I went out today for my walk/run but was so tired all I could do was walk. I walked 90 minutes but now I know why I was tired, sore throat, headache, etc, not looking good emoticon

I'm an oddball -- I don't use any particular method to run. One day, a few years ago, I just walked a little faster until it became a trot. And I've been trotting ever since! I have a 5K coming up later this month and I haven't run a race since this time last year. Right now I'm trying to log as many outdoor miles as I can to get used to running in the chill again.

I just did a "practice 5k" around my neighborhood using Galloway's method with :30/:30 intervals. I was sloooow. 48 minutes! A true penguin. I didn't feel tired at all or out of breath. Next time, I'm going to try :40/:20 intervals and compare how I feel, time etc. I think I will listen to some upbeat music instead of an audiobook. I bet the music will help me pick up the pace some too. I used to run 5k's in about 30 minutes. I want to get close to that because I know I can.

Got back from our two week road trip Sun.
Mon I walked 3 min and ran 2 for one hour and then walked 15 min.
Everyday I have added an additional five min. Four days in a row!

I just checked Galloway's book out of the library so I can read more about it because I hear so many good things about it.

Actually, we are in a similar place in our running/walking. I have been walking at least 3 miles a day and am doing the c25k right now as well. I'm starting wk4 today. I also like Jeff Galloway's method of running which alternates between walking and running. It might be a good fit for you with your hip problems if you find running 100% of the time difficult.

I just started running about 6 months ago with the c25k but had a harder time when the weather got hot. Then for a couple of months sciatica had me sidelined. Still dealing with it but walking seems to help it and have been walking 3 to 4 1/2 miles most mornings for the past 4 weeks or so. Have started Week 1 again. I'm taking it very slowly and am not going to rush through the weeks and will repeat until I feel I've built a solid base at each week.

I'm just starting back into running. I've been using the c25k program (I'm up to week 4), but I love Galloway's method of interval running. I will probably switch back to that at some point. I just want to know I can run a 5k non-stop. I'm a penguin with an ego!
