Tomorrow I will walk my two miles. Yesterday I took a Pilates class followed by 20 minutes on the stationary bike. Tonight I'm contemplating 15 minutes on the elliptical.

Congrats, Itsybitsy, and everyone else who's on track!

Got all my walking n this week. The two miles tonite was great. very very slow of course, but I'm going the distance so I am happy and I can do the race, I'm sure. Lots of fun having the goal to work towards.

Yes, risk taking is inherently failure-prone. Otherwise, it would be called sure-thing-taking.

After work I will walk for 2 miles and track my time. I am hoping that my time will improve.

Last night I took a late walk with my sons. Walking with someone can be very motivating.

Hi, this is my first time interacting with this team. I'm in week 2, day 4, so I'm just cross training today. I still walk on my odd days too. This is an awesome way to learn to walk more!

I did my 1.75-mile walk this morning and got a bit of a blister on my heel. I will now look for those made-for-walking socks to invest in. I don't wish to have worse blisters when I do my 5k.

I'll do my 2-mile walk on Thursday or Friday, depending on the weather. :)

Today is supposed to be my rest day. However, I have so much to do around the house I could hardly call it that. At some point I am going to need to back my calendar up to repeat a week. I am still a bit sore, but I had an insight as to the reason, so I may complete the next week, and then do my repeat so that my training coincides with my race. As it stands My race day is scheduled nine days prior to the end of training (a bit backwards). As there are no races in my area I plan to complete the training and then do a race virtually in some form (once I figure that one out).
Best wishes to all fellow team members. emoticon

One week makes SUCH a difference! I already feel my endurance getting better, my energy level is up, and my weight loss has slowed down where it should be. I'm convinced the first few days I shed my excess water weight, yet another perk!

Hi, fellow walkers/runners! I began week two with some cross-training yesterday (biked half an hour outside, mostly against the wind). I was able to do a two-mile walk a few days ago, so I'm expecting to be able to move on to adding a bit to that this week, or at least repeat that.

I completed Day six of my third week it was the 2 mile walk. I monitored myself closely because my previous walk took me twice as long and my heart rate escalated. Additonally, the following morning the front of my calves were extremely painful. However, today I was less stressed going in, and more relaxed with walking. I completed in with my usual average time and felt no major effects. I did, however, have an ahha moment. I realized that part of my problem was when I became anxious and felt the need to hurry because others were waithing I would change out of my regular stride, and put more force into my movements. I will never be fast, and that is fine, but I am learning a great deal about how my body reacts.

Hello Again Marshastar,

Yes Naturalizers are another great shoe. For Masons I'm not sure how they sell them-a phone # is 800-428-2000. My husband, grandson, and I went shoe shopping today. My grandson and I got new pairs of Nike's. We're lucky to have our grandson with us now, they live in Richmond, VA., they are leaving tomorrow.

Tomorrow I'll be doing my first day of week 5, 40 minutes, and I've got a new pair of shoes to try out!!

God Bless,

Sunny

ohhh I appreciate good advice! THANK you.

My current shoes are Adidas , and while they may look great they don't fit great.

Mason's shoes? I haven't heard of those. Is there a special store for those?
My feet don't hurt at all,
but I just seem to not be walking properly. Like VEGASLADY i feel like I'm walking stiff legged.
My fav. pair of shoes were a pair of Naturalizer leather oxfords I wore until they fell apart.
I haven't found another pair like those.

Hello Marshastar,

Honey your shoes are soooooo very important, and if they are good shoes they will help protect everything while you walk. You need to go to a Walking or Running Shoe Store and buy them. I hate to tell you but you can't go to Walmart and buy a cheap pair. I'm a Walmart person myself, I love Walmart; but your shoes have to be good ones when you are a Walker.

I am 55+ and I wear only Mason's shoes, hi-heals, sandals, all my shoes are GOOD shoes; because I have found out that my feet don't have to hurt at all, ever. So tell me what you think now. I want to know if I am overstepping my bounds in telling you this.

A Happy Feet Person, ;-)

Sunny

ohh VEGASLADY, my 2 mile walk took 70 minutes, so we are quite close in our walking time.
I know what you mean about the knees.
I think MY problem is my walking shoes and my bad posture. I've been walking indoors for awhile (vigorous '"marching" - not just strolling)
- wearing my indoor shoes , and haven't had knee problems. I think I need to splurge on some real quality workout shoes, or walking / running shoes.
Okay DIANA, I'll let you know if I get through the 2.25 walk... let us know how yours goes!

P.S. oh my gosh DEB, I could never do that. You're probably in a lot better shape !!!

I guess because I started the training on Saturday, the site pushed me to week 2 before I could do week 1. Not to worry, I'm working on getting both done at once. I'll tuck week 1 days into weeks 2 and 3. I hope that works! I also learned about a 5K walk here in town the week of April 10...so I will have an "official" walk to do! WooHoo

I did my Week 2 Day 2 1.75mi walk but it took me 40 minutes to complete. My knees hurt so much that I was barely moving by the time I had finished. I'm giving it my best shot and hope that they will improve, they just don't want to bend so it's almost like I'm walking stiff legged.

Way to go MARSHASTAR and Hungrywoman. Keep up the great work. We did the "plank" at work on our break instead of walking. It's raining today and it is icy on the sidewalks. Will come home tomorrow and do day 3 of week 2. Will have to start week 3 on Saturday though and have no day rest in between. Check in tomorrow night again.

I made it to the gym in a flurry of activity and anxiety. I made it a point to stay a little below my maximum heart rate because once it begins to rise it rises quickly. I was anxious about keeping my ride waiting, and would find it necessary to slow myself fairly often. I actually completed 1.79 miles instead of the 1.75. My usual pace has slowed. On my next day of cross training, I may repeat this exercise in order to evaluate my training plan. emoticon

I am getting ready to go to the gym for Day 3. It will probably not be a fast paced walk, as I am still testing my endurance level. The plan is to work, but not to overdo. I am sore from yesterday.
I completed a great deal around the house in addition to the gym workout I completed.

Today is week 2 day 2 for me. I walked 25 minutes again in order to determine how much of yesterday's fatigue factor played in my heart rate escalating during the last two minutes. I am getting ready to compare time, but I didn't struggle. I then rode the recumbent bike 20 minutes before some quick stretches.

I did Week 2 Day 2 last night. Debating whether I want to do Day 3 today or wait until Wednesday. If I do it today that would put me back on my Tues, Thurs, Sat, schedule and I would start Week 3 on Thursday. I guess I'll make that decision when I get to the gym tonight.

I walked the track two days in a row, and my legs are feeling it! Yesterday I did the 1.75 miles; today I did the 2 miles (3rd day of 2nd week.) After a day of rest, I'll move onto the 3rd week.
