I got 15 quarts of juice BUT...........................
I think the grapes could have been a bit riper ! The juice is still Wonderful but not as rich as I would like ! I had to pick them as it is so dry here that they were drying out and getting hard !
No rain scheduled until next week !

I haven't had grapes in years ! For some reason, this year I did !

Time to pick Grapes and make Juice to Can ! They Smell AWESOME !

I went to check on my grapes, yesterday, and you can smell them...My yard smells like a Welches Grape Juice Plant !!! That's when you know when to pick them. I will juice them in my steam juicer and bottle it in Quarts ! Good project on this rainy day ! (other than picking them through the rain drops !)

I hope you have good results with the cherry tomatoes. Are you going to try to get some fruit this winter? Will it work in the house?

I transplanted a small spider plant today. It was a "baby" that I'd put in the kitchen window in a very small pot and, after only a year, it's making its own baby. It actually looks funny for such a small spider plant to be sending out little "spiders" but it was getting crowded in that small pot. I put it into a larger one and added a couple more "babies" from my older plant to thicken it up. Now I've started another little one in the tiny pot. I'm thinking that these will be gifts later.

Well...I tried planting the tomatoes from this Growing Fruit from your Scraps Thread !
2 different types of cherry tomatoes ! The ones I grew from plants I bought have such thick skins and they were not sweet !
I bought a pint basket of heirloom cherry tomatoes the other day and they are WONDERFUL !!! Sweet and thin skinned ! SOOOO................
I decided to try this method of cutting them in half and planting the halves.

What I used !

In their pots...

All Snuggled in for a good nap before heading off to work their magic !
Fingers Crossed !

I'm planting the last of the tomatoes in my garden...
A friend brought me 5 plants she started from seeds. I've never heard of them so this will be interesting...
Not that I needed more tomato plants. I already had 10 tomato plants and 6 cherry tomato plants ! ..Looks like I will be giving away a bunch of tomatoes this year !

Good Morning All !

Well, my gardens are planted, mostly ! Just have to plant carrots, parsnips and some Thyme that a friend gave me !
I'm worried about the tomatoes and seeds I have planted ! With all of this rain (2"per day or so), I'm afraid that there is to much water. The tomatoes are starting to yellow and the seeds my just rot ! We will have to wait and see !

My Don Juan Climbing roses are doing the best they have ever grown and flowered !

Cathy, do you put matches in the hole before you plant your peppers ?
I read that they like the Sulphur...I've been doing it for years...I have no idea if it is doing anything, but I do it because my Grandmother did it ! LOL

This year, instead of egg shells (as calcium helps prevent blossom end rot) in the hole for my tomato plants, I used Tums...Again, I read it somewhere !

All of the tomato plants are now planted ! emoticon

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to plant this spring because I want to have our brick patio re-done. There are weeds growing between all the bricks (it's about 30 years old). I'm afraid if I plant anything, it will get damaged with all the other work.

However, once the patio is re-done, I will re-plant my herb garden around it, and make a walkway from the patio to the gazebo. I also have two old broken benches (wood, with cast iron ends) so I'll hopefully be fixing those. I haven't decided yet on the rest of the plants going in this year, except to transplant some lavender from the front to the back.

Can't wait for the snow to be gone, and the ground to warm up!

I suck at starting seeds, so I buy starts as soon as they get into our stores !
I do plant beans, peas, zukes, potatoes, onion, garlic and such from seeds.

Most egg cartons and yogurt cups are non biodegradable, so they won't work with my plan to replant the seedling and soil together for easy transfer and less seedling stress. I found some of my seeds, but not some of the ones I want. Oh, well. I'll look some more before I go buy some. I'm usually pretty good at keeping things together and where they are supposed to be, but not always it seems. I am probably going to buy some started stock too pretty soon (while there is still some good stock I like locally), but I will need to keep the pots inside or where I can get them back inside very easily for a while since we are still having .

Good Morning ! You are going to be one busy person soon ! Great Plans !

You don't need to buy anything to start your seeds in, try egg cartons or just some small cottage cheese or yogurt containers and put some holes in the bottoms !

I think I would like to try starting some garden stock early inside, so I am guessing I need to start soon. I would like to start with some grape tomatoes and I would like to find some seeds for a sweet variety that is good for snacks right off of the plant. I thought the best way might be to get those little brown six celled things from a farm or garden store and start seeds in them so I can plant the started seedlings in six different pots (ok 2 of them so 12 ) that I have outside. I have to protect my plants or they all get destroyed early (mostly by other humans), so that is why I grow in pots. We also have raccoons, opossums, deer and other wildlife that clean out anything in the garden plot. The pots are right in front of the house. I would like to start broccoli too. They also have done very well in pots here. I would like to try snow peas in pots too. I need to stick with plants that won't get too large. My strawberries are in pots near the house too. I might try carrots and spinach since someone destroyed my established spinach (with a chrysanthemum border and established irises) when they said our property line surveyed more than 50 yrs earlier with the steel stakes still there was too far over. They took out the mature oaks left on our side of the older stakes too so now there is no light shade the wild Spiranthes (an orchid) that I have been trying to protect for years liked. We had weeds coming up all over the place in our yard too. I have spent a lot of time weeding and with this warm winter I am back to it. Mowing does not get weeds out of the lawn, so I'm hand pulling. No real winter slow down this yr.

Good Morning Chris...
I plant mine so the tip of the bulb is about 1 to 1.5" below ground level.
As in planting any bulb, the rule is to plant them 1 to 1 1/2 times their length.
Yes, I space them about 3" - 4" apart so they can have room to grow and take in the nutrients they need. I planted them closer last year and they were all very small.
The year before I planted them farther apart and they were very large.
I use the garlic that I harvested in July, so I haven't bought garlic to plant in many years...

Good Morning !!!

I love our new rain schedule by Mother Nature !!!
It rains every 3-4 days...No need to water the gardens...My tomatoes are ripening now that we have cooler temps and my beans are coming on strong now. I've seen more bees pollinating that earlier in the season.
Getting my garlic ready for planting... I plant my garlic on Sept 15th every year !

I saw this link before and I love the using old windows. They are at yardsales everywhere around here...plus I have some already from when we redid our windows in 1996...
I kept them...Because you never know when you may need a window ! Right ? emoticon

I never got to do my diced tomatoes yesterday...A friend gave me a peck of jalapeno peppers (More poppers) and 2 mini pepper plants. She just pulled them up and gave them to me !!! I planted the plants and watered them in good...
This picture is from this morning so they look like they will survive !

They are loaded with 1-2" peppers !!!

Oh, I forgot to say that this is one of my tomato beds...See the Twisty tomato stakes?

Also, each one of the hoses can expand to 65 ft.

Yeah !!! The 90's are gone for the moment !!!

Last evening, I set up my new soaker/mister hoses in my 3 garden beds...
The hoses are coiled so you can stretch them where you want them and they store easy...They come with 4 stakes so you can "pin" them where you need them to go...

they attach together so mine are across all 3 beds...Just turn on the hose and let them do their thing !
Our discount store had them for 1.99 each in their closeout center.

Patti, I wasn't getting many grapes from my vine either and this year pruned and continued pruning just to keep it inbounds and enjoy the plant. THAT worked, the squirrels and birds will probably still get the grapes and I'm OK with that. Smiles

I just got in from picking my raspberries...The birds are all flying around and Squawking Like Mad !!! I guess I interrupted their Breakfast !!! :}
I put what I picked into a ziploc bag and freeze them until I get enough to make something with them. I probably pick about a bit less than a pint each day.
I wanted to pick cherries from a You Pick It farm, but the sour cherries were so small that after I would pit them, there wouldn't be much left...An boy were they expensive...
3.99/ lb. and most of that would be the pits...Literally !!!
My 2 cherry trees died !
Blueberries are nice and big this year...Well, I finally did some research last year and learned how to prune them for better fruit production...Who knew after all of these years??? Well, the pruning worked and I'm Happy !

That's a lot of Basil! I'm enjoying cherry tomatoes and Romaine from my deck now. Have peppers ready for picking as needed in the garden. Squirrels are my "container diggers", Xena has helped with that some; they are not as brazen with her around although she's never caught one. I got in the habit years ago of letting the seedlings grow up through ( or fitting the wire around) chicken wire. I also mulch my house plants with smallish rocks--deters both the squirrels and Xena. Now if the rain would quit sweeping NE of Lexington!!

I put in my twisted tomato stakes yesterday and transplanted my basil seedlings...
I had 2 packs of Old seeds, so I sprinkled then in 2 pots. Well, most of them sprouted !
Here is one of the pots !

I put them in 3 pots...Not all of them but enough for me (like 30+) The rest I will give away...
Here is one of the pots...

When I got up this morning and went on to the porch, look what I found !
Something dug up one of the pots !

Looks like I will have to replant and not give a way so many !!! emoticon

Stuck with those hedges until they were done yesterday! 7.5 hours with clean-up; picture only shows about half. I slept like a rock last night. Hooping and an easier day today. Garden Center and grocery shopping. Dry this morning; would love to get a tree in before the rain this week.

my bench spot and it put there !
It will get the morning sun and then filtered sun the rest of the day...

Now to get some fun things around it and plants and flowers on it.
I was going to put Jimmy's old sink on it but it is cast iron and way to heavy for this old thing. I will find a different spot for it !
