I have friends who've run Kaiser; I'll try to ask them for more info. It is a February race so there is hopefully a higher chance of rain.

Rock n roll starts with the mile nine hill of Nike. That's a hard start. It's a more challenging race overall, including the bridge out and back. A friend who has run almost 20 halfs called it brutal.

Divas race is not in SF. It's near the SF airport and is primarily a baylands run.

Getting to run on the Golden Gate Bridge is pretty amazing.

I don't know first or second hand about the other races.

I wonder if Kaiser hands out oranges for their own HM (Kaiser Permanente SF HM). Speaking of other HMs in San Francisco, halfmarathons.net shows 10 HMs, several of which use parts of the same course as Nike.

Kaiser Permanente HM
Rock 'n' Roll HM
ZombieRunner HM
Divas HM
SF HM
Giant HM
Golden Gate HM
Lake Merced HM
Salomon Citytrail HM
North Face Endurance HM

Friends tell me that the SF HM itself is a more spectacular course than Nike HM as the SF HM goes on the Golden Gate bridge.

On the other hand, the Kaiser HM features a 4 mile long downhill with no matching uphill. Net elevation change of negative 158 feet!

It's a spectacular race. You get to run through much of San Francisco. Truly gorgeous. At mile five Kaiser Hospital passes out orange slices, and the air is just redolent as the runners run over the peels.

Instead of a medal, the finishers get a Tiffany necklace. I wear mine frequently.

If you are local, I know the Menlo Park Fleet Feet store still has some guaranteed spots if you train with their team.

That was my sister's first marathon and she did the half the following year, and had a lot of fun. I think you have to get in by lottery too, not sure she paid 200 though.

There was a Nike Women's HM here in DC last year but it was "only" $160. Did the cost of silver (or firefighters) go up $40 in a year?

I think it's actually on quite a few bucket lists. When you finish, a firefighter in a tux gives you a Tiffany Co. necklace. You'll get alot more info if you look on pinterest. :)

Anyone look into this HM? My first reaction is: "Who would pay $200 for a HM?" The website doesn't provide an answer. In fact, it pretty much says nothing! Huh?
