Use the "Seven P's of Success" to remove the clutter or frenzy from your mind and your life.

1) Pause to calm your thoughts - you can't focus when your mind is divided by a multitude of thoughts.
2) Permanently record your thoughts in a journal or equivalent tickler so that they can be addressed later - once you properly recorded your thoughts, you can rest assured that you won't forget to address them in due time.
3) Put aside negative thoughts on matters for which you have no control over - it does you no good to dwell negatively on events in the past and current events for which you have no control, concentrate instead on what can be done to mitigate their effect.
4) Prepare the mind for action by relaxation and meditation - a relaxed mind allows for creative thinking.
5) Plan a course of action on matters that you can control to resolve one issue at a time - planning requires self analysis, seeking information from reference resources, and evaluating your choices by discussing your goals with your spouse or trusted friends, and determining what actions can be done immediately to become one step closer towards your goals.
6) Practice your plans into action to test their effectiveness and using the results to guide your future actions - it matters little whether your plans don't work at first or not, what matters is that you have a positive can do attitude.
7) Patience with your plans allows for success where failure would otherwise occur - do not be too quick to abandon your plan - what may seem like a bottleneck, that is impossible to overcome, could be something that mere time and/or a small adjustment can fix.

Following the "Seven P's of Success" daily allows give you the knowledge and courage to address the issues that clutter your mind and life and thus maintain a healthy and organized lifestyle.

Anne, I would try to schedule focused sessions on important tasks for 60-90 minutes then spend 10 minutes to check the electronic media for anything that needs prompt attention. I would ignore some of the media until a set time for making calls and sending messages to others, etc. But think this out and do what comes to your mind.

I may have to check out the webcast and blog. I find that I am having a terrible time staying focused at work. I was thinking it was all of the electronic devices that pull my attention. Two Twitter handles, three email accounts, Facebook, LinkedIn, and yes, even SparkPeople. Changing from one quick link to the next - is this the best way to spend my time? I LOVE SparkPeople and have a lot of "friends" here. Just wondering what others this of the electronic devices over paper books, newspapers, journals, etc.

I find myself being distracted a lot and not getting back on track.
I am listening to an video from of the authors of the book you mentioned "Organize your Mind --Organize your Life: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPUmxToKO6g
and
a brief pdf from the same book, author, Paul Hammerness: blogs.hbr.org/2012/01/train-your-brain-to-
focus/
where he states: Apply the Brakes
"What can you do? To prevent distractions from hijacking your focus, use the ABC method as your brainís brake pedal.
A. Become Aware of your options: you can stop what you are doing and address the distraction, or you can let it go.
B. Breathe deeply and consider your options.
C. Choose thoughtfully: Stop? or Go?"
