So far its been almost a month since I dyed my hair. It hasn't really faded or started to look awful. I have been using a color protecting shampoo/conditioner and spray. I only wash my hair 2x a week which is what I normally did before, unless I felt it needed more washing. Its a little longish and thick and I don't feel I do much to get it dirty.
I found this thing from John Freida which is called Refreshing Gloss or something for reds (I think there is brunette too) and you use it once a week after washing & conditioning your hair and although its not a hair dye I think it adds a little more color and makes it shinier. I used a John Freida hair dye but on the box it says you can use it with other hair dye products and provides a list of the ones that you can use it with. Like depending on if you are a warm red or a cool red, there are names of those hair colors you know. I was a cool red...so far I have only used it twice.
I think a little might have washed out but I really was more worried than the amount of it that washed out. I just thought I would update and share in case someone had the same questions.
Oh and there might be other brands of that gloss stuff but at Walmart in our area its the only one I could find. If you have a mall or CVS, Walgreens type store nearby they might have similar brands with different costs. Or the internet. We live in a small town so we don't have many store to pick from. I was at a salon and actually asked about red color fading, she said it did and just don't overwash it. I am surprised she didn't recommend that kind of product or sell it there...but maybe salons would have such a product too.

Thanks for the replies.
Its been almost a week and I first washed it Thursday and though it lightened a little everyone thinks it still looks really good. My mom said maybe it just settled and when I rinsed it after coloring maybe it didn't all rinse out like it was supposed to.
Depending on the light it looks kind of cool because in some light I am a red head and in other light I have light brown hair.

my hair is a dark brown & I use L'OREAL Excellence HiColor HiLights Copper 2 color my hair & it works great. I was told that dark brown hairs has a hard x retaining the red color, but this product works great.
The roots always absorb the color better than rest of head. If ur hair is thick& is coloring for 1st x, u should leave color on for 40 min, I was told .

Be patient! Things will change 4 the better.

I dyed my hair Sunday night (you can see in my new picture)
I never dyed my hair before, and I am usually a light to medium brown I would say. I wasn't sure if I would look right with red hair but wanted to try it.
I don't know why but for some reason the top of my hair (roots to middle) is very red while the bottom is still kind of brown. I am not sure if I messed it up-I rubbed it in and got everything, left it in 30 minutes.
Also, the box said radiant red, light brown...so I figure maybe it is supposed to look like that? I just thought it would be redder...:/
Anyways, ok my questions:
Is there any way to keep my color from fading fast? I've read that red is hard to maintain...
I got some shampoo & conditioner that are for dyed hair. It was on sale at Walmart but has anyone had success with a specific product?
I am not going to wash my hair for 3 days figuring that will help the dye set in. Also, I tend to wash my hair only 2x a week because I have longish, thickish hair.
I have a pantene spray for red shades to strengthen dyed hair.
I don't blow dry/heat my hair in any way.

Do I look right with reddish brown hair?? I thought it would be redder...would I look ok with a more red shade?
