yeah, i made the mistake of weighing myself yesterday, so even though i lost weight this week i was very upset this morning that i gained weight since yesterday...even if i only lose 1 pound a week from now on, it would take me 7 months to lose 28 pounds and i hope to be alive for a good 60 years or so...when i thought about it that way it didn't seem so bad.

I only weigh in once a week. I don't think I could deal with water-food flucuations each day, it would just too much for me to be going up-down all the time, and my emotions along with it.

I usually get on the scale in the morning but I only do that to make sure some fluke didn't have a drastic effect on me....Tomorrow will be my first 'official' weekly weigh-in, I am down 2 pounds as of this morning so I just have to stay there! The day before a weigh in I like to get the bulk of my calories in early so my body has plenty of time to process everything.

Sounds like you are all doing great! I wish someone had told me when I started a year ago to measure! That way you can see inches lost even if you aren't losing pounds. I weigh everyday, but I don't recommend it, it's a bit of a compulsion I wish I could stop!

I am not sure how the scale measures body fat %'s but it is about what my doctor told me I was at. It is also supposed to measure hydration, but I can't get over 35% hydration on it, and I drink mostly water all day, and 12 to 13 glasses of water at that. I think because I have very dry skin on my feet that it doesn't always work right!!! emoticon

Some of the Weight Watchers online stuff is free, but I was paying for the food and weight tracking part of the website. It's a good program and it helped me lose 35lbs, but I got a little burnt out on dieting and I think it can be a little difficult to conceptualize "point". 22 points doesn't seem like a lot, but 1600 calories can be very satisfying.
I have only been here for a couple days, but I cancelled my Weight Watchers subscription, because this site is free and does many of the same things.

so how exactly does a pair of scales work out your percentage of body fat?! I've always wondered that...

Sounds like once a week seems to be the norm. I have also done the same as you drea and wieghed daily, just to see general patterns. So is the weight watchers online free??!! :P I am enjoying SP so far though... :)

Thanks for all the replies! keep them coming - makes me feel a bit more sane when stepping on the scales! :)

I weigh myself daily or almost daily, but I only record the weight once a week. I was using weight watchers online to track my weight.

I like to weigh myself daily so I can keep on top of any weight gain. I know that I fluctuate through out the day, week, and month. I don't really obsess over a small gain, but I let 20lbs creep back on and I'm not going to let that happen again. If I notice a gain that last for a couple days, then I know I need to look at my diet/exersize to see what's up.

I didn't think to mention, but my scale also is suppose to calculate %fat. I watch that number too, so if my weight goes up or doesn't change, I look to % fat to see if it has gone down!! That is part of the reason I have been stepping on each day lately, the % fat has shifted a little too. emoticon

I weigh in about once a week, sometimes once every week and a half or two weeks. I'm not as concerned about weight as I am about inches. I also realize that as I build muscle, which I think I read weighs about twice as much as fat, I'm going to gain weight now and then. Gaining muscle weight is fine with me! If I weighed the same as I do now, but it was muscle instead of fat, I wouldn't have a problem with my weight!

I weigh myself every morning out of habit, but I don't beat myself up if the numbers are "off." I used to weigh myself every day of the week and then calculate my average weight for the week and make that my weigh-in number since it'll even out the fluctuations. Because of WW, I stopped doing that and just go with whatever number's on the scale on the day of my weigh-in. I'm going back to recording my average weight for the week, though. It feels more accurate for me personally.

Above all, if I get down about going up a pound here and there, I just remember how awful I felt at my original weight and am happy for the fact that I haven't seen that number in a looooooong time.

Minions! I need minions! Barring that, I'll take a non fat sugar free chai latte.

I planning on weighing in / measuring once a week. I feel tempted to do so more often, but I'd rather see downs more consistently. Besides I'm almost afraid of what it is going to tell me. It took me four days after I started this to finally step on the scale to getting my starting weight. And of course it was higher than I had estimated it to be. But that's okay, I know that I'm making progress even if it doesn't show. I feel much better and it's only been a week!

I think once a week is about optimal. It's often enough that you can see how you're doing and either feel encouraged, or take a look at what needs to change (without enforcing a bad habit for too long). Plus, most people's weight fluctuates, and if you step on too often, you may see those natural fluctuations and either get excited by a small loss, only to be up again the next day.

I think it is wise at first not to weigh more than once a week. It can be discouraging to not see the number go down. Weight is not the only indicator. So I would caution you to not weigh often at first.

I had told myself I would not weigh in more than once a week, but I have yet to hid the bathroom scale and since I lost the first pound, I have been stepping on the scale almost daily with changes happening for the good every day. I am only going to record it once a week though because I know that my weight fluxuates from day to day being a woman still in child bearing years.

Hello! Just wondering how often everyone else is weighing themselves?

do you think there is an optimum timeframe between stepping on the scales again?

Thanks,
Claire :)
