Today is the birthday of King Richard I. He was the King in the story of Robin Hood's time and his Brother John took over whilest Richard was away.

John became lord of Ireland, and, when Richard was imprisoned in Germany on his way back from the Third Crusade, he tried to seize control of England (1193). On Richard's return, John was banished (1194), but the two were later reconciled.

This is one of the oldest and most written and rewritten stories in history. Folktale doesn't even begin to describe how loved these characters are or how hated. If it were not for the folktales would we even know these names or these men or who they were. How many kings of England can you name and for each name you can come up with how much of their story (accomplishments) can you talk about? Odds are the Kings you can name and tell about their lives are the ones whose stories have been told in literature, folktale, and turned into movies. Same with Queen Elizabeth and Mary of Scots.

Write about your favorite folktale, fairytale, childhood story. Who read it to you for the first time? Did you read it for yourself? What kind of princess/knightly fantasies did you have as a child?

I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me! Philippians 4:13 Praise God!
