I think you are right about adding the gatorade. Once I get to the point of chills, it seems like all the water I drink goes straight through me and doesn't help me feel better. It must be an electrolyte thang.

Amy I had the EXACT same thing, except I had mastitis with the malnutrition/dehydration. Taking a shower was the only thing that got me warm when I got the chills. I now keep a 32 oz cup next to me at all times filled with 28oz water and 4oz gatorade for electrolytes. It helps! ....sometimes.

YES! I'm starving almost all the time! The weight is slowly coming off on its own still so I haven't been too worried about snacking when I get the chance. Normally granola bars, peanut butter, lots of fruit, some carrots and hummus, cheese slices, yogurt, and the occasional peanut butter cup.

I have gotten really sick a couple of times and I think it's because of severe dehydration/malnourishment. Like fever, chills, muscle aches/cramps, exhaustion, headache type sick. The doctors couldn't find an infection or virus, so I'm pretty sure it's just because I wasn't taking care of myself while the kid was sucking me dry. All you mamas be sure to drink lots of water and eat good food, not just for your baby but for you too.

I dont snack. When I get hungry I'll eat a small meal so that I am full longer and can have more time and energy for my LO. But protein shakes would be great. Or a snack high in protein, like apples and peanut butter.. or some type of dairy.

I totally agree with you, my hunger is greater now than it was when I was pregnant. I have lost my baby weight but, like you, my midsection is not where I would like it to be. It is so odd, my weight is down but my body shape is sadly far from where I would like it to be. I need to be more aware of healthy snacks, for the first couple of weeks of bf I was craving anything sweet! I am trying to stick with fruit when I get a craving and find when I get hungry to eat something with protein helps

Hi Hun,

I am not there yet but as far as healthy snacks - strong cheese, fat free or low fat cottage cheese with fruit, a healthy bowl of cereal with fruit, fat free popcorn, veggie chips from whole foods or trader joes, some high fiber bars, all fruit which I love frozen grapes. hope this helps. and eat when you need to. its all going for a good cause - my wonderful G!!!

Not to the breastfeeding stage... yet... but I remember well. Funny as it sounds, and I am sure I am not telling you something you don't already know, but you definitely need more calories when b/f than when pregnant.

Snacks... hummm? Larabars, greek yogurt, almonds, granola bars, I am loving all the fresh fruit available now, cottage cheese (if you like it)...

How is the b/f going? Is Graham catching on good?

Hey breastfeeding mamas - are the rest of you as hungry as I am? I thought I was hungry during pregnancy! Sheesh. I'm just famished all the time now. While I was trying to keep weight gain to a minimum during pregnancy, I wasn't as concerned about watching calories. I know I shouldn't be worried now either, but I'd also like to get back to my pre-pregnancy shape. I'm close in terms of weight, but am still carrying a little extra around the middle so that some pants are awfully uncomfortable.

Anyone have any healthy snack suggestions?

Love,
Hillary
