I have three preps and I help coordinate a program on campus.

I think in high school two preps is ideal personally.

Right now I'm doing four sections of British Lit. I have one study hall and one prep. It's super nice though by the fourth reading of Hamlet I'm ready to give up!

Welcome to my world: self-contained 5th grade

I prep for-
Science

Social studies

Writing

ELA (grammar & spelling--not allowed to be included in writing)

Reading (whole class, read aloud, and 5 leveled reading groups that I meet with 4 days a week)

Math (whole class daily plus 2 days a week of added small math groups plus 3 days a week with all of the 5th grade honors math kids from the grade level) So, Monday and Friday I have 3 math periods with 3 different sets of kids and 7 groups/topics to cover!

ummm...does this explain the 20 pounds I put on???

150- New skinny jeans 'cause my old ones will be too baggy! :)

I too am elementary. I do partner with another teacher - I do her Science; she does my history. I also prep Math, Reading, Language: English, writing, spelling, handwriting. Plus I will be prepping an RTI group everyday,

But our special area teachers are now seeing over 700 students a day. They are teaching 4 grade levels in our building and traveling to another school to teach 2-3 additional classes.

I have kids with moderate disabilities (some with autism included). I prep for math, reading, writing, plus deal with behavior goals and social skills. They all go to gen. ed. SS and science so I modify all the materials for those classes. I do this for students from k-5 so I can't even count. I plan more by ability, although I tie as much as I can to what is being taught in gen. ed. at the time.

So sorry for you all! Thanks for working so hard to give our kids a great education. It's so much work. This is my 30th year, and I don't prep at all anymore during the school year. I tweak/reorganize my lessons and dig up new material in the summer so that it's all organized and ready to go. Of course grading is a different problem -- that takes endless time no matter how much prep you can skip!

I teach self-contained, Autism specific. In a 6 period class day I have:
functional lit
functional math
life skills
science
social studies
social adaptations

How can I teach 6 classes in a day with no prep? They go to APE one period and I have to double up Life Skills with Lit and Math (my arranging in order to have prep).

The only way to stay ahead of it is to plan on Sunday night, do whole units at a time (but allow for some changes as you go), and don't work a 2nd job on top of it (like I do).

I was seriously debating taking a teacher's edition and my digital recorder to the gym and planning on the treadmill today! Instead, I didn't make it to the gym at all and I'll be paying for it tomorrow.

"My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky.
"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity." - from "The Alchemist" by Paolo Coelho

Nflatte, your schedule is the reason I left elementary school!! I can't imagine doing that EVERY DAY!!!! We middle school teachers usually have only 2 or 3 preps. I teach 2 periods of 7th grade math, 2 periods of 7th grade Health (next semester will be Life Science) and 1 period of remedial math, so I only have 3 preps. Of course, within one classroom I've got kids from Far Below Basic math skills to almost Advanced math skills, so that requires quite a bit of differentiation. But the school still only calls it one prep.
