There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ from the law of sin and death.

--Romans 8:1-2

I'd like to ask you a question today. Which set of words better describe your life today: empty, defeated, and fearful or fulfilled, faithful, and courageous?

Only a life that's being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit can be described as fulfilled, faithful, and courageous! And if you're anything like me, I know you want your life to be described in these ways.

Yet so often, we get hung up on our past... how we failed God... or how we sinned. I mean, think about Simon Peter! He denied Christ three times the night before our Lord was crucified. He had reason to beat himself up and disqualify himself from God's service!

But Christian, that's not how God operates. God renewed, restored, and used Peter... just like He can renew, restore, and use you today.

So let me ask you--is there something in your past that's keeping you on the bench spiritually? Please think about it for a moment. Maybe it's more than one thing. Maybe it's a hundred things!

Whatever it is, let me assure you, if you are a child of God, your slate is clean. As Paul tells us in today's verse, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

Satan wants you to believe the exact opposite. And oh, how easy it is to believe him at times! But as a follower of Christ, you aren't condemned for your sins, no matter how many they may be. You're never condemned because God loves you and gave His Son's life for you!

Focus on this truth today. And it's my prayer that you will become a fulfilled, faithful, and courageous follower of Christ who God uses in amazing ways!

REMEMBER HOW MUCH GOD LOVES AND ACCEPTS YOU TODAY... AND EVERY DAY!

Is there something you know you need to do, but you just don't feel like it? If so, you can either avoid it altogether or you can force yourself to do it even though it goes against your feelings.
But there's a much less stressful, much more elegant, effective way. You can simply change your feelings on the matter.

After all, they are your feelings and they're under your control. And a great way to take control of those feelings is by putting them into words. For example, I feel like waking up a half hour earlier tomorrow morning and taking a walk. Or, I feel like swimming fifty laps this afternoon.

It seems deceptively simple, yet it works. You can change the way you feel just by saying so. Repeat it silently to yourself with enthusiasm, or say it out loud to yourself, or even better, to someone else. Then watch your actual feelings fall solidly and authentically in line.

If you don't feel like it, that's no problem because that's something you can easily change. Start saying you feel like it and before long, you will.

Is There a Catfish in Your Tank?

"Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you." (1 John 3:13)

I heard a story about some fish suppliers who were having problems shipping codfish from the East Coast. By the time the fish reached the West coast, they were spoiled. They froze them, but by the time the fish arrived, they were mushy. They decided to send them alive. But the fish arrived dead so they tried sending the fish alive again, but with one difference. They included a catfish in each tank. You see, the catfish is the natural enemy of the codfish. By the time the codfish arrived, they were alive and well, because they had spent their trip fleeing the catfish.

This is my point. Maybe God has put a catfish in your tank to keep you alive and well spiritually. It's called persecution. Maybe there's a person at work who always has eight hard questions for you every Monday morning regarding spiritual things. Maybe it is that neighbor who is giving you a hard time for your faith in Jesus. Maybe it is a spouse or family member who doesn't believe. You are wondering why this is happening. It is like that catfish. That person is keeping you on your toes.

Shortly before His crucifixion, Jesus told the disciples, "If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you" (John 15:19).

God will allow persecution in the life of the believer. If you're experiencing persecution, here are two things to remember:

Persecution confirms that you are a child of God.
Persecution causes you to cling closer to Jesus.
When you are suffering persecution for your faith, remember that this world is not your home.

Garbage In - Garbage Out
Jean Fleming, editor

I have the God-given gift of a good, positive attitude. Now I am not bragging, actually I am praising God and giving Him the glory because I haven’t always had a good attitude. And yes, there are times, even now when I can get just as negative as the next person. So let’s examine what makes a good attitude.
I believe it all starts with what we put into our mind. You’ve heard the saying “garbage in, garbage out”, well that can apply to us physically, emotionally and spiritually. Take a long, honest look at what you absorb, through the materials you read, the programs you watch and the thoughts that you think.
God’s Word is life and it is filled with His promises. Our brains are like computers; eliminate negative input and you will eliminate negative output. Sow into your minds what you want to grow, positive or negative. That is not only a responsibility but a privilege and a promise from our Creator, God.
Collossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Father thank You for offering an alternative to this negative world we live in. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

CHANGED FROM THE INSIDE OUT By Max Lucado

______________________________

When you believe in Christ, Christ works a miracle in you. You are permanently purified and empowered by God himself. The message of Jesus to the religious person is simple: It’s not what you do. It’s what I do. I have moved in. And in time you can say with Paul, “I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal. 2:20).

"If I’m born again, why do I fall so often?"

Why did you fall so often after your first birth? Did you exit the womb wearing cross-trainers? Did you do the two-step on the day of your delivery? Of course not. And when you started to walk, you fell more than you stood. Should we expect anything different from our spiritual walk?

"But I fall so often, I question my salvation."

Again, we return to your first birth. Didn’t you stumble as you were learning to walk? And when you stumbled, did you question the validity of your physical birth? Did you, as a one-year-old fresh flopped on the floor, shake your head and think, "I have fallen again. I must not be human?"

Of course not. The stumbles of a toddler do not invalidate the act of birth. And the stumbles of a Christian do not annul his spiritual birth.

Do you understand what God has done? He has deposited a Christ seed in you. As it grows, you will change. It’s not that sin has no more presence in your life, but rather that sin has no more power over your life. Temptation will pester you, but temptation will not master you. What hope this brings!

Hear this. It’s not up to you! Within you abides a budding power. Trust him!

Think of it this way. Suppose you, for most of your life, have had a heart condition. Your frail pumper restricts your activities. Each morning at work when the healthy employees take the stairs, you wait for the elevator.

But then comes the transplant. A healthy heart is placed within you. After recovery, you return to work and encounter the flight of stairs—the same flight of stairs you earlier avoided. By habit, you start for the elevator. But then you remember. You aren’t the same person. You have a new heart. Within you dwells a new power.

Do you live like the old person or the new? Do you count yourself as having a new heart or old? You have a choice to make.

You might say, “I can’t climb stairs; I’m too weak.” Does your choice negate the presence of a new heart? Dismiss the work of the surgeon? No. Choosing the elevator would suggest only one fact—you haven’t learned to trust your new power.

It takes time. But at some point you’ve got to try those stairs. You’ve got to test the new ticker. You’ve got to experiment with the new you. For if you don’t, you will run out of steam.

Religious rule keeping can sap your strength. It’s endless. There is always another class to attend, Sabbath to obey, Ramadan to observe. No prison is as endless as the prison of perfection. Her inmates find work but never find peace. How could they? They never know when they are finished.

Christ, however, gifts you with a finished work. He fulfilled the law for you. Bid farewell to the burden of religion. Gone is the fear that having done everything, you might not have done enough. You climb the stairs, not by your strength, but his. God pledges to help those who stop trying to help themselves.

“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6.) God will change you from the inside out.

Wounded by Words

When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate.

1 Peter 2:23 (NIV)

Someone you love or respect slams you to the floor with a slur or slip of the tongue. And there you lie, wounded and bleeding. Perhaps the words were intended to hurt you, perhaps not; but that doesn't matter. The wound is deep. The injuries are internal. Broken heart, wounded pride, bruised feelings.

If you have suffered or are suffering because of someone else's words, you'll be glad to know that there is a balm for this laceration. Meditate on these words from 1 Peter 2:23: "When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate.... Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly."

Did you see what Jesus did?... He left the judging to God. He did not take on the task of seeking revenge. He demanded no apology.... He, to the astounding contrary, spoke on their defense. "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34 NIV).

Live with joy
+++++++++++++++++++

Find joy in doing nothing and you can find it in everything.
Experience happiness without a reason and you can create
Happiness for any reason.

Realize that happiness is not the result of good things, but
Is indeed the cause of good things. There is nothing you
Need in order to be happy other than the choice to be.

Imagine living this day filled with joy, happiness and
Positive purpose. Imagine it, then take one more step and
Actually do it.

Let go of any concern you may have for what does or does not
Come your way. Focus instead on the good and valuable things
That you can give, create, inspire and choose to experience.

Don't allow the world to pull you down with its negativity.
Choose to transform the world around you with your own
Positive outlook.

Real joy is always a choice you can make. Live with joy, let
Happiness flow out from you, and life becomes more radiant
With each passing moment.

Forgetting God

I remember one holiday years ago where I baked and fussed over a special meal for our family, and only my husband and I showed up; our two young adults at the time had “other plans.” I remember the feeling of disappointment, and I wondered if I had raised ungrateful and unappreciative children.

I wonder if God feels the same way when we turn down or totally ignore His invitation? He has prepared a feast for us, and yet, we insist we are too busy, have other plans, or make other excuses why we chose not to partake. Then, when something goes wrong, who do many of these same people call on who previously wanted nothing to do with God?

God.

Think about some of the more recent tragedies to occur, and how survivors told of people screaming out to God to save them, or last minute prayers in the attempt to save their soul before they perish.

Just as we should show our earthly friends and family how much they are cared for and appreciated before its too late, let us also not neglect our heavenly Father.

I especially liked your imagery of the other disciples "rooting and encouraging on."

It made me think of how we should be with one another. With our weight loss programs. We should encourage one another. When we begin to walk out on that water and lose sight and begin to sink we have each other to throw out a life preserver.

Jesus is awesome! He gave someone the ideaology to come up with SP. Through Him all things are possible.

A JEWEL FOR JESUS

When Faith Falters
Jean Fleming, editor

When my faith falters I go to the story of Peter walking on the water. You’ll find it in Matthew 14:22-32 where Jesus told His Disciples to get into the boat and go ahead of Him while He dismissed the crowd. Later that night He walked out on the water coming toward them. When they saw Him they were terrified, thinking He was a ghost. He immediately said to them “It is I. Don’t be afraid”. Peter replied, “Lord if it’s you; tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come”, Jesus said.
Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water. I can just see the other disciples there encouraging him saying something like, “Go for it Peter. You can do it. We’ll stand behind you all the way.” And that’s what they did, they stood behind him. Peter was the only one who had the faith to step out of the boat.
Now we can stop the message right here and bask in the great faith that Peter had. He had the faith to speak to this image, not only to speak but to obey. Of course the image was Jesus and the great faith that Peter had allowed him to step out of the boat and go toward his Saviour. But friends the story doesn’t stop there. We go on to read how Peter took his eyes off of the Lord and when he focused on the wind, terror struck him and he began to sink, crying out “Lord save me!” Jesus replied then as He does now to all of us “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Peter’s faith started to waiver, when he took his eyes off of Jesus. That happens to us, doesn’t it? We start off wonderfully strong, trusting God, knowing, as Peter did that God would not tell us to do something that would be harmful to us. But we, like Peter, take our eyes off of Jesus and look at the surrounding circumstances and doubt sets in and our faith weakens. That is what caused Peter to sink and it is what will cause us to sink.
This should not be. It was Jesus’ plan for Peter to walk all the way to Him and all the way back to the boat with Him. Peter almost drowned when his faith weakened but Jesus rescued him as He will rescue us when we falter, but His plan is for us to walk all the way with Him by faith.

Thank You Lord for Your patience as we grow in our faith, thank You Lord for not giving up on us and thank You Lord for all of our rescues. We praise You. Amen.

10 Ways to Tell You're Slipping
Joe McKeever

It's surprising how God's people awaken one day and suddenly realize they have fallen away from the closeness they used to enjoy with the Lord. The signs have been there all along, but they were not paying attention.

Here are some tests I have discovered for spotting signs of slippage in my own walk with the Lord, evidence that I'm losing the intimacy with Him that always meant so much in my personal life.

10. You know you're slipping when the big thing you look forward to on a Sunday is a football game.

9. You know you're slipping when reading the Bible no longer excites you, angers you, or challenges you.

8. You know you're slipping when you finally get up off the couch and get involved in some ministry the Lord has been laying on your heart and the first thing you do is start criticizing all the other couch potatoes who are only doing the same thing you have been doing all this time.

7. You know you're slipping when, after slacking off in your tithing over the past year, instead of feeling guilty, you find yourself criticizing the regular tithers for their self-righteous and legalistic attitudes.

6. You know you're slipping when you can read the Ten Commandments and give yourself a passing grade on all of them.

5. You know you're slipping when you can go a whole day without praying and it not bother you one bit.

4. You know you're slipping when you can have a dirty thought and justify it as "what normal humans do."

3. You know you're slipping when you feel a nudging from the Holy Spirit to speak to that person or give to this one or make a phone call to another and you squelch it.

2. You know you're slipping when you decide to reward yourself for doing well by skipping your Bible reading and prayer for that day.

1. You know you're really, really slipping when the problem of slipping doesn't cause you great concern.

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
By; Dr. Jack Graham

And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples, "Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?" And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

--Mark 2:15-17

As we can see in today's verses, the fact that Jesus would be seen with tax collectors and prostitutes--much less attend the same party as them--was scandalous in His day. No one, especially a religious person, would have dared spend time with those kinds of people!

Yet Jesus often spent time with outsiders. He often went out of His way to embrace those whom society deemed as "riffraff." Why did He do this?

The answer is right there in Mark 2:17 when Jesus says, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

There were people who were sick with sin in Jesus' day just like there are people who are sick with sin in our day. Yet so often, we're so offended by other peoples' sin that we isolate ourselves from them. But this isn't something Jesus modeled when He was here on earth!

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, you and I ought to be going out of our way to befriend those who are sick with sin. Does this mean engaging in their sin so that we can have an audience with them? Absolutely not. Does it mean condoning their sin so that they might listen to us? Not at all!

What it does mean is that you and I should be willing to meet people where they are in their sin and then introduce them to the only One who can heal them... Jesus Christ, the Great Physician!

Let me ask you, is there someone in your life right now whose sin is so great that you're avoiding contact with them? Maybe it's the guy in your office who's cheating on his wife. Or maybe it's the lady next door to you who constantly yells at her kids.

Whoever it is, you and I should be willing to get out of our comfort zone to befriend those who aren't walking with Christ.

This is what Jesus did... and I pray it's something you and I will do every day!

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, you and I ought to be going out of our way to befriend those who are sick with sin.

Ambition
Jean Fleming, editor

In some Christian circles it’s a dirty word. The word is “ambition”. Ambition, in itself, isn’t a bad thing. It is actually a neutral concept that can either work for good or bad in our lives. Check your motives. What are you after? Is it pleasing to God? Like anything else ambition can be misdirected. If it is self-exalting it is not Christian.
Jesus taught His disciples the difference between worldly and Christian ambition in Matthew 20:27 when He said “Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant”. The Christian must constantly remind himself that ambition flows from only two possible sources--carnality or spirituality. Christian ambition has a servant’s attitude of the heart to obey Christ, whether the results be success or failure in the eyes of his contemporaries.
There is a fable that tells of a mailroom clerk named Horville Sash, Horville saw a bug scurrying across the floor and he thought “I may be a mailroom clerk but I am bigger than this bug”. He raised his foot to flatten the bug and the bug spoke, saying “please spare me and I will give you your fondest wishes” So Horville spared the bug and asked to be promoted to the second floor. Zap, he was working on the second floor and he heard footsteps above him. He thought a higher floor means higher pay so zap he was working on the third floor, on and on until he had reached the very top floor, the highest position in the company and he still was not satisfied. He scrambled up the stairs and found himself on the roof. At last he was the highest and the greatest.
Finally content he headed back down the stairs and he came across a boy on the edge of the building with his eyes closed. Horville asked him what he was doing and the boy answered “I am praying”, ‘To whom” asked Horville. “To God” answered the boy. Horville panicked, he asked “Do you mean there is someone higher than me, someone greater than I?” “Yes” answered the boy. Horville summoned the bug and said “Make me God, make me the greatest. Put me in the position that only God would hold if He were here on earth.” The very next day, Horville began to work in the mailroom.

Dear Heavenly Father, we know that there is no such thing as a Christian who does nothing, we have all been given spiritual gifts to minister and to encourage. Give us a servant’s heart. Give us the desire and the ambition to glorify You. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Possibilities

You have no way of knowing how much you can do until you actually begin to do it. You do not know how far you can go until you actually begin to venture out. Just because no one has done it before does not make it impossible. You may be the very person who finally finds a way.
If you knew the full extent of what you were capable of achieving, you would never hesitate to step boldly forward. If you truly knew how very, very much was indeed possible, doubt would never be a part of your thinking.

The way to know what you can do is not to guess or wish or speculate. The way to know what you can accomplish is to begin and then to persist.

Become aware of your own strength by putting it to use. And become aware of the best of your possibilities by bringing them to life.

The fear of not knowing how something will turn out is enough to
Make anyone say, "Forget it." Rather than dealing with the problems
Head on, sometimes it's easier to ignore them and hope they'll go
Away. When we're tired of trying, it's tempting to think that, since
Nothing has worked in the past, we're powerless.

Does any of this ring a bell? If so, it's probably because you put
Way to much pressure on yourself to have things work out well. With a mind set like this you're missing out on opportunities,
Relief and good fortune, simply because you didn't try.

There are no guarantees in any of our lives. Things may or may not work
Out. Just because they "may not" work out, it's not an excuse to not
Try.

Next time you find yourself saying, "Forget it" give it a shot and
Say "Why not?" instead. Jump in with both feet and
See what happens.

Amen to God knowing what we need even before we do.

Dorothy

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

How awesome is that!? Today I just shared that very same scripture. I too have an affliction. At first I use to pray to be delivered. Now I thank the Lord for my "thorn." Through it I have been able to help others that suffer from the same thing.

God always knows what His children need and when...

Thanks for that confirmation

Afflictions
Jean Fleming, editor

I am continuously amazed at people who overcome their afflictions, their circumstances and do so with grace and dignity. My daughter and I have a friend who lost her leg in an accident, and it has been a difficult, trying time for this young woman. Yet she perseveres and every time we speak she has a great attitude and a gentle sweet spirit.
Her situation reminds me of a story I heard about a young boy who at the age of 10 lost his left arm in an accident. His mom signed him up for judo lessons and after three months his judo master had only taught him one move, telling him that “it is the only move you will ever need to know.”
After several more months the boy entered a tournament and won all three matches. As he entered the finals he asked his master why he was winning. His master answered, “You won for two reasons; first, you have mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. Second, the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm.” This child’s biggest weakness had become his greatest strength.
How do you view your weaknesses, do you constantly fret, worry, complain and focus on what you can’t do or do you see the opportunities that will turn that weakness into strength?
God told Paul after refusing to remove Paul’s “thorn in the flesh: that “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” II Corinthians 12:9.

And Father we thank You for Your grace, which is sufficient. Amen.

Watch and Pray

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.

Mark 14:38 (NIV)

"Watch." They don't come any more practical than that. Watch. Stay alert. Keep your eyes open. When you see sin coming, duck. When you anticipate an awkward encounter, turn around. When you sense temptation, go the other way.

All Jesus is saying is, "Pay attention." You know your weaknesses. You also know the situations in which your weaknesses are most vulnerable. Stay out of those situations. Back seats. Late hours. Movie theaters. Whatever it is that gives Satan a foothold in your life, stay away from it. Watch out!

"Pray." Prayer isn't telling God anything new. There is not a sinner nor a saint who would surprise him. What prayer does is invite God to walk the shadowy pathways of life with us. Prayer is asking God to watch ahead for falling trees and tumbling boulders and to bring up the rear, guarding our backside from the poison darts of the devil.
