DAY #30 FEEL BLESSED

There are days when I feel "out of sorts", but they seem farther and farther apart then they once were. I have worked so hard at changing my attitude about so many things in my life and taking action steps to reduce the things that cause me to feel stressed.

If I do find myself having one of these days, I recognize that feeling right away and name it even if I can't figure out the cause. It is during these times that I give myself a Mental Health day. A day of Extreme Self-Care. A day when I don't do anything I don't want to do. Easy and relaxed.

I find that taking stock of the many blessing I have and voicing gratitude for them is even more beneficial than the self-care part of the process.

I HAVE SO MUCH TO BE GRATEFUL FOR!

A one-day plan for extreme self-care would include taking extra time with grooming "chores" -- soaking and massaging my feet with granular cream, trimming nails, filing them -- a home pedicure. Same with my face -- warm moist towel over it, then soaping with mild granular cleanser, taking time for behind ears, etc. Tweezing with attention to detail etc. Coloring if needed. Soaking in a scented tub of hot water...and enjoying it as long as I want to.

I could do one of the yoga videos that focus on relaxation and meditation that I'm in too much of a hurry to do most other times I'm looking for a "real" workout.

I'm blessed in so many ways now. I'm comfortable and have a loving family. The financial struggles of young adulthood have eased, and although I still have a frugal mentality, I can splurge every now and then on something worthwhile. I have many outlets for enjoyment and learning, and a DH who is also active and intelligent. My health is good for a 67 yr old.

I've already posted this somewhere else, but I felt blessed by the Universe to receive an unexpected, very firm and sincere friendly hug from a stranger yesterday (14th)! A young man who stopped to say he liked the tune I was humming, and told me I reminded him of his grandmother (who he said was a lovely woman - amazing woman).

I can't remember the last time I had a good hug - to get one from a friendly stranger was amazing - it really felt like it was 'heaven-sent'!

I got a 'badge' from Garmin too - the fitness tracker - I love it's little incentive badges!

Day 30 - Feel Blessed

Last year was an apex of blessedness, this year there are a few downturns - for me 2 new health issues, not serious but makes me be more careful and excludes some activities I used to enjoy. The younger generation was perfectly thriving with some welcoming children of their own, then last year my nephew separated from his partner deeply wounding her and leaving his 4yo daughter and becoming a part-time dad. I still have many blessings to count - above all still above average health and fitness, a very complementary partner, children who are happy doing well, DH and I figuring out retirement and having enough savings, participating in a lot of fun and stimulating activities, having a lot of choices in how to enjoy life.

Day 30 - Feel Blessed

One Day Plan
First, start my day with reading the Bible and praying. The Lord knows all of my hurts and disappointments, and He cares.
Read a good book while enjoying a cup of hot tea.
Take a few minutes to enjoy my Mary Kay Satin Hands set.
Take a walk.
Do some stretching exercises.
Call a friend.

Ways I'm blessed right now:
I have a wonderful husband and son. A warm home. A good church. Many friends. My dog. Plans to travel to England to hike. The ability to hike. A part-time job that is flexible and a wonderful boss.

emoticon How appropriate that this comes on Valentine’s Day.
I will spend extra time with a new lotion I received as a gift.
I will finish reading a book I’m enjoying.
I will get outside for a meditation walk and find moments of gratitude.
I’ll watch a movie “A Year by the Sea” that I am looking forward to.

Day 30 Feel blessed

Rather than chase the elusive feelings of happiness, pay attention to areas where you feel blessed. Appreciate the people you love, be grateful for the good things around you, and let others know you are feeling blessed.

Today

• Create a one-day plan for extreme self-care. Include non-food things that feel nurturing.
• Do each of the things on your list, and record how it felt to take extra care of yourself.
• Write a list of ways you are blessed right now. Read your list several times today.

It is good to think I am worth it to take extra care of me, but also my new balance is not to escape into indulgences to feel better, rather to nurture and respect myself as I would someone else like a good friend or my child, to let them (me) feel valued and worthy.

"True self-care is not soft baths and chocolate cake.
It is making the choice to build a life you don't need to regularly need to escape from."
A recent epiphany, I agree with this post on my sister's on Facebook.

For me indulgent self-care would be to escape my regular work, chores and responsibilities and spend a whole day of outdoors something like hiking or swimming/snorkelling or puttering exploring on my bike, or spend the whole day reading, or spend the whole day with my sister, or spending a whole day exploring a city or region (history, culture, landmarks, natural phenomena). I can do these things on vacation days, that is what vacations are for and are days to plan and look forward to. On regular days, I want to balance my life by building a life I don't need to regularly escape from.

It feels good to know I am part of a family and contributing to their well-being with the efforts put into regular every-day life. It feels good to go on vacation and experience new things and spend leisure time with family.

I just returned from an epic and life highlight vacation with my brother, his 20yo daughter and her boyfriend, my sister. We visited Europe, places of our ancestors - my parents emigrated to Canada in 1955 and we have roots in Italy and Switzerland, it was my niece's first time to Europe. We went to London, Barcelona, Ibiza, Zurich, Glarus, Engadin, Lugano, Lake Como, Sestri Levante, Bergamo, Venice and Milan. It was a wonderful trip. I had no idea how it would shape up, and was happy we had close to a maximum possible experience. I am riding this high right now.

I feel blessed in so many ways
- wonderful DH who is a good provider and partner in raising our family
- kids who are all productive and engaged in careers they enjoy
- good health - great health and great rewards to my fitness efforts in staying healthy and fit
- enjoyable home and rewarding part-time work
- freedom and opportunity to do what I enjoy
- extended family is doing well - we are in a good place right now, that can change, but for now we are enjoying that everyone is doing pretty darn good, may it continue

I have a few things I would like to improve, sleep regimen being on top of the list. I have too many days of going to bed too late and then napping in the afternoon. I would like to also improve my home care routines, I hate to house keep, I would much rather be outside. Lots of CHAOS days, from FlyLady, Can't have anyone over syndrome. And I would like to firm up my nutrition routines, get to and maintain goal fitness and weight.

100 More DWL - Day 30 Feel Blessed

Maribeth I really love the summary of the past 10 days! emoticon

1. Create a 1 Day Plan for EXTREME self-care:

Planned things but what I didn't manage to achieve I did on Saturday instead.

- Relax with a glass of water followed by a lovely coffee
- Watch a TV programme which no one else likes to watch
- Sit in the garden for 20 minutes enjoying my flowers
- Shower and wash my hair
- Finish my book

2. Do each of the things listed and record how it felt:

Think I could have probably suggested more exciting things but achieving all the jobs on my list as well made me very happy!

- Relax with a glass of water followed by a lovely coffee - enjoyed on Friday
- Watch a TV programme which no one else likes to watch- enjoyed on Friday
- Sit in the garden for 20 minutes enjoying my flowers - stood with my MiL 10 mins both days
- Shower and wash my hair- enjoyed on Saturday, felt really good
- Finish my book- enjoyed on Saturday, felt really good

- The early morning activities were very successful and just for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my book in bed Saturday morning.
On Sat my dh also coloured my hair and it looked so much better, so self care definitely.

3. Ways I am blessed:

- having a fantastic husband
- having two fantastic young people in my family (who I gave birth to) who have just started doing jobs round the house emoticon
- being a healthy weight and maintaining it!
- being a Spark person, enjoying my friendships here and challenges
- having this wonderful job looking after my MiL and having super Parents myself
- enjoying friends in my life
- having good health
- having a beautiful and comfortable home

Today I am going to paint my fingernails. Not a big deal - but kinda sorta is. It's taking time to do something for me - something I like and that makes me feel good. I'm actually not a primpy person. I don't wear much make up - maybe a little eye shadow because now that I'm old I'm losing color!! But it makes 'me' feel good. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm taking extra time this morning with coffee too.

I'm blessed because -
1. I have a family who loves me
2. I'm doing well healthwise
3. Good check-up Friday with eye doctor
4. I have good friends, home, plenty of everything I need
5. I'm blessed!

DAY #30 FEEL BLESSED - ROUND 2

Another lesson I can relate well to. Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed by life's challenges and want to have a Pity Party I find that taking stock of all the blessings in my life really helps towards lifting my spirits and calming me down. After all there is always someone who has it a lot rougher than I do! I have done Monthly Gratitude Journals where I list just one thing to be grateful for that day and I have also done the Daily Gratitude where you list 3-5 things to be grateful for.

1. Create a 1 Day Plan for EXTREME self-care:

- Start my day with a treat - flavored creamer in my coffee
- Sit in my favorite morning chair as long as I want instead of rushing off to do tasks
- Take extra time to read inspirational writings: scripture, poems, SP blogs/articles/team posts
- Dress in an outfit for the day that I especially like
- Put a bit of make-up
- Meet a friend for coffee, lunch, or a walk
- No household chores
- If no friends are available, walk by myself through a park or browse some shops/bookstore
- If it is summer, spend the day "playing in the dirt"
- Lift my face to the sun and take some deep breaths of fresh air
- Take an extra Yoga class
- Get a massage or pedi/mani
- Go out to dinner
- Go to a movie
- Read all day!

2. Do each of the things listed and record how it felt:

- Well, I can't say that I feel a need for extreme self-care right now, but I know the feelings of that need and I can tell you that I make sure to allow myself "Mental Health" days whenever I do need them. Although I eventually feel emotional better after a period of time or some nurturing activity, it doesn't always mean that extra foods did not come into play along the way.

3. Ways I am blessed:

- God's love for me
- Another day to live
- The love of my DH
- The good relationship have with my DD
- Memories made spending time with my family
- Friends in my life
- Very good health
- A beautiful and comfortable home
- Financial stability
- Plentiful food
- Spark People
- Freedom

The list could go on and on and on! ! ! !

(5) Drink at least three cups of lemon and ginger tea at work this evening - not tea or coffee - fail!

Day #30 Feel Blessed

Or in other words - Attitude of Gratitude! Like all of you, I too have much to be thankful for.

In an attempt to bring BALANCE to my life I recently took the 4 areas of Emotion-Spirit-Mind-Body and wrote out a goal for each as part of using Spark Guy's Fuel for Improvement Cornerstones. One of my goals had to do with changing my attitude. When people think of me I want them to have happy thoughts because of the happy energy I share instead of negative thoughts about me because I am such a Debbie Downer. With that in mind I have a daily gratitude list of 5 things. It has really helped make a difference in how I view my life and respond to it.

A note a made to myself for today's lesson is:

WHEN YOU'RE STRESSED REMEMBER YOU ARE BLESSED!

In the face of stress I need to stop and take the time to think of what kind of blessing the situation is bringing me or what lesson I am learning.

I like Linda's suggestion to have a plan of daily extreme self-care during periods of high stress. For me that would be retreating to a space of quiet, doing some small activity that I really enjoy such as looking through a magazine, stopping for a Latte at one of our local coffee shops, browsing a bookstore. taking a nap.

Right now I can't think of any high stress times coming up in my life. Every week I am working hard to keep my schedule at a manageable level so that the feeling of stress doesn't build up.

Yes! I've enjoyed reading all the posts and motivational images.

I agree -- our pets are blessings. We have two sweet dogs that provide us with a lot of joy every day.

I'm in a good place with my eating and weight loss.

I'm excited about my upcoming total indulgence of cosmetic surgery.

I'm blessed to have a fairly good DH emoticon ...and sons that keep in touch pretty well.

I'm lucky to live in a secluded spot where I can putter around outside to my heart's content.

I am Blessed by reading all of your fantastic posts and reading your inspirational sayings and pictures. emoticon WOW! What an awesome group.

I too feel so blessed. As I "pray walked" with my friend this morning it centered around gratitude and thankfulness. My blessings are many. I have a kind. loving husband, family, friends, a home with a peaceful, soul nourishing view, birds, flowers. It is a lot of work but I enjoy helping to take care of it all. I need to be thankful and appreciate it even more because changes have occurred and many more are planned in our area.

God has enabled and blessed me with teaching what I love and at the same time I am getting exercise and continuing to learn new things. I enjoy sharing my passion for health and fitness from like minded people and they share with me.

Aura, your post makes me aware of even more blessings as I think of tonight. We will surprise celebrate the 80th birthday of a truly inspirational yoga teacher friend of mine. Yes, blessings abound.

Day 30 - Feel blessed

I am SO blessed. Yes, I got a really bad diagnosis this year but.....I'm blessed that I have a condition that may get bad but does not include pain...and I really hate pain! It also makes me take a lot of time-outs so me time is even more necessary than usual and I have absolutely no guilt.

Another blessing...I think the Mestinon is working and my body is adjusting to it.
Another blessing...I haven't gained any weight.

AND there are those other blessings...a home I enjoy, my wonderful hub, my children, grands, and so many caring sparkfriends and other friends! I am a truly a lucky girl.

Now if hub could only cook....LOL

Today's self care time will include rest, sparking, a little home spa time, and some reading.

I'll get a few small "domestics' done as energy allows. Some exercise but not much.

Loving this 100 MORE Days book - Linda is a wonder!

Include non-food things that feel nurturing.
planning to go thru boxes
having my coffee
getting to gym
• Do each of the things on your list, and record how it felt to take extra care of yourself.
• Write a list of ways you are blessed right now. Read your list several times today.

Another decade completed! I am loving this new book!

Self care list in my bullet journal:

I have a self care plan in place for Saturday when I will have a mani/pedi after work and then we are heading out to a hot air balloon jubilee in Jackson MI which includes tethered balloon rides. A ride on a hot air balloon has been on my bucket list for decades. It may just happen!

I am very blessed, every day, to have such wonderful and loving friends, family and boyfriend. I am blessed to be able to work at a career where I can help make other peoples lives better. I am blessed with reasonably good health.

Well, today I will be at work for most of the day - team meeting this morning 10.00-14.00 - which goes right across lunch-time. So, I'm breaking my no-snack rule and following Linda's lead from her "I care" blog yesterday, and taking a peanut protein bar and a small peach to eat at break time.

Then I will come home and have a 'proper' meal, before returning to work at 16.30 and sleeping over at work.

This morning I noticed an advertisement for a gentle foot treatment at a local church community centre - I reckon that'll go on my list for self-care.

Today, my extreme self-care will be to continually re-fill my lovely filter water bottle and drink, drink, drink!

I have also slathered my post-run legs with an exotically perfumed shea butter 'mousse'. I smell lovely!

I am taking a book to read in bed (at work) tonight, for a little 'me time' before I turn off the light.

Extreme self-care whilst busy - this is do-able with thought!

I am grateful daily for all my many blessings. I live in a secure home, have abundance in all areas, I have a wonderful supportive Hubby, a loving, entertaining dog and am improving my life every day.

It feels good to soak my feet in herbal epsom salts. It feels great to smooth lightly scented lotion on my hands, and arms and asking Hubby to help rub it on my feet and legs since I can't quite reach them yet. It feels terrific to breathe deeply, stretch and move my body. I enjoy petting my dog's incredibly soft fur. I laugh seeing her 'happy tail' when she knows she can go swimming. I like brushing my hair and I'm finally learning to braid it. It's awesome to take care of myself. Oh, I also like coloring, crafting cards or crocheting.
