Here goes: What I Love

01. Getting into a bed with fresh sheets that have been sprayed with lavender
02. Sitting on the doorstep with a mug of hot coffee in the quiet of the morning
03. Making cards
04. Buying books
05. Going to the theatre
06. An unhurried hike with a picnic - being adventurous
07. Walking on the coast path
08. Being in the beach chalet on the dunes - on holiday
09. Visiting art galleries
10. Having a craft project - like knitting a jumper, or sewing something
11. Dancing with gay abandon to rock music
12. Theatre in the park (in the summer)
13. Speaking to my grandson on a video call
14. Being with like-minded people
15. New earrings
16. Sitting in the sunshine, quietly
17. Being on the top of a hill
18. Walking in woodland
19. Playing recorder in parades
20. Knowing I've cleaned the house!

It's really hard to think of things that perhaps I used to like doing, but which I don't do any more..................

So things I haven't done for 6 months or more:
#20 - knowing I've cleaned the house - I rarely complete the whole task
#19 - playing recorder in the parades - this one just doesn't happen any more, but I do play recorder with a group now, just not in parades (because I used to parade in St Ives, but I live in a different town now)
#12 - theatre in the park - it starts again in May!
#11 - dancing with gay abandon
#08 - being at the beach chalet - I've booked up a week in September
#07 - walking on the coast path
#06 - hike with a picnic - adventurous

I think my one thing was booking the holiday in the beach chalet in September - I'm really looking forward to it.

This was tough. Easy to come up with a few -- hard to come up with 20 DIFFERENT things. So many of mine are variations on a "creativity" theme...lol. Or being out in nature.

What I love.....(have loved in the past)

1. Being outside and working with plants.
2. Just being outside walking around looking at things.
3. Creating crafty art.
4. Moving with a group - dancing, walking together, even Y classes.
5. Painting, remodeling, working with color.
6. Reading a good book (usually a page turning mystery).
7. Being with pets - laughing at their antics.
8. Cooking.
9. Shopping sometimes -- like at a thrift store where you never know what treasure you might find to renovate or use in a new way.
10. Sudoku
11. Crosswords
12. Being with my sons.
13. Tending my orchids.
14. Being in the water -- moving through the water.
15. Listening to music.
16. Learning something new.
17. Starting seedlings, re-potting plants -- arranging them on the deck.
18. Changing things up -- moving furniture around, etc.
19. Working on a big project like cleaning the garage or painting the deck -- feeling good about accomplishment.
20. Sometimes ---- trying on clothes -- like when my DH's niece brings a big trash bag full of her culls. She's a big shopper, and I have fun trying on what she's weeding out before it's donated. So many of the outfits I try on I'm like a kid playing dress-up...would not actually wear (too young, too revealing etc) but fun to try on just the same.
21. Watching a good series on Netflix or from library.

Today was a cold, rainy day. Nothing outdoors, but did enjoy #21 on my list. DH and I watched an episode together after lunch of a series were loving. I had read high reviews of it but finally got around to ordering it. Borgen -- Danish language. Totally enjoyable. We're on the 3rd and final season now. Very well done production.

Sue, emoticon . Sounds like you have a lot to deal with, BUT you are dealing with it. I hear you - now you need to carve out some time for you. Easier said than done; right?

"Linda asks us to sit down and make a list of at least TWENTY things that we love to do.

Then notice how many of them you haven't done in the past six months.

Then choose one thing.............. and plan some action! Read Linda's blog to give you some ideas. She always chooses music and her piano.......... what is your default activity to create some joy? "

My default activity is reading and art. I also enjoy watching my GD dance, love movies, and so forth. But my problem is putting myself first and taking that time. Seems like that's what I 'need' to do - make a lot more ME time.

Day 33 - CREATE SOME JOY

I was going along fine this morning until I got a phone call from the VA Clinic regarding an ear wax treatment for my dad. This ongoing issue is extremely frustrating for us and I was not happy with the results of the phone call, but then I read today's title. I am NOT going to let this set-back burst my bubble today and steal my joy!

Linda's point hit home for me - "There's no one to give me attention or kindness when I need it. People around me are concerned about their own lives and don't even notice my sad mood or my frustration."

Isn't that the way of the world now days? I seem to be surrounded by a world of people who can't step outside their own box. I could tell myself they don't know how to, but more likely I think people don't even realize today that they need to think of others more.

This has been an increasingly heavy issue for me in recent months, but I am learning how to not let it steel my joy and take care of my own needs. Here is my list from my last post in which I reprioritized a few things :

What I Love -

1. Spiritual Devotions
2. Gratitude Lists
3. Feeling soft carpet under my bare feet.
4. Relaxing music.
5. Browsing through a bookstore.
6. Sipping wine while I sit outside on a restaurant deck and people watch.
7. Spending time with my DD.
8. Traveling/Sightseeing.
9. Smelling soaps, creams, candles.
10. Mother Nature's wonders, vistas, views; Walking along nature trails.
11. A relaxing shower when I feel dirty and/or sweaty.
12. Feeling soft things like our dog or cat or sweaters, or blankets.
13. Sitting around a campfire.
14. Looking at the big lake.
15. Reading.
16. Being creative with scrapbooking, yarn, or other crafts.
17. Working in my flower gardens.
18. An afternoon nap.
19. Something Self-indulgent like a Spa Day.
20. Spending time doing an activity with a good friend.
21. Roaming through an Art Gallery or some other Display.
22. Going to the movies.
23. Watching the sun set.
24. Visiting a Botanical Garden; Sitting in a beautiful garden.
25. Attending Art & Craft Shows.
26. W/E mini-vacations.
27. Yoga

Today I am doing something that I like once I get going, and I like because I think it is a worthy activity, but that I actually have to push myself to get started doing = I am going to work in my garden, plant some salad, get the other vegetable beds ready to plant. I am late starting, and have decided to plant salad because I love fresh salad through the summer, and beans because they are easy to grow, and carrots, potatoes and beets, also because they are easy to grow and I eat a lot of them. I often think I should plant tomatoes and squash and cucumbers and squash and sumflowers, and some years I do, but this year, with my late start, I am going to stick to my mostly root vegetables plan.

DAY #33 CREATE SOME JOY - ROUND 2

"I could really use some nurturing or a bit of encouragement. But thereís no one to give me attention or kindness when I need it. People around me are concerned about their own lives and donít even notice my sad mood or my frustration. As a result, Iíve learned that I have to take care of my own needs for nurturing."

I have felt this way plenty of times - all alone and no one loves me! Poor me! I call this my "Pity-Party" and I don't like it when I'm feeling low like this. So this is what I do to nurture myself:

What I Love:

1. Sitting in a beautiful garden.
2. Walking along nature trails.
10. Mother Nature's wonders, vistas, views.
24. Visiting a Botanical Garden.
25. Attending Art & Craft Shows.
26. W/E mini-vacations.
27. Yoga
28. Gratitude Lists

I added a couple more ideas this round emoticon

I don't have those "Pity Party" days very often anymore and when I do I recognize them for what they are - a need for nurturing. I call them my Mental Health days.

Today I am going to help clean-up a community garden with my Garden Club group. I LOVE TO PLAY IN THE DIRT!

4 yoga
5 painting toenails
6 Spark blogs
7 a bunch of flowers
8 knitting
9 a magazine

12 work-free days
13 craft work
14 music
15 running
16 doing a puzzle

Day 33 Create some joy

I could really use some nurturing or a bit of encouragement. But thereís no one to give me attention or kindness when I need it. People around me are concerned about their own lives and donít even notice my sad mood or my frustration. As a result, Iíve learned that I have to take care of my own needs for nurturing.

Day 33 - Create Some Joy

The self introspection that comes from repeatedly going over Linda's lessons in the first 100 Days (ie Look for Rainbows) has over time made me so much more aware of what brings me peace and joy. Thanks to Linda as well as many of your great suggestions now and in previous studies, I have compiled a huge scribbled, jumbled list of things and I keep adding. I need to rewrite it all and put it into my journal. Then I need to do more of them!

Yesterday, as I drove through town just after sunrise I was thinking about this lesson. I smiled and felt joy as I noticed a field of sunflowers, the layers of fog and thought of the fun music I had planned for water aerobics. Making new playlists of fun, fast, happy music for water aerobics gives me joy. Making soothing, peaceful, relaxing music play lists for yoga does too. Making Classical playlists for DH and I makes us both happy.

Working on the exercise and yoga poses for both classes gives me joy. Hearing my Garmin go off with its fireworks of colors when I have reached my step goal brings me joy. Some other things, boogie boarding in the ocean or just being there hearing the waves, smelling the salt air and relaxing with a picnic lunch. Telling goofy jokes and laughing myself silly. Looking at my vision board and realizing how much I have done on that board and knowing there is still plenty that I would like to do.~ such as river rafting and more traveling.

Gill, thanks for the link! Love the look of those zentangles. I've done the coloring before and did find it relaxing. When I was taking my Mom for radiation treatments the clinic had several of the coloring books in the waiting room along with the colored markers. During the two weeks of her treatments I completed one of the pictures. I noticed several others must have been adding to their page bit by bit as well.

Oh, yes, thank you for reminding me about museums and art galleries!

Today I was looking at colouring magazines and remembered zentangles. Colouring is supposed to be good therapy.

Day #33 Creating Some Joy

"Once I a while, I feel grouchy. I don't have any big reason for this." I could really use some nurturing or a bit of encouragement. But thereís no one to give me attention or kindness when I need it. People around me are concerned about their own lives and donít even notice my sad mood or my frustration. As a result, Iíve learned that I have to take care of my own needs for nurturing.

What I Love:

1. Sitting in a beautiful garden.
2. Walking along nature trails.
10. Mother Nature's wonders, vistas, views.
24. Visiting a Botanical Garden.
25. Attending Art & Craft Shows.
26. W/E mini-vacations.

Although these things can bring me joy, I don't think they can begin to cure the feelings I have when I really need nurturing attention, kindness, or just to know that someone cares about me.

It was a struggle to find 20 things that didn't involve food!

1 coffee on the doorstep or at the beach
2 chat with friend
3 reading
4 yoga
* 5 painting toenails
6 Spark blogs
7 a bunch of flowers
8 knitting
* 9 a magazine
10 washing my hair
11 walking amongst trees
12 work-free days
13 craft work
14 music
15 running
* 16 doing a puzzle
17 picnics (this involves food, but also being outdoors)
* 18 visiting family (this isn't instant, but planning the visit would be ok)
19 parks & gardens
20 maps - planning walks

I just bought some new sandals, so I think buying mail varnish and painting my toenails will be on my list for the weekend.

Today I am doing yoga, reading, and knowing I have no work tomorrow is good too. Perhaps I can take coffee to the beach this evening to mark the end of my day, and the end of my work week.
