I have the same problem with fasting blood glucose levels in the morning. I've found that if I don't eat after 9:00 pm and have a light string cheese around ten my FBS is lower in the morning.

There is something called the dawn phenomenon and basically body tells the liver that the glucose levels are getting too low so the liver dumps glucose into the bloodstream.

Many, many people experience this. Usually taking a snack of about 15 grams of carbs combined with at least 7 grams of protein will help alleviate the problem. This could be an ounce of cheese with 6 saltines, or a half apple with some peanut butter, etc. Check out the article here on Spark for a list of possible snacks.

Not sure what your snack grams are, but whatever it is, it appears to be working.

I am having problems with my fasting number. This is the highest of the day, usually over 140. The rest of the day is anywhere from 89 to 120. The doctor told me to take another pill with dinner. I did and the number soared to 174. I stopped the med and it dropped. Am now eating 1/2 cup cereal and peanut butter crackers before bed. Fasting number is dependent on time I eat this snack. The latter the better. Doc unhappy that I stopped second pill. Has any one have/had this problem and how did you correct it?
