yes, thank you, I am aware, plus I joke that one of my ancestors ran for the hills whenever a censor taker came to townLOL He was my third gr.grandfather. Supposedly in the civil war, but I haven't found him. =/

STRNGNGRNDED thanks for passing it along to your friend. Kentucky was originally part of Virginia as was Tennessee. Borders change. Also, land grants moved a lot of people.

I have forwarded the article to a friend of ours. Her family is McDowell and in KY. Not sure if my family is connected in anyway, I don't think so, though I do have family that was in VA, then TN, then KY due to various reasons.

Build up the Culture of Life!
We can change hearts, by bringing up the next generation to embrace Life at an early age.
If only moral people are willing to do that, mass abortion will end.

The entire article is pretty long but it takes you step by step through the process. If you are related to the McDowell family, this may be your chance to take part in a family research project.

Is it YOU?

If you are male or female and descended from Michael McDowell Jr. born in 1747 and died after 1840 in Claiborne County, Tennessee (now Hancock County), please contact me.
If you are male or female and descended from Edward McDowell who married Lucy Harris in 1811 in Pulaski County, KY and died in 1858 there, please contact me.
If you are male or female descended from Luke McDowell born in 1791 who married Frances Field in 1811 in Pulaski County, KY and died in 1879 in Dekalb County, TN, please contact me.

If you are a male McDowell descended from Michael McDowell Jr.ís proven son, John McDowell or William McDowell from Claiborne (now Hancock) County, Tennessee, or Johnís line that settled in Lee County, VA, please contact me.

The only way to prove Michael Sr.ís line is to first prove Michael Jr.ís line, and to do that, I specifically need to find a male McDowell, meaning a male who carries the surname today, from a proven son of Michael Jr.

In the meantime, if we can prove that either a group of people, either males or females proven to descend from Michael Jr., through autosomal DNA testing, matches our McDowell Y DNA tester descended through Edward, especially on the same segments, that too is pretty compelling evidence.

The only way to compile that evidence is for descendants to test.

Is that you? If so, please contact me and letís discuss how we can get that done, or maybe youíve already DNA tested someplace. Regardless, Iíd love to hear from you. Itís always fun to meet cousins and exchange information!
