We are striving for balance not perfection. God in his graciousness allows us to struggle to build strength. If you help a baby bird out of it's shell it will die. If you let it struggle it will gain strength and thrive.

I am sure your relationship is fine. Do you still have the audio tapes to the program? You might try listening to them in the car. The other strategy might be to tape a note to the fridge. "Are you really hungry? Open the Bible instead". Think I will do that myself.

That's the exact plan that worked for me once. But this time it seems different and I'm struggling to tell if it's me 'sinning' over and over, if my body and needs have changed or if my relationship with God isn't what its suppose to be.

Never mistake failure as final

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.

I am probably going to have to start tracking food too. Ever do the Weigh Down Workshop? Her theory was that God did not make junk and that we just needed to halve the quantity to start loosing again. If we ate food that was low in nutrition we would end up hungry. If we ate food high in nutrition we would be sated. It was a bit simplistic, but did work for awhile for me. I have to change my plans and activities frequently to stay successful.

I'm having a small struggle. In the past I've lost weight without counting calories and with counting calories. I once believed that using 'diet' rules, counting calories and keeping a constant watch on everything you eat and expel in exercise was putting you trust more in man-made-structured-plans than God's plan. Lately it doesn't seem to matter what I do; exercise, count calories, not count calories; my body seems to be simply refusing to give up the fat. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions or motivation tips? I feel like I'm in quick sand and the harder I try the deeper I sink.

When I took GD to hippotherapy, I got online and looked for horse stables in my area. If you can find a stable that boards, they are usually insured for strangers to put in a little volunteer time and grateful for the extra hands. Good luck.

I am trying to find a horse barn I can visit. I can't just knock on the door and say, "Can I sit in your barn for awhile--daily."

there is one down the road from me. I often see the horses in the pasture.

They apparently don't advertise boarding or anything. But there are horse trailers in the driveway.

Trying to "PUT BY" 4 snack size baggies of fruits or veggies from our garden/or market every evening - Than means fixing them for the freezer - or making sugarless fruit preserves or just canning some fruit - this is a good way to stay with pure food, not junk and getting ready for winter. If I pop any in my mouth, they have to come from the first baggie i made so it is premeasured and accounted for! Works for me!

I took GD to hippo therapy when she was young and the autism was still very noticeable. She was obsessed with horses. One day they were short their side walkers, so I told them about my 10 year 4-H horse history and they put me to work on the spot. It was great exercise. My job was spotting her leg so she did not fall off. Someone else led the 20 year old pony. You have to hustle in deep dirt to keep up with 20 year old ponies. Such good memories. I think I am going to walk with the neighbors in the evening one day a week. That should help control the binging.

I love the way a horse barn smells. Have to visit my neighbors now if I want to smell like a horse. They are so soothing. When, I was a child, we kept our horses about 15 miles from our house, so when I was upset at home, I would go to the tack room and sit in there smelling the horse smell on the saddle blankets till I calmed. Guess that is what I have been missing as an adult. No tack room to hide in when I need to self soothe.

Another reason to love summer vacation as a teacher: Time to brush up on good habits like slowing down. I am blessed to have two horses and a dog so sometimes I go out to the barn when I'm craving a snack...the only thing out there is grain & hay. Or, I go for a short walk with my spaniel.

That's the way I felt teaching too. I never got to go to a lunchroom to eat. I wolfed "whatever" down at my desk while talking to parents on the phone or writing IFSPs (IEPs), or typing up an evaluation report or scoring an assessment or...... I am so happy to be retired.

Tonight instead of snacking I filled out another set of VA forms for Hubby's evaluation.

Pretty plates and glasses are off the spectrum for me. I barely get lunch foods thrown into my school bag. Sometimes I put open containers there and be sure to keep the bag upright. I put in cans of soup or a whole mango or a whole cantaloupe... Bring pretty dishes with these? I don't think I can manage that. emoticon

Becky I checked your sparkpage and your wedding photo is gorgeous! Don't be hard on yourself. Are you using the nutrition tracker? I love calculating what I ate and even the minerals and vitamins. That has taught me quite a bit about nutrition. Chris

Recently I started making little bowels of fruit to snack on for desert instead of the high calorie and high fat stuff I usually eat. I like fruit, but I tend not to eat it because fresh fruit goes bad so fast. I finally said to myself canned fruit may not be as good as fresh fruit, but it's better than ice cream and cookies. So I got little 1/2cp bowels and divide a couple cans of fruit into them and that is my desert after each meal. That means its healthy enough I can even have desert after breakfast and its a desert than counts as fruit/vegetable for the day. It's like getting two birds with one stone.

I also have learned to think ahead, but I mean think way ahead. I start to think of all the tempting evening things that tend to get to me while I'm in the grocery store and I force myself to make a better choice then and there while I have the will power or just leave them in the store. On the rare occasions that I do allow something, I get things that are pre-packaged. Like instead of getting a container of ice cream, I get ice cream bars or ice cream sandwiches, that are already in a 'serving size.' That way I know I can't cheat - I'm good at cheating myself.

Never mistake failure as final

Deciding what you want your life to be like is not hard. Deciding what you are willing to do and give up to get it, is the hard part.

I will do what I need to do in order to do what I want to do.

What you do and say is a reflection of who you are, so decide who you want to be and do it.

We had a teacher that brought a pretty place mat, crystal and china to work every day to eat her lunch on. She said it made her happy. She also had a beautiful figure. Very different from me cramming more granola bars in to keep my energy up. I need to remember to sit down to eat and pay attention to what I am eating. Thanks for the reminder.

Non-caloric drink in pretty glass or cup
If I think I am hungry but no reason to be, I get out stemmed glass, fill with ice, choose a diet pop, tea, crystal lite or just water and ceremoniously pour it over the ice then go in other room and sip it while I talk with husband, read, stitch or do paperwork.

The pretty container is essential!!!

Winter time it is Hot tea or hot diet cocoa or hot Cambric tea with low cal creamer instead of the real thing. Now you can tell i have not escaped the artificial sweetener monster but i reserve it for my crisis, emergency drinks and rationalize it quite well!!

Love the idea of magnetic activities. I just recently have been taking knitting classes and have several projects going. It has really helped. I also save my exercise on my bike for nights. I watch a netflix dvd (currently British television series) and do strength training then. After that I make myself start getting ready for bed and reading some new books that are interesting has helped. If I have a food around that I'm having trouble staying away from, I stop buying it for awhile. Yesterday I did allow myself some small splurges for the first time in a while. That helped me not feel sorry for myself. I also visited my neighbor and toured her remodel project. Keeping busy with many activities really helps and so does the sun.
