Thanks for the great advice, Kakipopup!

The link to the Hacker's diet didn't work for me, but I was able to access via a google search. Interesting concept!

I know all of the "blah blah blah, yadda, yadda, yadda" about the scale - it's not reliable, it's not the only measurement, etc. etc. etc.

It still matters to me, no matter how many NSV's I track.

There are at least a couple of ways around this:

The low-tech:
Log your weight multiple times per week, then add up all the weights and divide by the number of days to get your average weight. Focus on this number.

The higher-tech:
Use the tracker at The Hacker's Diet Online (there may be others out there like this, but this is the one I use) to track your weight daily.

www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/

This uses mathematical formulas to "smooth" your average so that you don't see the daily fluctuations. You can see an example of my graph in my photo gallery at this link:

ry_enlarge.asp?id=3731333

The little diamonds show the actual daily weights.
The red line is the smoothed average and shows the overall trend
The dotted yellow line is the goal line (.5 lb. per week)
The blue line is the stage I'm at on the exercise program
I don't know why the diamonds are different colors...

This has really helped me -FWIW, anyway -

WOW! I think the biggest change in the past several weeks is actually my attitude. I am much more conscious of what I eat (really trying to stick with the "healthier" stuff, watching my portions, waiting to decide if I am really still hungry, etc.), drinking more water than I thought was possible, and exercising like there is no tomorrow (apparently, I'm addicted to "dance" videos like zumba - it doesn't even feel like you're working out).

I'm a bit frustrated that the scale this week did not reflect all of the hard work (I only lost 0.4 pounds). I'm trying VERY HARD today to remember that the scale does not define my success - I have successfully made changes in how I view food and exercise, I have lost over 11 pounds, I can exercise easier, I can make it up the three flights of stairs at work without having to take a break in the middle. I know all of these things - but it would have been really nice if the scale had cooperated a little bit more today!

Wow it is six weeks already, I weigh in tomorrow. I have lost 14 pounds up to last weigh in. I am not expecting much as it seems that I lose weight one week and not the next.

So that was the end of Week 6 for most of us! A month and a half?! That's just crazy!

I hope that everyone takes a little time out for themselves this month.
Stop at an interesting and have a cup of coffee....Treat yourself to a move - ALONE. Read a book you've been wanting to get to too.... Get a new CD and take a walk alone, not "working out" just wandering and thinking and sitting and looking... It may be Valentine's Day, but we can't love and respect anyone else properly until we can love and care for ourselves.

That is true. People love and care about you, and when you don't care for yourself it hurts THEM. So if you want to be a good mother/father/sibling/child/friend you need to learn to respect and love your own self.

I've lost another 2 pounds. I'm down my first 20.5! I feel very accomplished. I'm a little worried about how out of shape I am. By this time in all my other attempts I've been doing a lot more cardio and real workouts. The walks are still kicking my butt. I got a stability ball and a little weighted ball at Ross's for a few dollars and I like working out with those. And I bought pants in an even smaller size! My "small pants" that I had just gotten into 3 weeks ago....well I can pull them down without unbuttoning them, they are so loose! Heehee.

I'm being more careful about keeping to my lists and schedules. I'm happiest when I do that and feel my best. :D

Hope everyone else is doing well!
