I hate wearing sleeves to a race. If I'm running a 10K or longer, I'm sleeveless if it's over 40. Sleeves bind my arms too much. Arm warmers (or socks) are the perfect solution.

Wow, I feel out of the loop! I didn't know you could wear tube socks on your arms. Never thought of that to keep them warm, guess I need to run more races!

I have arm and leg warmers left over from my cycling days...a great alternative to long sleeves when the weather starts cool and warms up...

I wore tube socks for my half marathon this past March. I didn't cut openings for my hands; I wore the socks as sort of "evening-length mittens" (for those of you familiar with evening gloves). They were GREAT! I ended up wearing them up to mile nine; didn't think I'd need them that long. Anyway, I tossed them on the course (and of course, the race officials anticipate that people will do this). So yes, tube socks will definitely work.

Mary,

I saw lots of runners use tube socks during my 1/2 marathon last weekend and when they warmed up, they just through them off when they got hot.

I've worn homemade arm warmers. Just cut the toes out, and cut a hole for your thumb. They are cheap and easy. I've also got a few pairs of real arm warmers, but the homemade ones are just as effective.

Mary, I bought a cheap pair of leg warmers from the dollar store before a race last year and they worked GREAT. They actually cost $3 - but you get the point. Buy tube socks or something similar that you won't care if you throw away.

Mary,

I love, love, love my arm warmers! I bought them in Chicago last fall before I ran the marathon and it was 29 degrees and all's I had was a short sleeve shirt. When I warm up, I just slip them off and slip them in my waist band or pocket.

HAPPY SPARK RUNNING!
Nancy

Okay, I ordered some arm warmers - but they will arrive after my race this weekend, I am considering wearing "homemade" arm warmers made from tube socks. Has anyone worn these for a race. It will be cool at the start, but I do get warm quickly. Or do I just go with a short-sleeve shirt and forget about the arms.
