you like it, too!

Consider your running shoes an investment in your health. I'd suggest you get a professional fitting for your first pair (Sweatshop are excellent for this service), thereafterwards you can buy the same shoes online for a fraction of the price.

On no account go to Sports Direct or DW Sports, because they've no idea what they're doing (sorry if that offends but it's my truth), and I've wasted money by buying their recommended runners.

Olivia, I've never seen Asics at TKMaxx - if I did I'd buy them, because they are my go-to running shoes.

I have to disagree with that. I went for my first ever run in just regular trainers and literally couldn't walk the next day. I had to call in sick to work.

TK Maxx are amazing for running shoes. At a specialist running store I got some Asics for 120, then a few months later saw the same Asics at TK for 39. I bought them!

You do not need expensive running shoes till you run a lot consistently.

Just make certain you have a really good fit and while you are running you can save for a better fitting pair. If you want to run you need to start. not wait at the gate.

Another vote for TK Maxx (if there's one near you). Real bargains plus you can try them on emoticon

Does anyone have any suggestions where to buy a pair of good running shoes cheaply, and which ones to buy? Need a pair to do me until I can save up for a good professionally fitted pair.
