I happen to think it's an excellent idea! I'm new to Team and have been trying to latch on to a Round Robin for the past couple of weeks. Please continue with the story, or whatever your plans are. But, can you keep me posted, please??!!

No, I don't know...I haven't been on myself because I did get called back to work--but at the high school instead of the middle school, so I'm going crazy trying to make lesson plans for four different classes.

But if it's just us, it's just us, right? Write!!!

I wonder if we start a new thread but use a "Title" and a plea of some kind? Like:

Please! Help us write 'ONE MAN'S REVENGE'

Or whatever you want to call it. And we could copy everything that's been written so far and put it in the first post of the new thread. 'IN MELANIE'S MEMORY'? 'UNDERGROUND FORCE' 'TUMBLE' 'MITCHELL McMANUS: a FATHER'S STORY' (((I've never been good at titles! Everything I work on has a working title of the main characters. i.e., "Mick and Norah", "Bobby and Rebecca", "Kenny and Jordyn"))).... Maybe we could have a thread topic/"contest"/suggestion for a cool title?

If we start a new thread, most of the members will receive a 'new topic' e-mail. I think maybe the "let's start this Round Robin" just wasn't being sent to everyone anymore. I don't know. What do you think?

I was really hoping someone would respond to the three words I put in Mitch's note. I mean I certainly don't know what they mean! I chose them randomly by closing my eyes and pointing to a page in a book!

Did we lose all the others? It is starting to get good and just the two of us repling. Any ideas to get them back on board?

When Mitch opened the filthy little piece of notebook paper, all that was scrawled on it were the words: Prophecy Knowlege Sing. Not only did it not make sense, the lettering looked like it had been written by a Kindergartner with a pen that was running out of ink.

Weeks went by and Mitch was no closer to finding out anything. Then one early misty morning while Mitch and the other team members were handing out coffee, someone slipped him a small, rinkled piece of paper. Without even looking at him, this stranger reached out his dirty gloved covered hand than disappeared into the fog.

He had racked his brain, trying to remember if there had been any signs--any changes in Melanie's behavior or attitude or eating habits...if there had been, he had missed them completely. The local police jurisdiction had chalked up his daughter's murder as gang and drug related. After all, her autopsy had shown her blood to have a high percentage of mixed drugs--a cocktail, they called it--a combination of ecstacy, alcohol, heroin, and benzadrine. While the case was not exactly closed, he knew that local police had given up ever knowing who exactly had murdered the angel-faced fifteen-year-old female.

Mitch had never seen his daughter so much as sip a glass of champagne at a wedding. There had to be more to it. Maybe she had been experimenting, maybe she was headed in that direction. But he couldn't believe it had gone that far, if at all.

Was he in denial? Or had Melanie stumbled into something more sinister?

It was on these same streets that his beloved Melanie was found just over a year ago. The guilt Mitch feels is always with him. He thought as an officer of the law he should have seen the changes in his daughter.

Mitch left these details to the others. They knew by now not to try to include him in the conversation. At the end of the meeting, one of the women would hand him a slip of paper with a few supplies written on it. He'd give it to Macy, his unofficial "assistant" at the office, and she would somehow manage to get whatever was on it. Once, he was supposed to get 10 blankets by the end of the week. But smudges had made the 10 look like 100. Sure enough, Macy had rounded up one hundred blankets for Mitch to deliver. The volunteer crew had been ectastic, but delivering these gifts was not the reason Mitch was here. No, he was here because it was here that he could observe the streets, and more importantly, the people on the streets.

"Was it you, Punk?" he'd think as he watched an addict sell the blanket some kind-hearted do-gooder had just given him to get cash toward more crack.

"What did you see, Old Man?" he wanted to ask the homeless guy sipping his free soup under the awning, "You had to have SEEN something, HEARD something...you're here all the time!"

Someone knew who had killed his Melanie, and Mitch had to find out, too.

This morning's meeting will cover the items that each team will have on hand. Counselling to those who want it, blankets, hot coffee, sandwiches and clean needles. Most of the people they will encounter don't want to be saved or helped, they just want their next fix.

As the Doc parked the car, Mitch noticed there were a lot of kids walking to school. He looked at his watch. Yeah, school hadn't started yet. He got out of the car and almost hit a teenager with the door. "Whoops, sorry." "That's okay", she said. She looked about sixteen, same age as Melanie. He felt that familiar anguishing ache deep in his gut.

Easier hadn't crossed his mind. He was just praying that it didn't get any harder.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

"These mornings don't get any easier, eh?" The doctor settled into the driver's seat, gesturing toward the large styrofoam cup of coffee waiting in the second cupholder. They had been having these morning meetings for three months now, every Tuesday and Thursday. The doctor was the closest thing Mitch had to a friend and even he didn't know all that Mitch kept inside. The secret rage mixed with rending heartache that drove him to this life. The doctor didn't know that some days, Mitch's knowledge that he would be waiting for him was the only thing that got Mitch through the night, kept his hand from the revolver.

"Mitch."
The doctor stepped out of the shadows. Looking as tired as Mitch felt, with huge dark bags under his eyes, he wordlessly got into the truck. Mitch did the same, glad that the good doctor wasn't a conversationist.

This community outreach program could save lifes. Off duty police officers joining other citizens in the hopes of bringing addicts off the streets. Joining him this morning is a doctor who specializes in additions and a the manager of the neighborhood rehab center. The city's most dangerous streets is where they will walk this morning. He could not save her but maybe he can save others.

A "kind deed" indeed he thought as he wiped the remaining moisture from his eyes.

The cold air slapped him in the face. He seemed to have forgotten that it was close to winter. His brain was too full to hold such minute details as the weather. He had to focus on his goal, his "kind deed."

Walking passed his dresser his eyes caught the picture of his beloved daughter, a tear streamed down his face, as he wiped it away he remembered why, "Daddy Misses you baby girl", a streak of his tear was left behind when his finger brushed across her picture, as he hurried out the door.

He forced himself to sit up. Put his feet on the floor. Stand. He had already dressed in his uniform before he went to bed to save having to put forth the effort at four in the morning. He reached for his holster and tried to remember why he had agreed to do this.

With his regular daytime job and this new act of kindness, he was burning both ends of the candle at the same time. This week's three night straight is just beginning and he is already beat.

The sound of the alarm clock breaks the quiet of the night. He reaches for it twice, missing it both times.

( I hope this will help start this Round Robin)
