Well, some dna came back saying my sister has a 'close relative' that does not fall under the category of our cousin or her daughter.
Unfortunately, this woman's birth-date is only one month after my oldest sister was born. The timing is not something I'm excited about, I can tell you. I struggle with possibly falsely accusing my father. Would NEVER want to do that. Both he and mom are gone now...can't decide if that's a curse (because we can't question him) or a blessing (because they didn't have to find this out).

If true, the general consensus is that he didn't know a child existed, because we feel he would have provided for her. I know my grandma privately told me that Dad gave her money regularly, so maybe he would have taken responsibility for this girl, too.

Ugh. I have so much going on that I'm trying to organize and deal with, I wasn't ready for a 'New Project" !!!!!

I was hoping to keep it quiet until we had better confirmation but my oldest sister came by for a talk and informed me that she already told allllll her kids. So, because hers and mine hang out together, that forced my hand and we had to 'break the news' much earlier than I would have liked. TICKED ME OFF.
Then, two of my adult children had found out from their adult cousins. TICKED ME OFF AGAIN.
If you only knew how awesome my kids think their grandparents were, you would understand why this had to be handled delicately.
Good grief.
I'll gladly welcome this woman in, but I just don't have the energy and frame of mind to do it this minute and my sisters are kinda pressuring me. Thing is, THEY were in on this from the beginning of the dna mystery and as it slowly unfolded, so they have been cozied up to this woman for like, three weeks. While, to me, the AncestryDNA results just came on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, so THAT should have been the BEGINNING of 'knowing'.
This woman is already asking why my youngest sister and I haven't been in contact and asked the others if we were dealing with the news okay.

Good grief! To me this is BRAND NEW, and not really officially confirmed. WHY would I jump right in and pretend like I've known her all my life. lol

And then, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking. You know what, you don't even come here and visit me 1-2 miles away, don't invite me to YOUR house, rarely call...WHY is it you're excited about a new sister exactly? lol They just love a good mystery and seem all caught up in it.
Well, I guess some changes are brewing. Hope I can keep up with it all.
My daughter, who is working in Texas right now, is actually closer to her than I am. I should send her for a visit. Luckily, this woman does like to travel, so maybe she'll come to us.
I might have to buy another chair for the Genie Room, eh?

And we all lived happily ever after...

That is true. They continue to test and retest. I was intrigued by a mysterious find in one families DNA. Seems the grandfather was switched at birth. Both families involved found out and were able to fill in missing pieces.

@SUSANSKI My understanding is that the more they do, the more accurate the whole thing will become. There are some good videos on youtube about people who learned a lot they didn't want to learn or have proof that it's just plain wrong. There again, it's hard to tell how much of that is real and how much is drama, but I figure there must some fire around with all that smoke.

I don't know how reliable they are considering some results I have seen put on Facebook (though those could be false because they are about celebrities), but some I was reading were interesting. A little shocking, though. One found out a grandfather was actually the next door neighbor. That was getting pretty specific.

How reliable can these be? Does anyone suspect scams?
Seems a lot of people are finding they have 'half-siblings' suddenly discovered. I find that not very credible.

As stated, I didn't really "learn" anything but more like verify. Even then it wasn't final and I guess never will be. About two weeks after I received it, they updated it and the update was very much in line with what I already suspected or knew.

It has helped me verify a whole lot of my ancestors. I found through DNA matches that I am correct in the research I'd done on my Great Grandparents. No surprise I am 45% German and 45 % English with a smattering of other nationalities.

I was looking at Facebook and the Genealogy group had a question about this and I thought it was interesting. Thought maybe what people on here who did DNA had learned. So my question is, if you did DNA testing, what did you learn from it re: your ancestry?
