Honestly that's what I do anyway - I never trust the "calories burned" (not even on the equipment I use) because it's so individual. I just make sure I'm getting enough minutes of movement to keep my body happy and the weight going in the right direction. :)

I find entering all the different exercise individually hugely time consuming. Im going to start quick tracking the minutes. Also I find that the calories burned for some simple cardio seem bizarre. 200 calories burned for 20 minutes of walking sounds pretty outrageous to me. So... Im going to stop counting to see how many calories I have burned...but Im going to track minutes just to see how much I am doing.

carpe diem....Sieze the day !

Hmmm, that's a good question. You can do a search and see if the DVD is listed (I think some are). If it's basic circuit training, you can track it that way. Or take the time to break down the video into how many reps of certain exercises they're doing, and then add those exercises to your favorites - a little work to start out, but would be fairly easy to track once you set it up. That might be something to poke around on the fitness and exercise message boards and see if anyone else has addressed that:

Here's another question: I have been tracking my walking/cardio with no problem. I want to start tracking my strength work, but I never do specific reps. I always use 10-30 minute exercise videos for my strength training, including working out w my kinect, yoga and pilates. How the heck do I track that stuff? :)

Thank you! I'll try those stretches once I'm warmed up. I see my doctor once a month and she said yes to walking.

There are a lot of different variables that could be affecting things, like your shoes, the surface you're walking on, etc. I'd recommend after about 5-10 minutes of your walk, once you've gotten your muscles warmed up a bit, stopping to stretch. For your calves, a good stretch is to stand on a curb with your heels hanging off, and then lowering your heels to stretch out your calves (hang on to a street sign or something for balance). Stretching out your hips is a little harder - one I like to do is touching my toes with my feet crossed, crossing the right in front of the left, and then doing it again with the left in front of the right. You can find other examples in the exercise demo videos here on Sparkpeople:

Hope that helps! If it doesn't, or the pain worsens, I'd go see your doc (honestly, seeing your doctor as a precaution when starting any exercise program isn't a bad idea anyway).

When I go for my walks my right calf is cramping up and my left hip hurts and feelslike it's going to come out of it's socket. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You can find a lot of information if you go to your "start" page - on the bar across the top there is a tab on the right-hand side that says "How to Use This Site". There you will find a Getting Started Guide, site tour videos and a FAQ with answers to many of your questions.

But please, don't be shy! Feel free to ask for help!
