I agree the hop on hop off tour buses are great in any city I have been to. Also, do check out the Danube.

I have not been to Vienna but those are my thoughts.

How very exciting.

Jane

I visited Vienna in September 2015. It is a beautiful city. A Hop on Hop Off bus is a good way to see any city. The Schönbrunn Palace is exquisite, but if you only have a day, I would suggest instead touring the Hofburg Imperial Palace which is more in the center. The imperial jewel collection is worth visiting within that complex, and we also went to a session of the Lipizzaner stallions morning practice (it isn't the show, but at least you get to see the horses going through their paces). We did the "Vienna Food Walk" (you can find on Tripadvisor) - fabulous early evening tour. I am not an adventurous eater, but was able to enjoy everything along the way. The guides were delightful, and we also got to see a lot of Vienna walking around. They will take you to great eateries you would never find on your own. Another fun, unique food experience is going to Trzesniewski (you can google them) for their open face sandwiches for lunch or a snack. There are about 20 fillings to choose from. There is a shop in the center not too far from the the Hofburg. If you are art lovers, their art museum - Kunsthistorisches Museum. Finally, a bit out of the center but easy to get to by subway is the Belvedere - a wonderful repository of Gustav Klimt art including his famous "The Kiss" as well as other artists.

"This too shall pass."

Hi everyone,

My husband and I are planning a 2-night visit to Vienna in September, from where we are staying in Italy for 3 weeks.

We arrive late on the first night and leave early on the 3rd day, so have one whole day to use looking around Vienna. Do any of you have any experience of this city, any "must-see" sights or recommended places to eat? (We are very plain eaters!)

I know it's a while away, but I'd like some starting points to start planning from if possible!

Thanks
Chelle
