So this might be a little silly - but I am a new runner - and EVERY race I have run - when the finish line is in sight, I have gone into full panic mode - fighting not to hyperventilate, feeling like I am going to throw up. This is definitely a mental thing, not a physical thing. Anyway - yesterday I ran this super fun trail run - it was horrendous conditions, muddy, hot humid. I walked where I needed to, ran where I could. The finish is about half a mile of rolling meadows.....anyway as I came up to the finish, I knew I was fine, had been doing intervals and was moving well.....and DID NOT have those horrible feelings - finished strong, able to speed up a little and got my time goal. Hooray@@

Finished the Davis Moonlight Half Marathon last night. Really well organized run in a Northern California college town. Beautiful course, mostly flat, with a few hills. A litte hot at the beginning, but the temperature dropped with the sun and most of the race was quite pleasant with a consistent breeze. I've been moving from doing 1:1 for the last several years to doing 2:1 and this was the first race I've done at that interval. Was a good decision - I shaved more that 15 minutes off of my time. Did a PR at this distance at 2:47. Now for the hot tub!

Before you do any cutting, try sports massage and/or trigger point therapy. It really helps to lengthen the muscle by releasing the knots and scar tissue that is frequently the source of the problem.

The shot will help my osteoarthritis in the knee but I think for my IT band I will need to have it cut and lengthen, going to ask Dr. about that next time.

Today I ran a personal best 5k at 25:55.
My goal was to run under 27min as my previous PB was 27:15.

DH ran 25:18
DD ran 26:13

My new goal is to run under 25min in a September 5k

June -- Pacific Time Zone
Where you end up is more important than how fast or where you start out.
- Improved fitness and nutrition, energy and confidence are my rewards.
It is our choices...that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.
A PH (personal high) is the main goal, a PB is the sometime icing on the cake.

I ran 16.27 miles today in 3 hours! The farthest AND longest I've ever gone! :)

Went out in 44 degree weather, rain and wind but did my 5k yesterday. My guntime was 39:01, my tagtime was 38:48 and my pace wa 12:30. Considering all things, I'm pretty pleased.

Started running 2 years ago and 3 weeks later ran my 1st 5K in 32:36 pushing the whole way on the course, 2/3rds of which is uphill. Yesterday, had a bad cold and coming off several really exhausting days- went to the race anyway with the plan to take it really easy. No push. No sprint. And still beat my time by 5 seconds, lol, coming in at 32:31.
The victory this year was just showing up and lettin myself run what is now slow for me, compared to 2 yrs ago.
THANKS for all the good luck notes- it helped to keep me from staying home with the box of kleenex and cups of tea! There was plenty of time for that later!

I ran my first 1/2 marathon on Sunday in Lincoln, NE. It was a blast and I ran with a friend from highschool who found me on FB recently. We had a saying, "Band of Brothers!!" She was barely training, so I had to push her. We finished in 2:27. The next one, I know I can do better thanks to everyone on this team and learning about the Jeff Galloway way!!!! Even she said it was better. She thought she was going to run the whole thing. She quickly changed her mind emoticon

It was fun and I can't wait to run another one!!!!!! emoticon emoticon

Completed my first 10K race. I tried the Galloway method -1 min walk/3 min run - for first time in a race. Total time: 1 hour, 8 minutes (way faster than my goal of under 1 hour 15 min). I feel great!

Ran my fastest 5K time, although unofficial - and wasn't even trying - during a BRICK workout last Saturday. I was grinning from ear to ear when I realized what I had done. YEAH ME!

Did my longest run in a time I was pretty happy with! 13.1 miles in 2 hrs 24 mins!

My latest victory is running the Just A Short Run in Pittsburgh with other Sparkpeople, not my best time but I did 2/2 and only had trouble after 2.5 miles!!! I had my MRI on Monday and will find out on Thursday what is up, hopefully I can be back up to running soon.

Dee, you are faster than you think. No one has "one speed." It all depends on how far you have to go. So far, all of your running has been endurance distances. Everyone has to slow down, relatively speaking, to go those distances. I think you'll find yourself much faster in the short races where you don't have to "save your legs" for long haul. You just need to race these shorter distances a few time to get a feel for the different pacing.

Had a successful experience with my first 10k. I'm trying to hold onto the feeling instead of immediately comparing myself to others and belittling what I've accomplished because I'm slower.

Sheryl Good job getting back to running. I agree with the idea that you use a ratio with more walking. Galloway has a Getting stated book. His 5K/10K book has a real gentle conditioning program. You start with 5 sec of running and 55 sec of walking and works up to 15 sec of running and 45 sec of running over 8 weeks. Or is you felt fine with 15 sec of running 45 sec of walking you can start the 5K to finish program that will have you doing 30 sec running/ 30 sec of walking at the end of 7 weeks.

Since I am in therapy for my knee (torn meniscus) I am patting myself on the back for "trying" to run, using 3/1 method but that is to much. A friend suggested that I try 1/4 so I am going in reverse but I will do anything to get back to my old running self again.

On Sunday I ran my longest to date, 8 miles in 1:35.

On Tuesday PR'd the 5K distance from 32:10 to 29:37.

I ran the Austin 1/2 marathon using Galloway with my two older children and my son who wasn't a believer, but didn't train the way he wanted ran with my daughter and I and was shocked that it wasn't slacking like he initially thought! lol

I successfully ran HM #2 (Princess) using the Galloway method the entire 13.1 miles. HM #1 I was stupid and ran the first 5 miles straight running and paid for it dearly in the end. AND I actualy met and talked with jeff Galloway at the Princess expo. So freaking awesome!!!!
