Disasters are often thought of as "an Act of God" or "the Furry of Nature" but I don't think either. I think (and maybe this is because I have never personally lived through a truly devastating disaster) a believe that the greatest disaster to mankind is happening right now as we speak and breath. It is the individuality mentality that has come upon the citizens of this country. We are all so into ourselves that we don't give our neighbors a look.

Most people don't even know their neighbors' names. We drive around flipping off and getting flipped off, cursing at each other, killing each other, raping, stealing, abusing, divorcing, cheating on, and just in general treating each other like crap.

It is when a tornado, hurricane, flood, fire or disease comes down upon a community in mass destruction that we throw out the ME/I attitude and begin to reach out to one another with no regard to race, religion, sexual orientation, weight, sex, nationality or any other dividing lines within our society.

So the next time you hear that an "Act of God" has occurred or "the Furry/Force of Nature" has come down upon some community or your own community then maybe: just maybe it is a good thing and you and the people with in the disaster zone (me and mine included) can put aside the material possessions that we all covet and protect and begin to see the people around us and become a team with one common goal.

We are often our own worst enemy. Let's try to be more open to one another and not so rigid on our own thoughts and beliefs. This does not mean we have to change our own thoughts and beliefs just respect the thoughts and beliefs of others.

Today is the Anniversary of the destruction of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast and New Orleans. Take time to remember her victims today.

Our writing project for today is:

You may not have earthquakes in your area, but I bet there are some kind of natural disaster situations that you have to be aware of and prepare for each year. Maybe where you live is susceptible to hurricanes, tornadoes, forest fires, droughts, floods or even volcanic eruptions. Write about the natural disasters that can occur in your area, the devastation, the enduring human spirit, miracles, or any thing that you are inspired to write about having to do with some kind of disaster.

I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me! Philippians 4:13 Praise God!
