Yes, I've been taking blood pressure and cholesterol meds. They changed me to Lipitor today. 40 MG.
My exercise has stopped as I fell and broke my wrist last month. Just got the cast off last Wednesday. Once I can move without pain, I'll try and get some exercise going again.

I eat a lot of veggies...cooked and raw...
I eat very little (if any) red meat Use only Olive oil to cook with Sparingly use margarine or salad dressings My numbers seem to be going down slowly and I will continue to keep an eye on it. Are you taking supplements and meds? I walk and keep moving for at least 30 minutes every day. (In 10 minute increments to start with)..I take fish oil and multi vitamins. No other Rx... I have lost a little weight, but not pushing to lose a lot .. just stay healthy and active...Watch what I eat. Vegetables are LOW CALORIE and good too. Hi Everyone,
I just joined because my Drs. office called today to tell me my Cholesterol is 329 and the Tri is 534. I need help. I've been with spark for 2 years. I started out great. Lost 15 lbs and then I got the flu and started eating again. I weigh more now than when I started. What do you eat and what do you stay away from? I love to eat and most of the time I just say, "Oh, who cares?" I know I can't do this anymore or I'll have a stroke. Any help is welcome. Thanks. My name is Judy. I'm 63 and divorced. My two sons still live with me at home. We have a dog and 4 cats. I'm still friends with my ex. He's not very helpful with my dieting. He poo-poos the Dr. We go out to eat a lot. What do you eat when you go out? Not many low cal things on a menu. Anyway, thanks for any help.

Starting my 3rd year on statins, generic Lipitor 40mg/day currently. Tolerating it well:
Total:126 LDL: 63 HDL: 43 Tri: 103
|
|
Cholesterol 195 (down from 237)
HDL 34 (down from 37) LDL 123 (down from 149) TRI 188 (down from 257) I take no meds for cholestrol and eating less red meat, more fish and veggies. Seems to be working. (If I could get the HDL up, i would really be happy, happy) Vivian

As of 2/27/2013 my test results are: Cholesterol, Total= 245; LDL= 156; HDL= 70. I love oatmeal and it has been my daily breakfast staple for years. I have recently stopped overindulging with the butter and cheese. Looking forward to showing some improvement, however slight, when I am retested in 90 days. Most of all, I hope to be under 200 at next year's (2014) physical.

You should really talk to your doctor about it. I have no family history as you do. I buy the Red Yeast Rice at Costco and take1200 mg. In the beginning I was taking 2400 mg but have come down to the 1200. I also still eat the oatmeal most every day. You can buy it anywhere where they sell vitamins. Good luck. Having to be under 70 is a real challenge

Just realized there is a place to track total cholesterol. It's under weight and then under health something.

Yes,definitely, do talk to your docter first. You may have to ween off Crestor. I wasn't on anything so there was no problem.
The good thing about the pills is that they are not a prescription...you can buy them anywhere.

My appt. got rescheduled for the 12th of this month. I requested to be taken off the Crestor (noticing too many things I don't like about it). I wil talk to him about the red yeast rice pills.

My doctor was the one who suggested I go on the red yeast rice. I was skeptical so imagine my surprise when it actually worked LOL Dr. Oz also recommends it. There's supposed to be something in it that's simalar to a statin. Good luck!!

I went from 205 to 183 for total cholesterol. I'm still high on the ldl but it went from 1839 to 1333 mo1/L. (The recommended is below1000) The only change I made in the last 4 months was the oatmeal and 1200 mg Red Yeast Rice.
In 2006 my total chelesterol was 265. It had come down from 288!!! The doctor at that time wanted to put me on a statin but I said I would try to come down through diet. I made some changes, like using olive oil and watching my saturated fats., It took a while, but once I got on the oatmeal and the red yeast rice pills it started coming down a lot quicker.
