i put the string around me where my hip bone is and then I lift my knees up so that it nestles into place. that is what they had me do at curves when they measured me. but really i don't think it really matters as long as you measure in the same manor each time.

Sorry, I had a bad experience with measurements in the past. Someone else took them for me and they didn't measure where I had been. (This was on a previous diet!) I gain inches around my thigh, hips, and waist all because she didn't measure the same place I had. I was devistated and didn't return to the dietician for 3 wks because of it. when I realized the problem I returned, but then my insurance decided not to pay for it any longer. anyway, just make sure you measure with the same insturment and in the same place every time!

Ravyn beat me to it: just make sure you measure the same way every time. Inches lost are inches lost!

Try to go for the same spot everytime, because you will get more accurate results. I think my first hip measurement was a little more butt than hip because it was over 54"!! It is much smaller than that now, but I have started doing the measurements in front of the mirror also, so I can make sure that the tape is not lopsided or crooked really bad!!

I think I'm just gonna take them at the top of my hip joint. That seems to be the widest place. I guess the key is to just keep measuring at the same spot.

I have been taking mine at the widest part of my hips. I have very wide hips, so it seemed like the best place for me to take it.

I do mine about 5 inches below my belly button. I do have a short torso!

I've been trying to take my measurements each week when I weigh myself. I'm having trouble figuring out where to take my hip measurement. I've been taking my waist measurement an inch or so above my belly button. I guess I have a short torso, because if I follow the directions on the measurement page and measure 7 inches below, then I am below my pelvic bone.
Should the measurement be at the top point of my pelvic bone? Should the measurement be around my butt? Does it really matter? Thanks for any suggestions
