For me junk food is sweets which, unfortunately, I haven't even been able to make one day free for a long time. I keep trying to figure out what I can substitute for them so that I quit eating them.

What is junk food to you? To me it's deep fried foods. I have been chicken nugget, & FF Free since Oct 5. Even choosing Teri chic (sauce on the side)at panda instead of orange chic. Choosing fruit over cookies & candy! 3 wks fried food free!

emoticon That is great. I finally started doing better and then my kitchen and laundry room pipes backed up where they go to the sewer line, so I can't use the kitchen sink to wash dishes (can't afford to get the plumber to clear the line) and am having to eat frozen dinners. I do plan to make some green chili soon. Was going to try the green chili cookoff again this year, but it costs $10 to enter and I don't have the $10 for that, either. So I will make a big pot and freeze it to have later.

My problem is I keep going back to the same vegetables all the time. Namely tomatoes, potatoes, some carrots and spinach salad. Carrots have to be cooked because I can't bite into the raw. I would like to know how to cook things that I will like. There really doesn't seem to be a lot of variety around here, maybe because we don't have a long growing season.

Fancyqtr, I think you will like the website. She also does videos on you tube. I wish I had a farmer's market near by, but local supermarkets carry lots of variety here. I understand being short on cash. Remember frozen veggies have the same nutrient value as fresh, and offer cost less.

That is emoticon . I am going to check out that site. I need something. I just keep ending up with something bad. I have been doing better (mainly cause I can't afford to eat out), but I still end up with some bad stuff even making my own. Today I did get some veggies from a farmers market at Human Services. It is just a little one by the Botanic Gardens, but I got 4 or 5 things for $3.25. At any other farmers market just one of them would be that much.

I made it 6 weeks (44 days actually) without any junk food. I have only eaten home prepared meals and my A1C is at 5.9 which is down from 6.4. First week was hard but the I started following a blog called Mind Over Munch. She only prepares her food a couple of times a week and I have slightly modified her techniques and find the really work. I am so jazzed. This is the most success I have had in a long time. I really took this challenge to heart.

Didn't do as well today since I had an eye appointment. After my friend and I had Chinese for lunch (that isn't so bad cause my main meal is the chicken or combo with garlic sauce and no sugar and I didn't eat a lot of it) and then an ice cream for dessert. On the plus side for my weight, I immediately had an IBS attack. On the negative side, that happened before I got home. I totally hate that.

Yesterday I picked up the 10-Day Detox Diet by Mark Hyman M.D. and the accompaning cookbook. Haven't gotten too far, but the cookbook beginning looks interesting. I don't know if it is basically for the sugar solution or if it was written for something other than that since he has one that is The Sugar Solution 10-Day Detox Diet that came out before the one I picked up and this one has "The Sugar Solution" in smaller print at the top of the book.

I mostly behaved myself shopping today. I wasn't coming home from church, so did need to get something somewhere for lunch. Had a roast beef sandwich and banana from the store and went to McDonalds for an iced tea. Then splurged on a small fries, but didn't eat many of them. Kept looking at things at the store on the way home, but stayed pretty good except for one small thing. So was thinking I need to go to Kings and get cheese, milk and sour cream, but those are not allowed on a 10-day or 2 week cleanse I am going to try for the IBS, so skipped that. Guess that means I can't have any mashed potatoes, too.

I am going to try this again. I have been doing really bad, so it's going to be hard to start in again. But I just have to do it for me. I just read something on getting rid of bloating, I think, then someone's messages on SP which she did to help with IBS and they are both just about the same, so I am looking at them. Having a little problem with it because what I thought would work for starting it isn't exactly what the article said. It may be that I don't start exactly right, but will get there eventually. It is the allowed fruits and vegetables that I haven't figured out yet.

Wish me luck on this, or maybe I should say pray for me.

You are doing so good. I am wondering if I can manage something so I don't go crazy anymore, but I am not sure what I will do. I mean thinking of what kind of food I can get to eat that is fairly fast. I end up on practice nights without something good to eat because I usually need something fast. I wish I could grab something like carrots or apples, but I can't chew them. That would make things so much easier. Maybe I can manage to get a little ground beef or make the chicken I got out into something that would be like a sandwich without it getting too dry (I just hate it when my chicken is so dry and it always seems to end up that way).

I've been going through a couple cookbooks that are wheat free or grain free and are supposed to be low carb. A bit high calorie, though, and not too low carb, but fit into the diabetes suggestions.

Good day. Planning low carb meals. I wanted a cookie so bad today but I had a couple of strawberries instead. When I have a craving try and wait it out. It passes. It is just staying strong and riding the wave.
Looking forward to be junk free one more day as I go one day at a time

That is so true. I hate when there is a blur. But it does not happen very often. Losing my sight scares me. What food is worth losing your sight?
Maybe we will have to check in on each other more often..... I'm learning to more baby steps. I think my picture is to big. As I want to be better NOW... So taking very small steps maybe the answer for me like... Like 3-4 hours at a time. Good luck to us.
I'm going to have one carb per meal tomorrow. One meal at a time.

I understand that. My problem is I will do really good for a while, then completely lose it. I need to get back to the lower carbs and maybe I will be able to see a little better. Having cataract surgery isn't worth it if I ruin my eyes by letting my BG bet too high all the time.

We just have to do our best. I'm planning my meals ahead. I'm counting my carbs before I eat so I know how many carbs I'm getting so I don't go over. I'm really trying hard.
I want to start to feel better. In which I can feel the difference. The no junk has really made a difference. Just need to make small steps each day.

I was told 15-20 grams for snacks and 45-60 for meals. That is higher than I was eating before, so it didn't make any sense to me.

At the diabetes expo this year they were only interested in the amount of sugar in things it seemed like. Anything they showed had high grams, but they tried to be low sugar. Kind of like a former friend figured. She said no sugar and no fat and a person would be fine. She never considered that the carbs turn to sugar in the body. She believes the fat turns to sugar, though. She also believes that the toppings you put on potatoes are the carbs, not the fats, so it is okay to eat as many potatoes as you want.

There is a topic on here about the medical community seeing the light (can't remember exactly the name of the topic). There is a link on it now to a blog by the Joslin Diabetes Center on how the decision that diabetics should eat higher carbs was wrong and needs to be corrected. I didn't read the entire blog yet, but am going to go back and read it later when I have more time.

I ended up at fast food again last night, but without the bun. I was going to make a turkey burger, but after at least a full day in the fridge my turkey was still frozen. I should be able to use it today. And I had canned stew. Not so good.

That is nice that your dietitians don't want you eating higher carbs. When I figured the carbs they wanted me to eat compared to what I normally ate it was higher for theirs. Of course, at certain times of the year that goes the other way. The dietitians I saw at the hospital wanted me to even have completely carb snacks between meals.

Around here, they want you on the less carbs you can have. That is my plan .
As for this challenge I'm not perfect but a lot better then before. Im starting to feel a lot better too. Hang in there with hard work it will get easier.

I think I am getting better for this. I still have been having ham sandwiches, but not so much other junk. I finished off my chili and made some tortilla soup and that is the main thing I have been eating. Since it is cold this week I am mostly trying to have hot stuff.

I hope the dietitian is helpful for you. Here they all insist you should eat whole grains and high carbs, so I don't use them. I'd rather try to follow what my doctor gave me (though that is hard cause sometimes I want the bread and potatoes -- mostly I follow it unless I get in a rut like now). I think the weather has a lot to do with some things.

That lobster sounds good. Kings had surf and turf on sale today. Lobster, crab, shrimp, scallops and rib eye, I think. Wish I could have gotten some of that. I got some oranges, bananas and an avocado and then some things I shouldn't have like a loaf of bread and a piece of the really light, fluffy cheesecake. It has been so long since I had that I couldn't resist. I should divide up that loaf of bread and put most in the freezer. I have been fixing grilled cheese or ham sandwiches since I didn't have time to make anything else the last few days. I am just struggling too much trying to get back to lower carb.

It has been along time since I have had a cookie it was so good. But now that's it for junk food for awhile.
Oh when I first got IBS, the first 3 years I ate very bla food. I would get some much pain, it was just unbearable. I'm happy to say I have my IBS in control. If I eat something that does not agree with me I take 2 Hyoscyamine, I call it my miracle pill. A prescription last me a year, so you see I dont need them very often.. Happy Valentines Day. Love yourself enough to walk away from the choc.

Yes, I have IBS pretty bad. Then have nerve damage from radiation treatments. The problem this week seems to have been stomach virus, though. I called the nurse line and after arguing that I couldn't afford to go to the ER and wouldn't make it there anyway, she finally told me there was one going around that lasted 2-5 days. Mine lasted about 6. So I am still not eating normal.

With lettuce I usually could manage leaf lettuce or romaine and spinach, but this week was not. I tried a couple things in the BRAT diet and the toast didn't work and the applesauce tasted bad, so I just didn't eat until I could get some plain soda crackers. I did okay with them. What is odd is I just can't get enough water now and I am not a big drinker.

Good for you... Take it one day at atime. A lot of time I take it down to 4 hours at a time.
As it is so easy being a diabetic to eat the wrong things, if I can help in any way let me know.
Maybe we can check in more often to help each other out. Whatever works.
Working on eating as healthy as I can and eating more often see if that helps me.
Good luck to us...

Naomi- it don't matter how many times we start over, as long as we start over.
I know I'm not perfect at this challenge but sure a lot better then before. I have been drinking advant edge for when I have cravings, they don't go away, plus it is only one carb choice. 15
grams. Atleast you come to a good place as we all understand.

Sue, My thoughts and prayers are going to you and your mom. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Meredith- that is so true how we can obsess over food. It can be like a drug. I do so much better when it is not in house. Out of sight out of mind. Good for you being so so strong.

Darlene, do you have IBS? That is how I was the first 3 years of my IBS. I had to give up all lettuce after 3 years, I started eating it slowly. Even now I space it out how many times I have it. Plus raw veggies was another one that was hard on me.. Oh the pain. I have a med that I take if I have a flare up. I call it my miracle pill.

I have a slip now and then, but I work to hard to fall into a guilt trip. I'm working on a clean plate challenge. It is all about your plate being healthy.
I'm so glad we can help each other. I love to learn new ideas from others. And know I have someone who understands....how many doctors did I go to that just did not get it..
So thank you team...

I am currently having a problem. After the salad last week I got sick and stayed that way through Friday (not really bad, but enough). Took immodium so I was okay Friday night and Saturday, then Sunday woke up really bad and that stayed through Monday. So I have had water, crackers, a tiny bit of applesauce and potatoes. That got my stomach again. Tonight I may try some canned soup and see if I can handle that. I am not sure what I can eat, but the protein is currently out.

Anyone know what you do when you shouldn't eat all those carbs, but you can't eat anything else?

Sue, I hope your mom gets better soon. I drink decaf and put a touch of cinnamon, sometimes even a little unsweetened cocoa in it. It gives me the coffee taste and doesn't seem to mess with my blood glucose levels.

NOMIS1, distraction is a good strategy. Hopefully the compulsion will pass.

I am doing okay on the challenge, though not perfect either. We were out at a dinner party this weekend and I took exactly two bites of my husband's dessert. But that was it. And my nutritionist said it was okay for me to have a piece of dark chocolate if it fit into my carb budget, so I had a small piece Friday night and really savored it with no ill effect on my blood glucose. The challenge for me is having that bag of dark chocolates in the house without losing control. So far, so good; I haven't had another piece since. The moment I start obsessing about it, though, in the garbage it goes.

Otherwise have been eating healthfully and well, and continuing to lose weight. I hope everyone else is doing okay!

-Meredith

I came here as a distraction as I really want to eat. I keep telling myself that the feelings won't kill me but the eating will.

I will have a cup of tea and read little to calm myself down. If need be I will be back here again.

I had stopped drinking coffee, but my mother is in the hospital with the flu, pneumonia, and possible heart complications, and when I went in there yesterday I really felt I needed something to pick me up and as a treat, and they were selling coffee in the hospital lobby (and one of my favorite brands). So I had some, and now I want more today.

I think it raises my blood pressure and blood glucose. I don't consider it as bad as sweets or junk food, but it's probably better for me not to drink it.

Aaargh, there's always something!

Thanks for being there, team!

Sue, good for you passing on the choc and doughnuts I know it is so hard. But it only last a min to eat, and we pay how long to get our numbers back in order. The more times I turn things down, the easier it is getting.
Sue you helped me a lot about facing this terrible diseases as diabetes and what it does to our bodies eating the enemies. Sometimes I think I'm in a huge denial.......
I made a calendar of when I stayed strong on the no junk challenge and when I have given in. What I ate...It has helped me look back. It is nice to see my growth.
Hope everyone I'd doing well?

I visited my parents at their facility today, and brought them a box of dark chocolates, which I love. My mother repeats herself a lot, because she doesn't remember what she's said, and she offered me some of the chocolates about four times. But I stood firm! I love dark chocolates.

Then on the way home, the person I was riding with wanted to stop at Dunkin Donuts. She asked if I wanted anything, and I said no, thanks. Then she ate two doughnuts as we drove home. It was hard, but I'm finding that I can choose now not to put those foods into my body, now that I've seen what it did to me physically to eat as much of those things as I did. I hope I keep that awareness forever!

This challenge is helping a lot!

What is a clean plane challenge (or is it clean plate)? Does that mean everything from scratch?

I still have to get back to working on the 21 day no junk. I mostly stay with it, but have had some rolls or bread at times. Well, except for the cookies the other day when I got upset. Now you can really tell what will trigger my eating. I wonder if at parties I get stressed even if I don't know it. Usually everyone else is getting together with their conversations and I end up munching on something. Christmas Eve I actually ended up talking with my friend's BIL and I think that helped cut down on my munching. Never really thought I'd end up in conversation with him that much.

I just looked up the tea I had found I could drink pretty well without sweetener. Just like always, they have quit making it. I hate it when that happens. I have also noticed in their ingredients list that they all contain soy lechitin. Why would they need that in tea?

Good luck with your checkup, Brenda!

I'm still doing well with the junk food, but also still trying to control my portions and not always succeeding. But my eating is way healthier than before, so I guess I'm making progress.

I started out really well yesterday. Had some of my green chili, then a nice salad. Then I went to the store and got sick. I just cannot have the vegetables like that. I was so upset that I ate cookies. So today I am trying again. I don't have any cookies left, so won't be eating them. I had eggs for breakfast with ham and cheese. I am not sure what to do about vegetables. There are a few I can eat, but definitely not the amounts they always say to have.

I had a cookie today. I had to say I enjoyed it. I went from 2 cookies a day ,to one week.
I don't do chips any more. Choc is still a struggle now and then, but when I stay focused I do fine. I have been getting walking in everyday. That has helped a lot. Still working on getting enough water, that is something I always have to work on.
Hope everyone is having a good day.....

Darlene- I so agree, no one does understand until you live as a diabetic. I have done my homework to what is good and bad. It has taken me a few years to fully accept being a diabetic I have fought it, in which it has made it a lot harder on me.... But now I'm ready to move on and live longer in a healthier lifestyle. I see how much my grandkids love me. So I need to take care of myself.
Junk challenge has been good, today I did slip with a little choc ...Then I got sick. I thought for dumb. So I'm done doing that to me. It is not worth it.
I lost -1.8 lbs this week so it must be working...

Wishing everyone a good weekend.. Stay healthy

It is often hard to get others to understand what you can or cannot eat when you have diabetes. I even had a friend with it who would argue that I could have things I wasn't supposed to have and couldn't have things that were okay to have. So that will make it hard to try to go to eat with friends. I just know that I need to start eating better again and I need to figure out what kinds of veggies I can handle.

Yesterday I went to the food pantry and came home with quite a few things, though there were several things that were high carb. Most of those places have high carb for most things, but it is better than the food bank that has ONLY high carb. At the pantry we can choose what we can eat and they often get donations of milk, meat (got a steak yesterday), salads, cheese, salsa, sometimes eggs. Yesterday they had cases of juice and mashed potato mix (I know, not very good). They also get fresh produce, but that is usually already bad. I at least have quite a bit to eat for a while and can work to stay away from the junk food places. It helps me to be able to afford the veggies in the stores, too.

Darlene- you got some good groceries. I know when I plan ahead I do a lot better. You are doing good. As long as we do baby steps, it is when we totally give up when we are in trouble.
Stay strong.

Sue- veggies is a trick to me as they still have grams. I have learn to try different veggies. No starchy ones. I think I cried when I gave up peas and corn. It was like giving up a friend I don't need. You have taught me in a short time. How diabetes is a serious issue. I need to eat more healthy.

Today was okay. I caught myself just wanted to grab things that I do not need
Have a good weekend...

Sue, the one fruit or vegetable is the way I still have a tendency to eat, but I am trying to do better.

Yesterday I was really bad with my eating. I had one meal with some natural lunch meat and cheese and I think that is all the protein I had. I tried to eat some beets but couldn't handle them. So today I am really tired and was pretty weak while I was out shopping so I had a Whopper Junior. Fast Food. Bad. At least it had lettuce and tomato on it. I am going to try to fix a chicken breast for dinner, or at least part of one. Then will be making soup and green chili since I now have all the ingredients other than the enchilada sauce since I decided it was cheaper to try to make some myself.

Brenda, thanks for the encouraging words! I heard on the radio this morning that many, maybe the majority, of Americans eat only one fruit and one vegetable per day. That used to be me a lot of the time! So I really am eating in a much healthier way. It's good to have those moments of realization, when I see how I'm doing now compared with before.

Have a great day, everyone!

I didn't do too well staying away from candy today, but it was a dark chocolate bar with 70% cocoa. I think I can control things with that kind. I was at the store that has some good produce and low prices. They had asparagus on sale, and tomatoes, avocados, oranges and strawberries. I also got chicken and pork roast so I can make green chili or chicken soup for this weekend when it will be snowing. I have to get some green chili to make the one and enchilada sauce for one kind of soup. I have been trying to think of what I can manage to have and do a bit better on the challenge.

With practices on Thursday and Friday I am going to have to either have late lunch or early dinner. Probably will have late lunch since I usually eat a little bit late dinner.

Sue- I know it's a change working with portions as before I just ate.. But I do a lot better when I use my design plates that will give me success. Plus it keeps me thinking on my food groups . Good luck on what works for you. Just know you are eating better now then before the diabetes.

Darlene- I thinking learning what to eat and how much is a trick and a lot to learn, but we are committed to get it right. The hardest thing for me is the fruit... I love fruit.....
Good for you on resisting the candy.. It will get easier right.??

BeccaBoo- welcome!!! Start your 21 day no junk challenge when your ready.

MEREDITH- thanks for the chip receipe, I will make them for the Super Bowl. I'm going to have a successful day, as I'm planning to make sure I have good for me.

Today, was a good day. But I had a few weak moments, but I made some healthy choices. I wanted some toast or a cookie... I made a smoothie. 15 grams instead. 3:00pm is my hardest time of the day. I thought oh no when I get to the bank to clean, with all the choc. I maybe in trouble I was busy talking to people,I did not think about the choc till it was after supper..
Have a good day tomorrow. We are stronger then we think.

That sounds interesting to try. On Rachael Ray today she made some potato skins that were filled with a buffalo turkey chili or something like that. She used something like 96% lean ground turkey breast (said 99% but I don't think you can get it that lean), the chili seasonings, onion, etc. and hot sauce to fill the scooped out potato skin. Instead of a dip she put some blue cheese and cheddar crumbles on top. For me it looked like it would make a nice meal. Of course, I eat weird things, like soup or chili for breakfast which I might be on Sunday since it is supposed to be cold and snowy again. She also did a vegetable chili if you can have that with black beans and butternut squash.

What are your strategies for Super Bowl? I am making cauliflower ranch chips that I can dip in guacomole and eating a reasonable dinner. Hopefully the cauliflower chips will make me feel like I'm not left out. Recipe:

Caulifower Ranch Chips

by: Christi Silbaugh

1 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 cup grated raw cauliflower
1/2 tsp parsley
1/2 tsp basil
1/2 tsp dill
1/2 tsp chives
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp pepper

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Add all ingredients to a bowl.
Line a baking sheet or stone with parchment paper.
Place about 1 TBSP of mixture on prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.
Bake at 450 degrees for 5- 7 minutes.
Remove and turn cauliflower chips over.
Bake for another 5 -7 minutes.

I've tried the crackers when my stomach is upset, but then I overeat them. Crazy, huh? I don't know anyone who can't stop eating crackers when they have them. Yesterday I had a couple biscuits to settle my stomach. I did okay after them until I had dinner, then ended up with too much for my stomach to handle even though it was possibly less than what they usually tell people to have at a meal. You look at those diet things and they say a cup of this vegetable or that vegetable, 3-4 ounces of meat and at least half a cup of a grain product and if the vegetable is mixed greens you add other veggies on top of that. I had maybe 1/2 cup of beets, 4 ounces ground beef and a small tomato. I was going to have applesauce to try to have 3 servings of veggies and fruit, but there was no way I could manage that. I was already having problems before, so no way could I have any fruit or veggie before.

I did resist the candy I wanted the other day. And I have stayed away from things like ice cream, which is what I went overboard on back in 2013, so I think I am doing better.

Good for you on resisting that ice cream cake. I am not sure I could do that.

I love the saying "Progress, not perfection." I tend to expect myself to be perfect, and I'm NEVER anywhere near perfect! You're right, Brenda; I wouldn't berate a friend for not being perfect; why would I do it to myself?

Portions are still giving me problems, but I'm doing well with not having junk food. One step at a time, I guess!

Brenda, that's great that you turned down the ice cream!

Good Morning. For my upset stomach a few crackers help my stomach problems. This challenge is going better then the first time, I can tell I'm a lot more stronger. I will make my mistakes. But I brush it off and move on. No more guilt for me. I won't treat my friend like that why do I do it to me? I'm learning to treat myself better.
Looking forward to the rest of this challenge. Thank you for joining me.

I started today out pretty good. I have had two pieces of sausage and my tea. I did have some stomach problems so I got one roll to settle my stomach. For some reason that seems to help it and I didn't want any more problems while my friend and I were out and about. I am not too sure what to do about dinner tonight, but I will think of something, I'm sure.

Sue- I love my small plates. I have a few so I don't get bored.
Darlene- Start the challenge when your ready. I started it when I was not ready. Just did my best and soon I was in the challenge. I always have snacks with me, even when I clean the bank on weekends, it keeps me from not grabbing things that are not on my food plan.
I pack things like string cheese, few crackers, turkey and veggies, yogurt. It is always good to have a plan. Plus when you get home it is a proud feeling.
Meredith- I have candy dishes I pass every day. I was terrible at stopping, and grabbing a few here few there. I have found out once I start I need more. Now I can say, I don't stop. The first few weeks was hard. I would talk to myself... I can do this, just keep walking, just for today I will not have choc. Do what works for you.

I had a awesome day today. I stayed strong. I only ate what was on my food plan for the day.
I hope tomorrow I can do it again tomorrow. It is in my control see what happens.
I'm sorry proud of us. It is hard when your a diabetic.. I'm learning it is about except it alittle more as I go.

I am doing well with the challenge. I've been weighing and measuring most of the time and pack my lunch and snacks for the day when I leave for the office. I've done well with eliminating evening munchies (except one night). But I do soooo want a piece of chocolate - nice dark chocolate. The problem is, I've never been able to stop at one piece before. So I need to get it out of my mind. Any suggestions for distractions?

I haven't really gotten started on my second 21 days yet. For some reason I wanted potato chips yesterday and got a small container. I don't ever eat them anymore.

I am wondering, what would you do if you are going to practices 2 days a week and one of those days is a rush to get there because there are also craft classes you want to attend. Craft class goes till 5:30 and it is an hour drive to the practice at 6:30. Do I just take something like the meat, cheese, lettuce I took to Stock Show? (also had sliced tomato, but that can get too messy) I think I will have to leave the classes early anyway.

Brenda, I'm going to use a smaller plate, too. Thanks for the reminder!

My portions also need a recheck. Going back to my plates. I have 5 different plates I use to keep a handle on my portions. I went back to the reg dishes. I see my smaller plates are worth using😀
Today, I'm going to have a successful day. Going to walk, I can not wait till spring is here, we can walk outside. I have plan my meals for the day. It does not included no junk food.
Wishing everyone a successful day.."

My day went well. I stayed home all day, so there was no temptation! My portions seem to be creeping up a little bit, though, so I'm going to have to watch that.

I'm doing okay. I can always do better. Looking forward to this 2nd Challenge. My girlfriend lost 5lbs last 21 days on the challenge.
A lot of times I grab things, and stop myself as before I would not give it a second thought just eat it.
Hope everyone has a good weekend. Stay Strong We Are Worth It...

I guess I am about ready to start the 2nd 21 days since I have gotten rid of most of the stuff I shouldn't be having. When at the Stock Show I did have some pop, but that was all this time (I went again on free day). I really wanted to get some fudge, just one piece, but I guess God didn't want to let me because every time I went over there the place was crowded. Cost kept me away from a lot of other things that looked good, though I was just being curious most of the time. They had one thing (can't remember the name) that is a deep fried sweet bread thing (is waffle shaped but has complete holes through it) that they had toppings for and wanted $12.50 for one. Totally ridiculous. Haven't ever had one of those, either. Those temptations are gone now for sure. I will be having lunch with a friend tomorrow and not too sure where that will be, but I will try to keep to stuff that isn't bad for me.

When I was growing up I don't think this challenge would have been so hard for me. I didn't used to eat candy the way I have recently or drink pop, and eating just one piece of cake was easy for me. I think stress got to me after I grew up and now I really have trouble trying to stop when I have something like that or even bread. Anyone know any ideas what to do when you are stressed or upset by something that will keep you from eating junk food? I am really likely to go out and buy the junk if I don't have it here at home and I have been upset by something.

Sue.. Thank you for sharing a part of you... I feel that's how we grow in our journey. My husband stopped drinking 28 years ago. So I get what your saying we can l live without drinking alcohol, but we still have to eat. Good for you staying away from the sweets.

For me it is getting a lot easier.. Mainly not eating candy at work. It is hard walking pass 7 candy dishes. Now I just try not looking that way... Or stop and talk to someone to get my mind off the candy.
Looking forward to a successful 21 days..

I'm wishing us all well in the second go-round of the challenge!

Thanks for the kind words, Brenda! It just occurred to me that I can use a strategy for not eating sweets and junk that worked for me with quitting drinking. I stopped drinking 28 1/2 years ago, and at first I just didn't allow my mind to stray into thinking about drinking. I didn't walk down the booze aisle of the supermarket, and I stayed out of places where people were drinking. After a while, my mind just naturally didn't go there, and for many years I've had absolutely no desire to drink -- the option is just not there, in my mind or in my desires.

I'm gradually finding myself doing a similar thing with sweets and junk, though I have to admit I'm more tempted by those than I was by booze. The last time I shopped, I avoided the candy aisle, and I'm starting to shut the idea of eating those things out of my thinking. I hope it works the way it did with alcohol abstinence. If I let my mind go there, then it might start to try to justify having them, and that's a slippery slope.

I also helps to have a very powerful reason to abstain from those substances, as I had with alcohol. I want to live a normal lifespan in a healthy way!

I can't wait to see our improvement.
Sue. Good for you noticing on looking at dessert recipes is not in your best interest..
But is hard. Some times it's like. I want to eat like a normal person. Then I realize it is not a in the cards. So brush myself off,eat as healthy as I can.
Good luck everyone.. Do baby steps and we will get big results...

I'll start again on Thursday, too. Things have been going well, though I made the mistake of looking at a cooking magazine today and found myself extremely tempted by the dessert recipes. But I'm telling myself I value my health and the prospect of a long life more than the taste of a sweet dessert. And I really do!

have a good evening, teammates!

Good Afternoon
Tomorrow is day 21. I will start day 1 on Thursday. I was not going to start again right away but I know me. I will think that will give me the right to binge. I'm not setting myself up for the failure.
My husband had a doughnut... It looked so good.. I grabbed a orange instead. Plus I put my book up so I couldn't see it.. Out of sight out of mind.
I have had a few slips this 21 days, but I'm going to have a better success on this next 21 days.
I even bake a cake and brownies for my husband, and left them alone before this challenge I would never think I could do it... But just for today I won't have junk food.
When we slip just move on. The guilt is not worth carrying around...
This been the best challenge for me.. Thank you everyone

I will work on this challenge again. I might not manage everything, but I can work on it and manage most of it. I think chocolate won't be a completely limited, but won't eat it like I did Saturday.

I'm doing well with this except for maybe Saturday night. I got the fierce munchies, and have no idea why. I probably ate 1.5 cups of popcorn and a bunch of nuts - too many nuts. So, the composition of the extra-curricular eating changed for the better, but maybe not the number of extra calories! It was my first slip in a while though, and I got right back on the wagon. Probably because I knew I had to confess here - the challenge is working!

Sue, oh this challenge has really help me to. Where I use think about grabbing now at times I don't even give it a thought. But I still have some days, where I slip. Nothing is perfect, but I sure have came along ways.. But it is team work, and someone who gets it....

Darlene, you learned from it. Before you may not have gave it a second thought. So your aware. Just don't be hard on yourself and move on. I know the more carbs I eat the more I crave.

Wed is the last day of the 21 no junk food challenge. But ready to,do it again. Looking forward to see if I can have better Feb. we always can improve. Still not grabbing choc at work.
Just for today. Stay Strong... For a better you!!!

Last night and today were definitely off program. They had goodies at the class I went to and I partook of them. Bad, Bad Darlene. Got to stop that.
