I started out just following the parents. Then I reached a brick wall and tried a brother, there was all kinds of info on him. Now I record the siblings if I have a problem I check them out. Many times there is info on them that doesn't show on the ancestor I'm looking for.

Objects in the mirror will get thinner than they now appear

Sometimes if you put in someone who wasn't directly related by blood it will link you to more of the ancestors of the person related by blood. I put in my great grandmother's first husband who had passed away and all Grandma's half siblings and got a leaf to someone who had linked onto the first husband. It was my great grandmother who he was distantly related to, though, not her first husband. If I hadn't put him in I wouldn't have found out so much of that line. I haven't found out anything about her second husband other than where he was buried and that from a DAR listing of a program.

I usually print out all relatives from Ancestry. I'm careful to make sure of the line and sometimes I seem to be listing too far out however, I've been contacted by a few of those and we have a topic of interest and expand it. It also gives me a topic of interest to be related to an Earl , Charles Lindbergh, and Mayflower families...I can cut them off when I print out a direct line for of my family for their keepsake,

Personal goal is to weigh in 159 by the end of March 2017. I did not make my previous goal so must do better...I ACHIEVED THE GOAL OF REACHING 151 IN MAY 2013. A LOSS OF 37 POUNDS! Summer of 2014 I gained 10 pounds of it back while traveling to the BVI's and Ireland so I have set a new goal for 2017 to be back to below 155.

... and I'll steal her stuff. The historical society gives a "first family" certificate if you trace a relative back past 1840 and she has done three so far. I just get her info and then where her name is I put mine instead. Voila! That was easy! (I'm descended from a closet skeleton.)

That is kind of my thought. It would be different if she were writing it all longhand, but she has a powerful computer, Ancestry, and text takes very little space... so, why not? That's another reason I don't wanna make her mad, I can steal her Ancestry. (She's into DAR and the local historical society and I think they stress direct blood relatives.)

Well, my bossy sister told me that she only traces blood relatives and I'm of the mind that it wouldn't hurt to follow some of the "by marriage" relatives as well. I have to be nice to her because I'm just getting started again and she has scads of info. Anyway, I just wondered what others do? Everybody or just direct blood ancestors and relatives?
