I spent almost a week in Budapest in Dec 2017 and they have their "Christmas Markets" up and about. Lots of stalls with goods to buy (chocolate truffles, wooden children's toys, ceramics, ornaments, lace, scarves, etc), hot mulled cider and other warm alcoholic beverages with plum or cinnamon in them...Christmas music playing...it was a lot of fun, and totally got me in the Christmas spirit.

Midnight dinner consists of :
ragoût de patte de cochon (meatball stew version Quebecoise)
Tourtière (4 meat meat pie again version Quebecoise)
Pâté aux patates (a bit like tourtière but with mashed potatoes in)
Roasted turkey
mashed potatoes
christmas log (rolled cake)
Sucre à la crème
cookies
donuts

all surrounded by family members.

we used to go to the midnight mass then come back home, have the gifts then eat.

Now we usually can't do it that night (kids have in-laws and so many familly to juggle) but we still get all thogether somewhere between Christmas and new year to share gifts and a nice meal

Many Filipinos have a very large paper star that they hang up. It is very pretty. We have a lot of Filipino families here.

Around the world there are many wonderful ways to celebrate the holidays. What are some of your favorite holiday traditions from other cultures and other countries?

Personally, I love the Mexican Christmas traditions of the posada (re-enacting the journey of Joseph and Mary to seeking to find room at the inn), and luminarias.
