Birgit and Croyle, what do you do on the LCHF diet if you are having problems with fat? I mean I have problems with liver and gall bladder and sudden really bad IBS-D if I eat fat nowadays. Can't eat higher carbs, either, though this weekend I did and IBS did fine, probably not BS. Do I try more protein?

I have been of insulin now for 28 months and of diabetic meds for the last three months. I do take cinnamon tablets 500 mg before my meals and I fast two days a week 16/8. I also put cinnamon on my oatmeal. Check out DR. Jason Fung. He has videos. I found out about him Last June and wished I knew about him 6 years ago. I believe if I did I would have been off insulin a lot sooner. I do not follow the ADA diet. I follow LCHF an it works for me. BS runs in the 80's and 90's. last AlC was in Jan and it was 5.7 net one in Jun

I love cinnamon and add it to my chia pudding for breakfast or snacks which is almost carb-free. It's tasty stuff and is good with chili as well.
I think it makes a difference for people who have already cut out most carbs (grains, beans, sugars, processed foods, potatoes, corn) in improvng blood sugar. As long as people eat all that stuff cinnamon won't make much difference. It's simply too many carbs.

I haven't tried it, but I like cinnamon on or in things. Almonds sounds good as mentioned below. I am willing to try both together. Yum. I need something for the evening, so I am not snacking that is carb.

I've seen both ways with the cinnamon -- helping some and not helping others. I have tried that and chromium, but don't know if it has helped or not. I also read it needs to be the ceylon cinnamon as opposed to the store cinnamon. I don't know what kind is in the capsules I got, but the last cinnamon I got was from a special spice shop and I got the ceylon so that if it does help I can use that kind if I make something with cinnamon in it.

I also just read that garcinia cambogia is helpful. I don't know about any of them. My doctor hasn't ever been against any of them, though. I would like to know if you have any luck using the cinnamon capsules.

Thank you, Pat! That's really helpful. I'm going to take a look.

I wanted to be off medications and I do diet and exercise and I am doing great.
Do not think that diet and exercise is not a great idea it is.

Cinnamon is not the only food to help lowering blood sugar. Using food is easier than pills. ALMONDS also lower my FBS I eat them before I go to bed.

If you look on the internet and ask "what foods lower blood sugar "you might find a list of them Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon to be off the meds.

I took cinnamon (2 caps twice a day) for a number of years but did not notice any difference to my numbers. Maybe I was not taking enough??? I don't know.....

You can add cinnamon to various dishes including cooked cereal, scrambled eggs or french toast, add to fruits, into smoothies, whatever you can think of. But if you are thinking about eating it by the teaspoon, I would advise caution. Cinnamon is very fine - almost like a fine dust - and people have chocked on it..... Capsules are safer. Just my opinion.......

My doctor actually recommended cinnamon, though he didn't mention capsules. I did some reading and some articles said that Ceylon cinnamon works better than the type of cinnamon sold on the spice racks. I ordered a lot of it, so I have to use it! I don't know if it works -- I haven't seen any drastic changes, but my numbers aren't very high anyway unless I eat simple carbs. I'm doing it just in case!

I have not. I would be interested in knowing if they work. I would take them.

Has anyone in the group tried cinnamon capsules to control their blood sugar? If so, what amount do you take and how often do you take them? How much do they help? My doctor took me off all meds and now I have to manage this disease with diet and exercise and am looking into adding cinnamon capsules, if they work.
