I just went through all my Medifast food and I have enough to go 92 days. I started my Medifast journey last October with not enough education. I got all the information but barely glanced at it. Still I made it to December 24 with a 33 pound loss in 8 weeks but then thought I could take a week off...........biggest mistake ever. I am a carb addict and I will start back Monday really acknowledging who I am, what I want and knowing there is not a finish line. Medifast is just the source that will get me started down the road to health, controlling my mistakes and forever watching, changing, and growing in knowledge of where I can go in my relationship to food. I do not plan on buying Medifast forever but learn to eat better what is available in the real world. I have struggled with chronic sinus and other inflammatory issues and I must learn how to feed a healthy body. Medifast is not a perfect avenue. It does not all taste delicious but it can with careful planning be modified to be a great weight loss source. I will go through a weeks worth of food preparation at a time and from my lean and green add a little extra chicken and broccoli to the Mac and Cheese, etc. The busier I stay with my Medifast work, journaling my thoughts, rough patches, etc. seems to help the days go by and I love writing down the gifts that will be coming to me with my success. There are so many. Being able to climb stairs and work out more comfortably, reaching down to paint my toes, and not being exhausted in the afternoons are just a few that I know will come. I am taking this time and expense for me so I have more to give. I can't wait for my after post as I've seen others on Spark do in improving my fitness, going places I didn't dare before. I wish I had been as prepared before but my better start is just a day away.

I add Hot water to the packet instead of cold...Let sit 5 mins. and then micro...You can add
Ketchup; low Sodium Soy, or any legal condiment but count the condiment. Tastes a

Syenne1 are you cooking the soft bakes in your microwave or the regular oven? I haven't had any trouble in the microwave, but I haven't tried the regular oven.

I absolutely have to add salt to the mac and cheese. Maybe I'm not supposed to, but I can't eat it otherwise. I'm not putting int on any future orders. Yuck.

I did find if you cook it just a little longer than it says, and then let it sit with a lid on it, it thickens a little. After the last cooking time that the instructions say, stir it and let it stand another minute, then cook it another 30 seconds to a minute. Then finally stir one more time, put a lid on it, and let it sit 3-5 minutes.

I certainly will try the trick to avoid lumps in the hot drinks. I've dumped two cups of chai because I couldn't make myself drink it so full of lumps.

Another great thing to add to the soups is the low sodium soy sauce you are allowed, or... if your weigh in day isn't too close, add a little salt, makes a huge difference. I say if your weigh in day isn't too close because the less salt you eat, the less water you'll retain, but if you have two or three days before weigh in, you'll have time to lose the water before then.

Urlasa, this is Medifast, not optifast... and you really don't need a diet supplement on it. They do offer vitamin supplements, and have some thermogenic drinks like the calorie burn cappuccino.

Any advice on how to make the mac and cheese better? It was very runny and just so bland.

Any advice on how to not mess up the soft bakes? I burnt the first one then the second try at the soft bake it looked like a depleted balloon although it tasted ok.

The Quick Start Guide doesn't list all of the lean/green/condiment options. Go to TSFL.com, look in the Knowledge Center, click Downloads on the left side, then scroll down to the list of Nutritional Information links.

Eggs and cheese are fine, when used appropriately.

FCUMMINGS: While I think we all appreciate your concern, if you joined the team just to post this then you need to leave.

As for your "sources," the LiveStrong website claims that it does not help you change your eating habits and I think most, if not all, here will disagree. Your second source states that it does not know/understand how people come off the diet but those on Medifast that have achieved a healthy weight will have learned the tools required of them to gradually leave the products completely and successfully continue their newly acquired healthy lifestyle.

Lastly, everyone should speak to their doctor before beginning ANY diet/exercise plan, so start being SUPPORTIVE to your friend and suggest they speak with their doctor to determine the right course for THEM. Your blatant negativity is not helping anyone.

I have been reading about this diet because one of my best friends is thinking about doing it, and honestly, I don't think it's a very safe way to lose weight. The calorie restrictions are too severe and can lead to a gall bladder attack and other health issues. If you are having a difficult time doing this diet, my advice is to STOP and find a healthier program that allows you to consume at least 1,200 calories a day.

My husband and I are getting ready to start Medifast, and I found your post VERY helpful, especially for knowing what foods to order initially. I need all the help I can get with this, which is why I joined this group. I'm going to encourage to hubby to get involved too. I think he's going to have a harder time adjusting initially. Anyway, thanks so much for the post. emoticon

I'm coming to the end of my first MF week. I have a question. I see in this tip thread that someone posted: "12. You must keep your carbs below 100 a day to stay in ketosis. It is optimal for weight loss to keep them between 80 to 85. Utilize the My Plan page so you can keep a lookout on the carbs. I find I lose faster when I keep mine between 70 and 80. "

I'm having a hard time getting mine above 60. Am I going to stay in ketosis if I'm well below the 80-zone? I've lost 5.5 pounds in my first 6 days, but don't want to bottom out because I'm not eating enough...

This comes at a great time for me. I'm getting ready to re-start, hit a financial snafu starting nursing school this past september (can you say expensive?) Now I have my budget ready for it and I am soo ready to get back to MF! I gained back about 18 pounds during the intermission- not bad for not really trying. So I am motivated harder to get the weight off now, so who knows how fast I can go!

This is a repost from the My Medifast boards, but has lots of great info in it. mfboards.mymedifast.com/showthread.p
hp
?t=62019

A few things that I wish I had known when I started MF and things that work well for me are as follows.

1. It is perfectly fine to split your Lean & Green (L&G). You still do all 5 MF meals. This can help with the hunger by allowing you to eat a little more often.

2. A great lean to use when you're first starting out is the Eggbeaters. One lean serving is 2 full cups. This is a lot of egg so it makes 2 nice sized portions. You will find Eggbeaters listed under the Meatless Options on the My Plan page. I also find I lose faster if I use Eggbeaters as my lean a few times a week.

3. The shakes are much better when you make them in a blender and add some ice.

4. To avoid lumps in the hot drinks, puddings and cream soups, add just a little bit of water first and stir with a fork into a paste until smooth. Then gradually add the rest of the water.

5. The soups are all much better if you allow them to soak - especially the chili. If you don't soak the chili the beans will be like bullets. I hated it the first time I tried it but love it now.

6. All of the soups and the eggs are better with a little Tabasco sauce. Some people also add boullion to the soups.

7. Don't overcook the eggs. It makes them rubbery. Pull them out of the microwave while they still look a little runny because they will continue to cook after you pull them out.

8. If you are on thyroid meds, eat a non-soy product for your first two meals because soy disrupts the absorption of the thyroid medications. Hot drinks, cream soups, and Momentum products are all non-soy, along with the eggs and tropical punch and teas.

9. Drinking the water is an essential part of the weight loss process. You need to drink the water in order to flush the fat and ketones from your system. MF says 64 oz but there is another school of thought that says to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces. I lose much faster when I drink 1/2 my body weight in ounces. .

10. If you're a big diet soda drinker, cut them way back. No more than 3 a day but I would personally recommend no more than one. Diet sodas can stall your weight loss.

11. MF recommends to abstain from exercise your first 3 weeks unless you were already exercising. If you were already exercising, cut your exercise intensity and duration in half. If you feel fine, a nice healthy walk never hurt anyone.

12. You must keep your carbs below 100 a day to stay in ketosis. It is optimal for weight loss to keep them between 80 to 85. Utilize the My Plan page so you can keep a lookout on the carbs. I find I lose faster when I keep mine between 70 and 80.

13. If you find you are losing slowly, check how many crunch bars you are eating. Not everyone can tolerate the new crunch bars. When I added them into my meal plan, I went into a 2 week stall. I cut them out and dropped 7.3 pounds in 8 days. So just some food for thought if your weight is not dropping like you think it should be. Crunch bars can also cause stomach cramping and bad gas in some people.

14. Sipping on hot boullion is on plan and is a great crutch if you get hungry. Just sip on it slowly and it will take the edge off of your hunger. It also helps with headaches, dizziness and hunger in the first week. Any kind of boullion will do.

15. The Vanillia Shake is a great substitute for cream in the coffee. Make sure you mix it up first before adding it to your coffee. When you're thru with your coffee, drink the rest and you have one MF meal accounted for.

16. If you don't like some of the foods, put them away for a few weeks and revisit them later. Your taste buds will change and you may find you like them later on.
