Sugars have been pretty good. I also do a pep talk. I really need that to keep myself positive.

I give myself a 5-minute pep talk every day, which includes reviewing my 7 rules of commitment; track everything; and read success stories. So far, my sugars are steadily declining--wish the scale results would decline as quickly as the glucose monitor's. This, too, will be a good week.

I am using SparkCoach, the nutrition tracker, the fitness tracker, and everything else I can find to keep me thinking about what I need to do to be successful. My calorie range went way low for awhile but it went back up without any weight change. I am finding the higher range a bit more attainable. I do realize that it will make weight loss slower but I am okay with that.

I am now using the nutrition tracker in connection with the fitness goal planner. changing the fitness minute goals changes the calorie range and when I am having a few very active days I adjust the fitness minute goals up and the calorie range increases to fit/.I am less hungry and have started to lose after doing this.

I've been plugging food in to the nutrition tracker before I even eat them to try to round out the proper amount of protein, carbs, fat etc. This helps me make better choices or tells me when I can splurge a bit without going over my numbers. I really think that SP is helping me stay on track with exercising as well. It's great to "tell" someone about my work out and see exactly what I burned while doing it. Watching the calories burned numbers going up is a thrill that makes it worth putting in the effort!

Tracking my food has become a great motivator, especially helpful is to see that I can eat quite a bit - replacing "bad food choices" with fruits and vegetables. I recently read that protein helps to curb the appetite so I have been watching my protein and I feel like my hunger pangs are going away...slowly. Everyday is full of choices, I am trying to make most of them healthy choices. SparkPeople is a wonderful resource, I have been telling people at work about and I will definitely tell my doctor when I have my next visit in April.

I use the fitness and nutrition trackers and go to the gym and workout with my daughter almost daily. While at the gym, I use the various weight machines, elliptical, recumbent bike, and treadmill; of course not all on the same day. I make a point of going with my daughter because she has over 200 pounds to lose, and she will only go if I go.

I use the nutrition tracker daily. I became diligent with it on Everyday Health, but then they started having login problems and I find SparkPeople, which is much better. Yes it is time consuming and I do find myself adding a lot of my own entries, but it is very important to me to know which food increase my blood sugar. LoL, of course everything I like increases my blood sugar.

I like the nutrition tracker. I have been using it since I have been on this site.I find it to be very helpful. However, after reading other posts, I do agree that some of the nutrition information is different compared to what the package or other sources states.

I just started to use the nutrition tracker a few weeks ago. At first I just recorded what I ate and looked for what I was doing well and where I needed to improve. I was very surprised and the nutritional values of some foods.
Then I started putting things in before I ate them to see what it would do to my numbers. Just recently I have been planning the whole days menu the day before so I can reliably come within the goal numbers for every meal and snack.
I turned the meal planner on to see what it was like. Nice idea but I probably wont use it for a few more weeks. I think the mental exercise of planning out my nutrition is helping me better evaluate what I am eating. I would like to use it in the future.

I use the Tracker Daily to record all my meals and snacks. I preplan all my meals and check them ahead of time primarily for the calories, carbs and protein so I already know where I will stand. I also use it to help me track by twice daily Blood Sugars (one fasting and the other a 2 hour post mand some of the Vitamins like folate.

I've been using the Nutrition Tracker since Sept 2012 but recently activated using the Tracker's suggested meal plans that incorporate the SP Diabetes Management program. They have really helped me meet the daily guidelines and I've started loosing weight since using the meal plans.

I've been using this site for several years and I've never really found any issues with it. If I find something that other user's have entered and the nutrition info is correct, I just enter it as a favorite. You can then search those favorites so it's easier to find. Otherwise if I can't find anything I'll enter it myself and that automatically is entered as a favorite. I don't have a smartphone anymore. I find it's easier to enter it at a computer anyways.

Hi, I have been with Spark People for over 1 year. The past two weeks I was able to actually keep track. I felt it took too much time, also. However, I noticed if I compile most of the foods I eat on favorites which is basically what I did the past few weeks. Each time gets easier and faster as my regular foods are their, not what is posted. I realised my fruits and veggies were really lows so I am trying to eat more and it is working. It may seem overwhelming at first but consistency is the key. It really does help. Think of it as time spent in front of the TV, you are worth it. I believe in you all one step at a time. YOU CAN DO IT!

@Heidishope....I totally agree with you. The tracker is very time consuming and many of the foods entered by members are incorrect due to the food manufacturers updating their products nutrition information.

I don't have a smart phone either.

I like to write my own food journal because it takes less time.

Have a blessed day, Sheila

I find the food tracker to be an aggravation.

It is so time consuming having to create online recipes of meals so I can enter the calories, etc. when my cookbooks give me those numbers.

So many of the entered foods (by members) have too many options and it takes too long to sort through them all to find exactly what I ate. Also many of them have incorrect numbers on the calories, fat, sodium, etc from pre-packaged foods when I compare what is in the database and what's on the box or can.

I can't afford a Smartphone so I can use those handy scan options.

Any suggestions????

AGA7027,

Have you tried the recipe calculator on your nutrition tracker page? You just put all your ingredients and amounts in and say haw many servings and it will tell you how much per serving.

As for the Okra I looked it up in my Atkins carb counter book.
1/2 c steamed Okra
4.7 carbs
2.4 fiber
1.8 protein
0.2 fat
23 calories

Another day another step closer to a healthy life.

I love the nutriion tracker. It is so easy to use compared to other ones. I find that alt of the food I eat is already in thier. I do double check serving sized especially ones that other people but in there to make sure my serving size matches thier.

My only problem has been when I make something from Scratch like last night Chicken with apples, I find it realy hard to determine the calories in a dish. Not sure how to get around this. My Okra last night but could not find it in the tracker.

Still this is the best one I have used.

I absolutely love the nutrition tracker. I have been writing down what I eat, carbs and fiber on and off for a year, then I started adding protein and fat. It was so time consuming to write it all out.and figure calculations for recipes. emoticon Now I have the tools to remember all my favorites and calculate my recipes and it is wonderful. The more I use it the easier and quicker meal planning gets.

Another day another step closer to a healthy life.

The how of this team challenge lies in my tracking everyday consistenly. Just this first week alone I learned that when I look at the whole days consumption of food there is so much information that I could benefit from and make intelligent changes. Thank God for Tracking and the Overall Reports that give you such important information to save your life and improve your health.

the trackers help me balance the food, i could eat grains/starch carbs all day long and really have to work in enough freggies, lean meats and even healthy fats. and i love we can track other things like the salt and fats. do wish we could track total sugars. i am trying to understand that better.

Still working hard. I've kind of lost track as to what week I'm actually on. I've been tracking my food and exercise daily for nearly 2 months. I've reached the point where I actually want to go to the gym. I feel so much better afterwards and I'm really starting to see major improvements in the distance and time that I can do on things like the elliptical. I'm up to 50 minutes and burning around 600 kcal. I try to do it at least 3x/wk and sometimes make it 4x. Foodwise, I'm learning a lot about portion sizes and carbo content. Still getting a bit confused as my nutritionist told me to not go under 1500 kcal/ day, have carbos be 40% of my diet (not 50%) and eat 30g carbs per meal with 2 15 carb snacks. Well if I do that, it's a 1200 kcal day not 1500. Not sure what I should be doing. I can't believe I'm having the problem of reaching my 1500 kcal goal. Tonight I actually found myself more than 200 kcal short so I treated myself to a carmel-nut balance bar (yumm. they are like eating a sneakers bar, but better for you).
My one frustration continues to be my morning fasting blood sugars. I have seen some improvement, but they are still way too high. I was getting 175-182's. The last few days, they are about 159. The rest of the day, they are in the 119-150 range which are ok as I'm not fasting then.
My last big news is that as of today, I have lost 20 lbs since I actively started working on all this!

I love the trackers, but the Nutrition Tracker is OUTSTANDING! I have been avoiding monitoring my food intake for quite some time. I simple hate keeping track of it. The SP Nutrition Tracker makes it so easy! I find myself looking forward to seeing the breakdown on the graphs and it challenges me to stay on target. I LOVE IT!!!!

One suprising thing that I have noted is that I am actually eating rather low carb without having to adjust much. My diet has not changed that much except for the amounts. I am still eating the things I want and enjoy for the most part. Portion control has been my biggest enemy in the past.

I am not currently diabetic, but I am at high risk for it. I have PolyCystic Ovaries Syndrome and a family history of Diabetes. I have a sister who is diabetic and have worked with diabetic patients and have witnessed the issues resulting from it. I am determine to make the necessary changes to preventing my developing Diabetes before it is too late.

I have educated myself about low-Glycemic eating . Just a little weight loss can have significant impact on the controlling of how your body utilizes glucose. As scary as Type II Diabetes can be, it is one of the diseases that is really influenced by weight management. I know what I need to do. It is just a matter of doing it. The trackers are great tools to help me to stay focused. I really feel that they are going to definitely help me in reaching my weight loss goals.

According to Aristotle, "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit." I say, "So is Failure."

I, too, love this challenge; however, I have been stuck on Week 3 for 3 weeks. I still need to watch and do the videos. First it was vein surgery in one leg and then last week a bad Urinary track infection that sent my blood sugar soaring. I also suspect the Cipro aided in the rise. Now I am almost back to normal and will watch and do the videos. Also, on Thursday I will be traveling to a wedding in Nebraska and when I return, I will have the vein in my other leg done. That takes me away from strenuous exercise for about 10 days. This time of year I am in the pool for water jogging. I will complete this challenge and I intend to be a regular as it provides me with a great motivator and plan.

I am in week 3 and already seeing results in my blood sugar readings. Today 105. I never see numbers like that. I feel kinda yucky, but I sure it is beacuse my body is not used to being in a normal range. My dream is to not let diabetes destroy my health like I have watched it do to my father. I am so proud of myself for sticking to this plan for 3 weeks now and I am so happy to have all of the support I get from Spark People. Looing forward to week 4.

I love all the trackers....I love how it does all the math for me....I put in what I eat and "poof" it shows and tallies up all the calories, carbs, fats etc....I really like seeing at the end of each day the totals because it keeps me in check....like no you really can not eat a snack...or yea you can! The only thing that isn't working for me is the amount of carbs per meal....when I eat that many my BS goes thru the roof... so I eat less carbs and just eat more frequently and that keeps the BS lower....

This is such an easy way for me to track my carbs at each meal and snack. I have learned what I have to cut out of my diet completely and what I have to cut back on. I have started eating more fruits and vegetables. I've also been drinking more water. I use the smart phone app, so I always have access to the tracker. My fasting blood sugar is usually in the 90's and low 100's and has remained there, but who knows, maybe I will eventually see it start to go down a bit.

Love the Nutrition Tracker. It makes it so easy to know exactly how many calories, carbs I am eating, and shows me what I am deficient in...like calcium and minerals.

And it does keep me more accountable. emoticon

The nutrition tracker has really helped me be accountable for every thing that I put in my mouth. It makes a difference to know what different things really add up to. Like Chinese food is now off my radar.

I have learned (or reiterated as I think I already knew) that I was eating way to much. Also that some of the things that I thought were good for me to eat aren't really. My biggest eye opener was trading items out. Like egg whites for whole eggs. I can have more egg whites which feels me up and is less calories.

The feedback really helps me as it breaks down the reasons behind the reasons I need to stay within range.

The nutrition tracker keeps me totally on target and, more importantly, in balance! I love that I can decide on my evening snack based on nutritional needs.

I've learned that my body performs better when I eat 4x a day and that before I began tracking, I was eating waaaay too much bread and cheese.

I've been much more mindful of my protein, fibre and carbs since I began tracking.

I was hospitalized two and 1/2 months ago with a BG of 70 mmol/l (1261 mg/dl) which was a new record for our hospital. For the past month, my average BG is 4.8 mmol (87) and although I've had a few low drops due to exercise, I've had no spikes over 7 (126). My Dr. And my Endo are thrilled and both have said they'll recommend Spark to patients.

My insulin units have dropped from 12 units of humalog with each meal to 8 units with breakfast and lunch and 7 units with dinner and my humalog has dropped from 32 units to 25 units (20 if I'm lower than 4.5 at bedtime)

I find the Spark diabetes program invaluable. Although I value the diabetic training centre I'm attending, I find out much more here.

I need input. I like this web page and challenge because I find I can work it in and it is flexible. I have been spending all my time doing exercise in my pool, water jogging and running at least an hour every day and sometimes even longer. I do not break up the time. It is pure running. My legs are bad and that is why I am in the pool. This week I put off the video for this challenge so that I could take advantage of the water and will continue to do this daily next week. The reason for that is that next Friday, July 6 I will have laser surgery done on my left leg. The vascular surgeon will be closing off a deep vein and I cannot do aerobic running, jumping, etc for 10 days. I cannot get my leg wet in pool because of possible infection and of course no long distance traveling for fear of blood clots.
I need exercise suggestions. I have been able to cut my insulin (Lantus) intake by 6 units the past three weeks and maintain my weight. I am gaining pretty good record also of keeping my FBS at 100 and below. If they have gone over 100, I know why and fix it. My daytime highs have not been going over 180 so I am doing something right since I had to go off meteformin. I want to keep on this track so please some exercise suggestions would be welcome.

I changed from tracking WW points to using the Spark People tracker. The WW tracker's lack of true carb accounting made me make the change. Because of the way it is charted I know that my legumes cause my BG to increase higher than a potato. Rice, also causes my BG level to go higher then polenta. With this tool I very well may be able to control with very little insulin now that I can no longer tolerate the oral meds.

The nutrition tracker helps me to see where I am at, how balance or imbalanced I am eating, and where I can improve. I recently realized that I have been eating less calories in my meals than my snacks and I am in the process of adjusting that. I have to be less afraid of eating larger amount of calories in a meal, because if I skimp, I am more likely to eat a lot of snackage calories!

My blood glucose numbers have been consistently lower since I restarted Spark. I am logging my food every day (even my splurges) and taking my medicine more regularly. I have done some sort of activity every day, and I am feeling way more energetic! My weight has not dropped in the past 2 weeks, but I have lost inches. I don't know how many inches I've lost since I started this challenge. I just measured on Monday and again on Friday (yes, I'm an overanxious nerd), and had already lost 5.5 inches total. In one week!! Holey moley.
So I definitely have some good motivation going. I need to be way more fit by August, for my job (elementary school counselor). New hair today, Good goals in sight, and a great attitude. T

Now I'll just have to star this post for those days when I'm feeling down & discouraged!

My Yesterday VENT......

A TEN hour doctor visit, that really only took 15 mns. Yesterday was my doctor check up rom when I fell & hurt my knee. My appointment was at 1:00PM. I got there about 12:30PM. So I waite. I took along my crochet bag & crocheted as I waited. At that mommet he didnt even go in to see the guy who had the 10AM appointment. 2:00PM came & went. He finally got to the 10am guy. I waited & crocheted some more. 3:00PM came & went. He was still in with the 10am guy. I waited & crocheted some more. 4:00PM came & went & he was still with the same guy. There was 4 people ahead of me. So I waited & crocheted some more. Then he finished with that guy & moved on to the next one. She took 1 1/2 hours. Then he moved on to the next one. 6:30, 7:00 & 8:00PM came & went. In between all theses hours the wanna be MMA fighter guys came & wanted to get their check ups because they are so SPECAIL . NOT. I was still waiting. By this point I ran out of YARN, had not eaten lunch or DINNER. Luckily I was now the only one in the WAITING room. I had to whole cough to myself. I had to the t.v. on, I was watching my favorite shows. I was laying down not comfy at ALL for the next 3 1/2 hours. Then came 10:45PM. I was told am next. It took another 15 mins before he got to me. I thought I would be there for the next 1 to 2 hours. But NO I was in & out in 15 MINUTES. I was happy & upset at the same time. I was happy he said my knee looked good. No call for seeing a knee doctor, just to take it easy & be more careful. I was also happy I lost 2... TWO more pounds. But yes I did,, the first & only meal I had all day was BREAKFAST at 7:30AM. My next meal wasn't until after MIDNIGHT. I was mad because when all the other ones got 2, 3 or even 4 hours of his time,,, I only got 15 MINS. Just like by that time I wasn't worth his time. I so need a new doctor & am tired

emoticon A few days into week 3.

Last night I started feeling strange, a lil confused I was home alone. My thinking was slow and my eye and cheek started twitching, I felt like I was in slow motion.........It dawned on me to check my blood sugar. It has been a very long time since I experienced this feeling. YEP, blood sugar 63, which I know is too low for me.

Waiting for the Dr. to call me back with some med changes. I know this is actually a good thing. However this morning I'm feeling a tad sorry for myself because I WAS NOT PREPARED!

I ate a tuna sandwich?? Whew really? My hubby came home about that time, Thank Goodness! Blood sugar went down to 55........Duh? He was like "Juice, pop, glucose tablets" OH yea, now I remember. It has been a long time since I have had LOW numbers.

This morning I'm like "Hello!" Week 3 Snacks - Better get into that TODAY!!

Whew, have a good day.

I love the tracker! I really like tracking my food. I have never counted calories before only carb choices. I'm learning a lot!! Mustard is now a new staple!!

I have found out I don't get enough protein, or enough carbs throughout the day.

I don't have enough fruits and veg's sooooo I put them in smoothies! Yea, and I can freeze leftovers in a mason jar for another day. I've made many diff flavors.

On to Week 3? Snacks? Hmm

Week 3 starts today and am discouraged to say the least. Blood sugars were 116 fasting each morning until today was 134 and post dinner 116 - 120 all week. I stay in my calorie range every day and I get my exercise, even backed off the exercise by slowing it down as my fitness tracker kept telling me I was over doing it. Since today was weight day was sad to see I gained the 2 pounds I had lost back! Yet I have lost 3 inches off my waist? Go figure! I am not a typical person and I know that, still it is hard mentally and emotionally, to see the weight go up and the inches go down and hear people tell you "that's not possible - you are doing something wrong". Week 1 when I was doing cardio exercises faster, I felt better and energized; week 2 when I slowed it down I felt sluggish and tired all the time, think I am going back to the week 1 rate, to heck with all the red warnings on the fitness tracker - I want to feel energized again!

Every thing is possible, what slows you down is the probability factor. So why let that get in your way?

I have used the Nutrition Tracker since day 1 and I have learned so much about what I am eating. I found out on my "splurge" day that when I had ribs from a restaurant that I had eaten a ridiculous amount of calories and that splurging did not have to mean gluttinous. I learned that the yeast rolls at Ryan's were 340 calories a piece. I had 2 one day (680 calories, the most I ate at the restaurant). My FBS was 180 and above a week before I started SparkPeople and my doctor told me to increase my medicine. Since starting, my blood sugar reading has only been above 200 (the day I started) and my fasting blood sugars have been 88 - 125 and my doctor allowed me to stay at my current medicine level. My goal is to get off the meds completely. I am more aware and more determined to get this right. Thank you, SparkPeople!

Had a busy day..Got in 1-1/2 hour of walking the treadmill. However sometimes in this busy days my blood sugar gets higher then normal. this morning 114 that was because of my late popcorn and almonds attack last night..You live and learn..Sometimes hunger doesn't understand that.

I have done well with my fluids and I have not eaten late at night. Blood sugar was around 110 in the evening, but was up to 137 in the morning- go figure!

I hear you Valleyite! I have been working out daily and my weight is unmoved. Just have to keep at it. If you are converting fat to muscle, muscle looks better but weighs more than fat so you may be firming up but the weight looks like it has not changed.

I understand your frustration, do you know if you have lost any inches? When doing Weight Watchers, I was told you can't lose inches and weight at the same time. I am just starting out and find it helpful to read other's posts. Wishing you success soon.

Doing good, tracking my food and exercising, however puzzled about the fact that I haven't lost. That is disappointing emoticon I hope that soon I will see that needle on the scale move some.
