I can't believe it's already been 8-weeks. I reset my goals this morning.

1. Control Portions by continuing to measure what I eat daily.
2. Eat right stuff by eating whole and natural foods daily and limiting processed foods.
3. Exercising by continuing to do my daily walks and starting to add classes.
4. Drink 8 glasses of water daily and continue working toward eliminating diet soda.
5. Mindful eating by focusing on eating for necessity not entertainment, boredom or
emotional comfort.
6. Look for unexpected opportunities for physical activity and cutting calorie intake.

My long term goals are to continue this plan for weight loss and blood sugar control. After 8 weeks, I feel better than I have in a long time. My last A1c went from 8.3 to 6.9. I don't want to go back to the life I had before Spark. I can easily say this plan has become my new lifestyle.

MY SMART GOALS TO CONQUER DIABETES

SPECIFIC
Manage my diabetes by consistently exercising and eating healthy foods. This will also result in a weight loss of 1 – 2 pounds a week.

MEASUREABLE
Continue to strength train 6 days a week adding 2 – 3 reps as the current routine gets easier.
Cardio will be achieved by walking, dancing, or bicycle riding 4 times a week for 20 minutes. Time and intensity will increase as I become fit.
Maintain a total calorie intake of between 1220 – 1629 per day to lose 1 pound per week.

ACHEIVABLE
I have done this before and I can do it again!

RELEVANT
Health is our greatest gift. With good health I will have more opportunities to live well and enjoy life.

Timely
I will review and reevaluate my goals on the first day of each month and make adjustments as necessary. I currently see my calorie intake at night as my biggest obstacle so special attention will be paid to this.

I am on week 8 and so I am trying to set some realistic and beneficial goals. I know the first one is going to be strength training will continue. That is a no brainer. since I started doing this almost 4 months ago starting with PT and then the challenge I just have to say it is an amazing way to start the day.

I will be setting some food goals as well and one of those has to be evening snacks. I don't want to feel deprived and say something like no eating in the evening but truthfully this is my downfall. I may have to start figuring out some low calorie yummy snacks and then set my calorie count accordingly.

For instance, last night... peanuts, cookies, and chocolate. Really not good! First I shouldn't even have this stuff in the house and second I shouldn't eat them all night long. DUH

Week 8 I plan to start this all over. My fasting bS today was 147 and It has to do with the changing the meds.

I want to be able to get off the diabetic meds in the future and with losing weight that will help.

Still in week 8. My goal is to start this process all over again and glad too. I will be adding yoga in to my work-outs. This next eight weeks is to reduce as much stress as possible. Consistent work out and planned meals - I will be having glucerna prior to my work-outs.

Over the past 8 weeks I have been able to improve so much with my diet and fitness...although I have some days that are no as great as others I have managed to lower my A1C from over 9% to 6.4%, I have also lost more weight and am even closer to reaching my goals...I hope to continue managing my diabetes and hope to one day be able to not take medication anymore and possibly even reverse the disease completely...I am trying to lose 20 more lbs by January 1st to finally be under 300lbs but I will be happy to get at least close to that...I have another follow up with my doc in Jan and I know she is going to be excited at my progress...I am just so thankful for this challenge and also excited about the progress I have made and will continue to make on my weight loss journey...

My long term goal is to get rid of the words Type II diabetes in my medical records! ..in that vein I am working on getting the momentum to do mre each day, doesnt matter what just more....errrrrrr 'cepting eating that is! emoticon
Funny how when I think "ME" my brain says I can do many things in a day and my body says no way!...
My goal today is to STEP AWAY from the computer...I have errands to run, the gym, a repairman coming in the afternoon and laundry to finish and on the clothesline before he arrives. Dishes are done.... And I want to get back into the gardens and do some more clean up for winter plus I have some perennials that didn't get into the ground yet that need attending and preparing my blueberries for winter.

My long term goals are to do more challenges. I will probably redo this challenge because it is really working for me. I will also continue to track food and eat fruit and veggies more often, exercise at least 10 mins 5 days a week and strength train at least 3 days a week. It works!

The challenge has been very eye-opening, and I have made good progress and learned a lot. I want to continue tracking my food, exercise at least 5 days a week, lose at least 45 more lbs., lower the A1C to 5.9, and keep the FBG under 110. Most of the posts I've read mention positive things about the resistance band workout, so I'd also like to buy a resistance band and try that workout. Keep on Sparking!

My long term goals are to keep doing what I've been doing for the last 7 weeks. I've learned that if I track my food, record my blood sugars, and be very aware of every single thing I put in my mouth, I can gradually lose weight, reduce my insulin, and feel so much better. I've lost 15 lbs so far, and I think that's a very reasonable number. I have lots more to go. I'm going back to the beginning of the challenge and increase the exercise, especially the strength training. I've been afraid of that because I have angina, and I now believe I will be fine.

My BS is very well under control but my weight is not. Yes, I have lost a lot but I still need to lose more and even though I am still exercising everyday for about an hour and eating mostly correctly with only occasional treats, I can't lose or even maintain this. So my long term goal is to make a new commitment and lose this last 50 lbs by next April. It's a tough time schedule but maybe that's what I need.

My goals are to keep my bs' under control. Keeping my fbs 100 or under and continuing doing what I am doing to hopefully reach my goal. My weight is coming off very slow because I am at my last 10 lbs. So I am trying not to discouraged and plugging away at it. It helps to have you bs numbers be good. I don't get as discouraged. My daughter is getting married in Oct.2012 so I would like to be fairly close to my goal.

My goalsare to keep working at the same pace until I canlive a "normal" pre-diabetic life again. My numbers are all looking good but they could still stand a little tweaking. Exercise and proper diet have made a huge difference in all that.

I am about to end my challenge and it was GREAT!! emoticon

I have lost 25 lbs over the last 8 weeks. Yippee!! emoticon

My plans going forward are:

1. Keep tracking and planning my food intake and my fitness.
2. Get outside to do cardio once the weather cools off in late September/October.
3. I am off of two medications and only have one more to go. Get off of it by the end of the year (I see my doctor again in December).
4. Continue to keep my fbs below 120 and moving towards 100 over time.
5. Make these changes a part of my life going forward.

Try another challenge that interests me.

Thanks everyone for the great support during the challenge. emoticon

Long team goal would be to keep the blood sugars with in control areas. Make sure that the A1C comes down from the 10 that i started this challenge with. A month after the hospital stay it was down to 9.5! Endo doc is expecting great #'s come Sept. A1C down ; Lipid panel down ;weight on the way down; healthy meal planning increased; fitness planned and in place working on it. Still having the increase with the blood sugars after working out and so I'm only to do little bits of exercise at a time to control those reactions. Live a healthy, happy, fun filled life with my changed lifestyles and not let diabetes control me, but I'm in control of diabetes !

Long term goals.........

Nutrion- make it a habit to pack lunch and healthy snacks for the entire week...tried the batch cooking activity and it is great! Makes life so much easier (and with 5 kids it works great for the rest of the family too!)

Diabetes- to avoid having to go on insulin, to keep better track of my levels and get diabetes under control instead of letting it control me!

Fitness- to continue with the weight training and be a little more consistent with it. The cardio is easy for me, the weight training is where I'm having issues. I want to dance again in performances and for that I need to be in better shape.

Weight/Measurements- I'm not so much focused on a specific weight as I am on a healthy body. I don't care if I weigh 200 lbs as long as that is a healthy muscular lean 200 lbs :) I want to have a healthy, toned, tight body. I'm more than 1/2 way there and it's been a very loooooooooooong journey, but I have not given up and I know that I will make it eventually.

Today is my first day off the steriods and I'm so happy about this. Hopefully things will go back to normal. I gained 16 lbs from my lowest weight in April and that was despite never giving up or stopping exercising. I hope August will be the month to beginning losing again. We'll see......

Ok....I started week eight yesterday....I've lost 23 pounds, I tracked my food, fitness, and glucose numbers daily. I worked closely with my Dr. I've been taken off two types of diabetes medication and have begun insulin injections every night to lower my FBS....When I started this eight week program my FBS was over 200. My average FBS is now 106....
I will continue to track everything I do and continue on this healthy life style.....
Thanks Sparkpeople....I'll continue to spread the word..... emoticon

Well I have a diagnosis of "pre-diabetes" not diabetes, and as soon as I started to exercise and lose weight, my fasting blood glucose started dropping. So I'm hoping to drop even the "pre-" label after I lose another 80 pounds.

My number one long term goal is to lose another 50 lbs. I've been on this fence too long and now with the steriods I'm taking, I gain ozs almost everyday. Hopefully when I finish with these steriods, things will go back to normal and I'll start to lose again. I sure am keeping my fingers crossed. Meanwhile, still eating on plan and exercising everyday. I'm not going to give up, this is just a minor setback. ;)

Week 8, Day 3... FBS 87

I already stated my long term goals in an earlier post so my goals for today are to attend my taekwondo and kickboxing classes this morning, do our Friday family workout on the Wii with the kiddos, track my food intake, watch my carb count, enjoy the evening with the fam and get some much needed rest...tomorrow is a busy DIY kitchen project day for us...more work than we ever anticipated!

Keep on sparkin' team... hope everyone has a sparktastic weekend!!

Okay, I've really enjoyed the check-in part of the challenge so I'm just gonna keep checking in here since there's nowhere else to do it, sooooo...

Week 8, Day 2....FBS 117. A bit higher than usual for me but I did eat a late dinner last night so not too shabby. I lost another pound as of this morning so that makes a total of 23 pounds so far...WOOHOO!!

My long term goals are to become more healthy, take care of myself, and eventually get off the meds. I would love to continue losing weight and working out. I feel better and have more and more energy everyday. I love this challenge and will be looking for another one at the end of the week.

The Lord doesn't expect us to work harder than we are able. He doesn't (nor should we) compare our efforts to those of others. Our Heavenly Father asks only that we do the best we can - that we work according to to our full capacity, however great or however small that may be.

My long term goals are to maintain the good habits I've developed during this challenge and to not forget the lessons I've learned.
I've learned that there is no holiday from maintaining my healthy habits. That reflects in my blood glucose readings.
I've learned that I know what I have to do but I just have to love myself enough to do it.
I've learned that when I exercise daily, eat properly, and test that I feel fantastic physically and mentally.
I've learned that if I put my mind to I can do anything!

Dreams become reality one choice at a time.
