Outstanding job so far. Normal A1C should be between 5.0 and 6.0 so you are right in the middle. Terrific.

I hope to be as strong as you someday. I am trying desperately to not become diabetic as it is in my family and my mother passed away due to complications from diabetes. I am on my way to a new and healthier life.

Luck to all of us! And...the hard work to get there should give us strength!

Onward and Downward...one step at a time.

Hello everyone, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes early in 2014. At the time, my A1C was 14.9 and my fasting blood sugar reading was nearly 400! I weighed 287 pounds. Since then, I've taken control of my health and my life. I started exercising. At first, just a very short, leisurely stroll was a workout. Then I joined a gym and started participating in the "silver sneakers" classes designed for senior citizens, even though I'm not a senior citizen. At the time, it was the most strenuous exercise I could do. But I kept pushing myself, and now I walk a mile outside daily, do 45 minutes of cardio in the gym, then resistance training (alternating upper body and lower body daily), and finish with some stretching and yoga.

I've also completely changed my diet - no sugar and very few grains, basically no fruit, but lots of non-starchy veggies and lean protein. Oh and water, lots of water.

My fasting blood sugar is usually in the 90's now, and my A1C is down to 5.6! I feel so much better. I still need to lose 67 pounds. This challenge should be fun!
