I had to do virtual race on treadmill, but did do 3.1 miles in 27 min.

Outside I do walking as when I try running this time of year I have asthma complications.

Did it in 44 minutes! First mile went great (12 minutes and a bit) but then I got a pain in my knee and walked most of the rest of the way. I'm going to keep training, but I did it!

Today was my D1 of W5 but when I got to the end of the 36 minutes I was only 2 laps short of the 5k goal so I kept on running until I did it.

45 minutes - I got 2 more days this week to improve my time, but it feels great to have done it!

Sept. 3 - 43 minutes today. I didn't stick to the numbers but ran as long as I felt good. Most runs were 4-5 minutes instead of 3, and recovery walks 1-2 minutes although I threw in one 3min walk when my heartrate was really high.

I DID IT. Me. I ran a 5k. And did not die. I am very very proud right now.

I didn't stick around for my official time, but my watch gave me 39:17. Respectable. My goal was under 40. I was secretly hoping to beat my best training time of 39:00, but I didn't anticipate how much harder it is to run in the heat. We have been training at 5am, before the sun is fully up and before the wind kicks in. It was somewhere around 90 degrees and there was very little shade on the route. When we were heading east for the last mile, the wind was strong and right at our faces. During my last two intervals, I did a little walking to catch my breath during the running portion, so I know I can do better if I keep training.

My two girls ran too. They said they came in at 37 minutes, just a couple ahead of us. They are going to start training with me for the next one. I am so proud of them for doing it. I am proud of us as a family for making healthy changes.

I used to tell people that I only run when chased by a bear. I have said hundreds of times that I am not a runner. I haven't run more than 10 steps in 20 years before starting this training 6 weeks ago. I don't feel like a great runner, but now I can proudly say I am a runner.

I am so thankful to Sparkpeople for inspiring me!

Finished my first 5K today. It took me 50:10 but I am so thrilled that I finished! I followed the walk 2 min run 3 min model & did start out a little too fast with the first walk set, the excitement of all the people got to me. The route was 2 laps around town so the start/finish was also the 1/2 way point. Kind of weird to know that I was only 1/2 done when there were so many who were already finished.

I actually did my first 5 mile walk/jog race last thursday. It was good but harder in a group setting than doing it by yourself , because you feel the pressure of the other participants. I love it and look forward to doing more.

If you can give but one gift, make it the gift of a good example.

I had my own private 5k tonight.
I had planned to just walk and then I thought, what the heck?! It turned out like my first real 5k, where I really had to go to the bathroom. I kept passing my house thinking I could wait, but then I had a pain in my side and I couldn't wait. After a quick trip the pain was gone and my last lap was my best.
It still took me 51 minutes, longer than my first, though I take solice in the fact that it was actually 3.3 miles.

I used my interval training from the program and stepped it up a notch with my timing to do my 2nd 5k race yesterday to help benefit local students with scholarship money. It was called Dollars Scholars and the people who run it did a good job and are asking for feedback to help improve the experience each year. I believed I've motivated my son into training with me to undertake this race again next year- but as walkers together.

I did the walk/run intervals and beat my previous race time last month in the Chevy Shuffle 5k race by 3 minutes!!!! I clocked in at 35:42 and somehow managed to come in 1st place in my age division of 40-49. For me I was proudest of myself for sticking with it and doing it, since the heat & humidity have really kicked up here and training has been brutal with the heat wave. Beating my previous time was all I needed to do as my goal but I won't lie getting that ribboned medal and gift card makes for an emoticon 44th birthday gift to myself- since tomorrow I hit that landmark age. Not bad for a person who's NEVER done athletics for fear of failure.

I completed my first 5K today finishing in 41 minutes 12 seconds. I was so happy, I beat my training time. It was a beautiful day, excellent running weather with nice dry air and cool. Now I want to sign up for another one!

Congrats to everyone so far!

I ran my first 5k ever on Saturday (May 28). I completed the 5k run/wak for the Autisim Society of Central VA. It was awesome! I finished at 42.19 and came in 436 out of approximately 1700 participants. I was #50 for my age division. It was the best time. I completed it with one of my dearest friends. It has been a goal for both of us and it feels so good to achieve it!

My next race, because it is becoming an obsession to beat my time lol, is on June 18. I will be doing it for a local residential theraputic foster home. A friend of mine has graciously agreed to do it with me. I look forward to beating my time!

Good luck everyone!

Used my new pedometer and finished in 50 minutes walk/run. Hope to find an official 5K sometime this year to see how I do.

Carolyn

Happy to be on my way to a healthier life!

Ran my first 5K on Mother's Day (Y-Me Breast Cancer Race in Chicago). 39:02 minutes. At about the first mile mark, my ankles started bothering me and I walked a bit of the way. I was kind of mad at myself that I wasn't able to push through it. I'm planning on running another race in June. I go for 2-3 mile run/walks at least 4 times a week, so I'm hoping to improve my time. My goal is to be able to run the Y-Me Race next year in under 33 minutes.

I did it! I finished the full 5k in 45 minutes and I felt great when I finished! I am really looking forward now to next week when I run in a real 5k and see how I do and what my time is there.
