Like many others I have many movies that I truly enjoy watching but my favorite movie that I have ever seen of all time would hands down have to be "BEACHES."

There are a lot of movies out there that I could have chosen that have great special effects such as "ALIEN" or excellent scenery such as "Lord of the Rings" but I chose "BEACHES" because it is a story that I would eventually live through in a way. When I watched it for the first time I related so completely with the character played by Bette Midler that I watched it 5 times in theaters. I took a different friend or family member each time as an excuse to see this movie again and again.

The bond is so real in that they get mad at each other (the two friends). They fight and argue and disappoint each other between the good times but they come out ALWAYS still friends. They have a long distance relationship for a large part of the movie that I could relate to because we moved away from my siblings when I was 14. I went from being the youngest of 4 to being basically a very lonely only child right at the start of my high school years.

This stuck me with long distance relationships that were through actual paper and pen letter writing because the internet was not in every home across America and I had to wait a week to get a letter. I would write and stamp and mail my letters away and wait.

This is a loving, heartfelt story of two unlikely best friends that will make you laugh and make you cry. Rent it! It is awesome. It is also a chick-flick.

On August 31, 1897, Thomas Edison received a patent for the kinetographic camera, “a certain new and useful Improvement in Kinetoscopes,” the forerunner of the motion picture film projector. Edison and his assistant, W. K. L. Dickson, had begun work on the project—to enliven sound recordings with moving pictures—in hopes of boosting sales of the phonograph, which Edison had invented in 1877. Unable to synchronize the two media, he introduced the kinetoscope, a device for viewing moving pictures without sound—on which work had begun in 1889. Patents were filed for the kinetoscope and kinetograph in August 1891.

The kinetoscope (viewer), which Edison initially considered an insignificant toy, had become an immediate success about a decade earlier. The invention was soon replaced, however, by screen projectors that made it possible for more than one person to view the novel silent movies at a time.

Our writing project for today is think about the best movie you ever saw. You can only pick ONE!! I know it is hard to pick just one but you have to chose. Write about the movie. What was it about the movie that made it stand out in your memory. Was it the special effects? Was it the awesome storyline? Was it a character driven story where the characters touched your heart? What makes a great story? Did you ever think about the many people that were involved to get to where we are today in the movie industry. Still pictures, moving pictures (silent at first), moving pictures with sound (black and white), Moving pictures in color, stereo sound, surround sound, technocolor, 3-D, Animation, Computer Graphics, special effects etc...we have come a long way over the years to be able to enjoy a mega motion picture like "Star Wars," "Alien," & "Lord of the Rings."

Have fun with your writing and thinking.
