I worked the overnight shift and keep a bottle of water with me at all times. I was doing a lot of heavy cleaning, on my hands and knees scrubbing floors!!!

Anyway, I hit 15 friday, 17 on saturday (another overnight shift + day shift), and 9 on sunday.

20 glasses of water on the 5th Ravyn??? SHEESH!!!

I barely managed 8 yesterday, but I've had 12 today. I'm going on a quilting retreat this weekend, so I'll have to remember to take a bottle with me to fill up while I'm there!

I keep a drink at hand at all times. I find if it is right there, I tend to drink it. If I have to go get it, i probably will grap a pitcher of tea or something instead.

Also, I drink a lot of caffine free herbal teas. Some people say this counts as your water intake, but I count it seperately.

11 glasses of water 10/30 + 3 cups of herbal tea.

Good to see so many of you are on the right track with your water intake... although this seems like it would be one of the easier "habits" to form - I just can't get with it! It's a real struggle for me to get my 8 glasses/day in... I just don't feel thirsty so I don't remember to drink...

Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated!

I have done hot water with lemon juice in it during winter months before. What actually qualifies as water for this though? Herbal teas often are a great choice to get your water in and some are caffine free!

I have a suggestion, if you are having trouble getting your recommended fiber also, try VitaSplash fiber infusion. I have the citrus flavor, and it isn't bad. You add one packet to 16.9 oz of water, a standard bottle of water, or 20 oz for a lighter flavor. It adds only 20 calories and gives you about 5 gm of fiber in one bottle. Flavor + fiber not a bad deal. emoticon

I have been drinking a lot of water for a long time, 7 yrs. I had problems staying hydrated when I was pregnant with my son and ended up in the ER more than once. Ever since, I have a severe phobia of needles and of being dehydrated. I guess my bladder has gotten used to it over the years.

I guess my body gets used to it, or else I don't pay much attention to how many times I go to the bathroom. Even if I get up during sleep, I usually don't completely wake up, it's an auto-pilot sorta thing, LOL.

Does your body get used to drinking more water? Because no matter how much I try to space out my water intake, I'm still running to the bathroom every half hour or so, and getting up a couple of times a night.

Okay, when to the site, and I shoud drink 112 oz of water a day. With a health diet, I could drink about 90 oz of water a day because 20% of my water should come from food. This was for my weight, altitude, non-pregnant, non-breastfeeding, no serious health problems self.

That equals about 14 - 8oz glasses a day for 112 oz or 10.5 for the 90 oz. This is about what I am drink per day anyway.

Awhile back I read, (and I honestly don't remember where I read it) that you should divide your weight in pounds in half, and drink that many ounces of water a day. Sure wish I could remember where I read it!

I recently talked to a RN about water consumption, and she told me for ever 25 lbs you are overweight, that a lot of doctors recommend an additional 8 oz of water per day. Anyone else hear anything or know anything about this?

Someone mentioned drinking too much water...it actually occurs more often in "normal" people than athletes. The athlete's just get more publicity. What happens is you dilute the sodium in your body to the point that you have hyponatremia, literally, "too little salt." This can lead to a kind of drowning death, because the water accumulates in the cells of the lungs, as well as brain swelling from the water accumulating in the brain cells.
I think the US Department of Agriculture recommends an average daily fluid (not just water) intake of around 91 ounces for women and 125 ounces for men. But this can vary depending on age, activity level, etc. They also say not to drink more than 8 ounces or so per hour, so that the body has time to process and absorb it.
The reason most experts say 8 glasses is because you do get some hydration from other liquids and even food.
In other words, just aim to get what you need. Don't try to be a water superstar and overdo it.

I have heard of some accepting non caffiene tea and herbal tea for water replacement but not with milk so I would love to know what really counts. I get my 8 a day but drink a diet coke and tea and ice tea too but I have a minimum goal 8 just water. It's easier if you open a bottle first thing in the morning and even if you just sip at it it is gone by 10. Then start another-you'll be surprised how easy it is to get in at least 8 if you have it handy. The bonus will be the ones you drink when you are thirsty and at meals!

I have a sports bottle that holds 3 cups of water. My daughter had decorated it with permanant markers for me for mother's day. It keeps me motivated to drink water because I think of my kids every time I pick it up and I think about all the things I will be more able to do with them when I lose the weight!!

I keep a glass ice water by me all the time. I am getting at least 8 every day usually more like 10. I can drink ice water but water at room temperature I find a hard time getting down

I had soo totally overlooked this thread!! I usually average about 10 to 12 glasses of water a day. Unless I drink green or herbal tea, water is all I drink. I do get the occasional soy milk in. I just gave up coffee!!

so i went today to whole foods and found this drink called- tea's tea.
it's an ice tea but a real one. no suger, no calories, nothing...just tea with water- a real cold tea. in the florida heat i think that's a good nice add to the daily water. i tried it and it was really good. i wont say by any means that this will replace my water But....when you're out there and want something a bit different...standing in line with different soda, juices, etc..options around you- i think this is a really good one to take- go tea's tea

you can over drink H2O... especially if you are not eating.... best way to calculate is to multiply your weight by .55 (.65 if you are a VERY active athlete) and aim for that in ounces of water...

You would have to drink a lot of water for it to hurt you. By drinking more water you lose the water weight, bloated feeling. It's a funny consept but it is true.

I know athletes, for example if they play football and have had to much water before playing they can become sick to their stomachs. Most of us aren't putting out that much energy. So I wouldnt' worry about getting to much water, but getting at least 8 glasses a day.

F.Y.I. Difference in tap water and cold fridge water, which is best? Your body burns slightly more calories to warm up cold fridge water to your body temperature. So cold water wins the debate. Both still great for you of course.

Have made the 8 plus others like juice and 1 decaf coffee as cutting down from 5 coffees a day to nothing creates headaches! Found drinking 1 glass of water before a meal makes it so I don't eat so much, Handy! Cheers.

Feel the guilt... ya done good!

I have found since I am hitting my daily goal of 96 oz of water and I have cut fried food from my diet ( not easy the way my husband cooks!) I am NOT craving sweets.... normally I am a chocoholic! I haven't had candy in almost 2 weeks.... miracle! Last time that happened I was taking phen-fen or was it fen-phen.

I have hit my water goal every day but the first day.

I keep a bunch of those flavor packets in my locker at work. I have to walk by it to get to the water cooler and the bathroom. No excuses.

I got hooked on the flavor packets early on, way back when they first hit the shelves. I was a sheriff's deputy back then; they fit so neatly in my shirt pocket and there was always water available in the courthouse, not to mention cheaper than soda.

The Crystal Light ones are the most expensive everywhere I've looked. If you have a Super Target or Super Wal-Mart near you, they have store brands that have similar or better flavors and they are cheaper.

I live in the South, so we have Publix and Winn-Dixie grocery stores around here and they both have several brands but not store brands that I have found. The Lipton brand has several yummy flavors including green teas and white teas, and they run about $1 cheaper a box than Crystal Light around here. The berry Propel is also quite yummy and cheaper than Crystal Light, but I find one packet flavors a 32 oz. amount well, it's too sweet for me otherwise. Didn't try the other Propel flavors yet.

I bought a 32 oz. bottle with a handle on it for water, and I carry it everywhere. Two of those a day and I've met my goal. I think anyone could force themselves to do 2 a day. It's only 2. emoticon
