Another year, another Harpers Ferry HM. Price has gone up since people have discovered it. For several years, only 200 people would do it but last year, 361 finished it - wow. Somehow it got on a whole bunch of "must do" lists in Runners World and other magazines.

To take a little of the sting away, here is a $5 discount code for 2017: HFH17 so it's only $55 if you register before March 1.

I'm getting ready to sign up for the Harpers Ferry HM (again). Just figured I'd mention it for anyone who might like a hilly HM in lovely West Virginia. It's $50 if you sign up before next week.

That sounds like a very challenging course! I love hiking there but I could not run that. It is a beautiful area and with Spring in the air it should be gorgeous! Enjoy!

Looks beautiful, but challenging - one I'll have to add to the runs I'd like to do someday list. Hope you have a good run!

I have to laugh because I'm considering doing back to back HM weekends this fall (which would be #3 and #4 for me respectively) and there's a warning about something like an 80 ft climb over .75 miles with a total ascent of less than 400 ft for the second half paved/half trail race. Us Floridians consider that a hilly course. emoticon

I'm pacing the Fargo Marathon that day or I would be very tempted! I love hills and do need a WV half marathon to add to my paltry state array.

Looking forward to hearing about it!

Here's a link to the course.

It's extremely scenic - crosses the Appalachian Trail 3 times and has great views of the Potomac River and Shenandoah River and the historic town of Harpers Ferry.

Sounds like that would make the Flower City Half, which is known for the hills from mile 6 to mile 10, look rather tame. You make me want to see the course; but it doesn't fit into my race schedule or my travel budget.

Sigh. So many races, so little time.

For anyone who wants to test if their hillwork has been enough, it's two weeks to the Harpers Ferry HM.

Starts with some modest hills and after you're suitably tired, you encounter a monster of a long and steep hill followed by a crazy downhill and another monster uphill just a mile and a half before the finish.

1000 ft of elevation gain!

I'm registered and anxious.
