Tatoos can be removed by laser treatment but it takes a long time and is fairly expensive.

A lot of women who have had mastectomies have tatoos to cover the scarring. tiphero.com/breast-cancer-survivor-t

My daughter has a sea turtle, a mermaid and I think a sting ray across her back. They are covering some horrible home grown tattoos that she got as a teen without my permission. One of the tats was Indian Ink and it sprawled into a blob. The sea theme tats are beautiful. She had checked out places to have the blob tats removed. Most doctors just wanted to cut them out and leave a scar. I kept suggesting she just cover them. I am so thankful she listened.

My late husband had a tatoo on his upper arm. It was an eagle. My daughter has tattoos. Each lower leg has the full name and birthdate of her 2 sons, her wrist has the tree of life and the other wrist has 3-in-1 - the top symbol is Taurus (her star sign), middle is Venus (the planet she was born under) and the bottom is the Earth element symbol. The flowers are Hawthorn (one of her birth flowers)

So they are all meaningful to her.

I used to be squeamish about tattoos now, but if you really look at them, some are truly quite artistic. Usually, those people love to talk about their tats. I like to see if there is a story behind them. Often there is. One girl at Walmart had a white filigree tattoo around her neckline like a lacy necklace. It was stunning. I have never seen a white tattoo since.

I am wondering if getting tattoos is a way to desensitize to pain. That would be an interesting thought to explore. Maybe people need to get prescriptions for tattoos instead of taking opiates.

Unfortunately a lot of small towns are turning into cities in that people often can't be bothered communicating with strangers. I find it 'different.' As an example, on Thursday I was in the local Social Welfare Office while waiting to be seen was sitting next to a guy who was fully tattoo'd arms; legs; hands; skull; neck; chest; back. Only his face was untouched. I casually commented to him that he must have a high pain threshold. To start with he seemed stunned, then said "I have, actually" I then asked if it hurt much getting his head tatoo'd and with that he opened up and we had a lovely chat. He mentioned a lot of people won't talk to heavily tatoo'd people because they see them as dangerous. I just laughed and said a couple of the nicest people I know were laden with tats. You should have seen his smile and his eyes spoke. We had a lovely time chatting while waiting, and I could see that for him it was totally foreign to what he would have expected. Most people just keep themselves to themselves and stuff anybody else.

The people are very friendly in Rainier too. Most everyone will wave or say hi on the sidewalk. Here in SH, I have to work to get people to make eye contact. I grew up here too. Never occurred to me till post retirement dog walks that I was the same way. I have been making it a practice to greet most people. Said "hi" to a young man at the park today and he said "hi neighbor". Made my day.

I would guess there is a lot of fill sand under the parking lot. That whole side of the town (Rainier) is sitting on dredged sand from the Columbia River. With the creek overflowing too, that would make sense that it found a pocket to wash out.

Growing up, there was a section of highway just before entering that same little town that would sink 5-10 or more feet each year. Sometime in the 80s the highway department dug the whole area up and discovered it was sitting on old pilings. After they dug up all the rotting wood and filled with pit rock they have not had problems.

I have never lived in Rainier, but it is a pretty cool little town. I taught there for years and my cousins lived there. The highway splits the town in half. Everything above the highway sits on a very steep hill. Lot's of cool Victorian and Georgian homes mixed with mid century and other era homes. Below the highway (in the flood plain of the river) is most of the businesses, with a railroad track that runs down the middle of main street that houses the businesses. So, with the oil trains running at ten miles an hour through town you can easily get trapped on the wrong side of a train for 40 minutes. I loved eating lunch by the docks and watching the river action, but as soon as you heard the train whistle blaring, you had to skedaddle out of there.

Sink holes SOMETIMES happen as a result of flooding washing away the soil underneath. There are often little streams (and sometimes big ones) under the ground that we don't see, but that are affected by the heavy rains. The type of subterranean materials is also a cause - limestone is a common one that gets eroded underground. I guess we just have to hope that it doesn't affect our homes and feel for those whose homes are affected.

The sink hole was occurring near a creek next to the river in the parking lot of a brand new Grocery Outlet store. I am not sure what happened. The old grocery in the same location never had that problem, not even during the big flood of 96. Our county floods about every 9 years with major flooding about every 30 years. You would think the city officials would have that figured out by now when approving new construction.

I am glad dolphins have it figured out that some of this stuff we humans do is just for fun and silliness.

I worked yesterday and will today too. I tried to pace myself, but came home exhausted. I fell asleep at 7pm. I only worked 4.5 hours yesterday. Very glad that I do not have to work.. Just blessed to have a part time job for the fun of it with flexible hours. One of the partners in the tax office is my childhood friend. They only need someone part time at sporadic times which makes it hard to hire part time help. Basically, I am always on call for the next couple months.

Why does brain stuff exhaust us more than the physical stuff? Anyway I am enjoying the challenge even if my body and brain are protesting.

I've watched on TV where dolphins seemed to be enjoying the events.

I hope that the flooding, mud slides etc. have all been sorted out. Sink holes are pretty scary - you never no how big that cavity in the ground is. There have been some where the entire house(es) have ended up in them. You were lucky given that your house is the lowest point.

That will be fun. I always feel bad for the wildlife. I wonder if any of them find it exhilerating too.

We had a bunch of flooding yesterday. Lots mud slides, sink holes and wet basements in area. Despite the fact that the wetland next to me was filled and now my house is lowest point in neighborhood the contractors did the drains right and we had no flooding here.

I just saw in our local paper that the Thundercats are coming to in a week - so I will either just listen to them from here, or go to the next beach and watch them.

"I think you are cussin'" Yep - darned tootin' right I was LOL!

I don't know why but in the summer I find the sound of jet boats rather cooling.

I guess your son has found a way to help pay for his hobby LOL! That's cool.

Change is inevitable. Hope something else good comes along.

I can hear the jet skis on the river from my house. Other boats too, but when I hear the jet skis, I wonder if my son and his friend are out playing. Usually, on the weekends all friends and family are invited to the river beach to join them, but weekdays, he is usually testing motors before he goes to work. He and his buddy buy, repair, use and then sell their jet skis. He says it is the only way to pay for the gas.

During the summer holidays, and also normal summer week-ends, there are often speed boats roaring around in the harbour. I enjoy the deep grunty bark of their motors. My late hubby would race down when he heard them LOL!

I enjoy a water view, but unfortunately the 'A" Wipes over the road planted some trees so it has blocked MOST of my view of the water. Inconsiderate bleep bleep bleep.

If you live FIVE MINUTES from a swimming beach, I am coming over there and hauling you personally to the water to dip your toes in. I would say I am jealous, but I do live seven blocks from the river, although there is no swimming beach near me and it is pretty treacherous. Still, I have lots of water, kayaking, boating and a pool so no jealous complaints here.

I was pretty tired today, too, but I guess getting to sleep after 3a.m. and then having patchy sleep from about 0730a.m. does that to a person LOL!

I DID surprise myself tho'. I vacuumed; mopped all my lino (not that there is a lot LOL!) and cleaned the bathroom and loo. I struggled to finish it but it hadn't been done in a while so needed to be done. AND it was a bit cooler so more pleasant temp. to do it in than if I leave it till later.

I haven't been swimming since my son was about 5, and that was in the school swimming pool. He is 37 now LOL! Funny thing is, I live within a 5 minute walk of a swimming beach LOL!

If it isn't too hot tomorrow, I MIGHT prune some shrubs and get the pruning into the skip before it goes. Otherwise I will have to pay for removal.

Quiet day here. I was going swimming, but am just too tired, so decided to clean house and walk Buds instead. It is raining hard here, so maybe just throw a toy for him for a bit.

The contractors are working next door. I think they missed the good weather window. Haven't seen them since before Thanksgiving, I think. Anyway a long time. I know they are building the shipping container condo's inside a warehouse and then will drop them on the frame and hook them to utilities. I still haven't seen any sewer or water lines put in yet.

Mum loved the photo.

I went to my daughter's for breakfast yesterday. My son video called from Mexico where he is on holiday. I went to Mum for lunch, after. My brother and his partner were there at the time. I got a lovely photo of the 3 of them. I got home just after 3p.m.

Today I went to my sister-in-law's for lunch. She is my late hubby's sister. His brother and his wife came over, too, so it was nice.

When I got back home I fell asleep in the chair straight after. My cat decided to meow for food and woke me. I fell asleep as soon as I got home yesterday, too, and my snoring woke me LOL! I don't think I had been asleep for long. It's only the second time I have dozed off in the afternoon since April so I am quite pleased.

Fresh salmon here is around NZ$30 (US$2024) to $35/kg (2.204lb) (US$23.61). The fresh fish I eat is either Gurnard or Snapper - the prices are pretty much the same as the Salmon.

I FINISHED my Xmas shopping today ... not that there was much to get. I started to come home and got about a mile out of town then realized I didn't have the Supermarket Gift Card I had ordered, so had to turn around and get it. I know have 2 which are for my daughter and son-in-law for their present. I use Flybuys which is a Credit Card Reward scheme, so I don't actually have to pay money out as such. My sister and I are giving our Mum a big framed collage photo with her and Dad ... 5 of THEIR wedding photos including just them, and the bridal party, (nearly 74 years ago) plus one of Mum and Dad at my brother's wedding in 1975, and the final one was of my 3 brothers, my sister, Mum and Dad and my brother-in-law. It is the only photo that I can recall of all of us together. She is talking a lot about Dad lately which is why I thought about it. He died in 1980.

It is so expensive here and I worry about the quality at our little store. I have to drive ten miles to find a store with a good fish market in it. I try to stop there every couple of weeks and pick up some good quality fish.

I like salmon but only canned pink salmon with a little vinegar on it. I find fresh salmon too strong for me. My daughter and her husband absolutely love it and will eat huge pieces given the chance. The supermarket always has a heap for sale.

Yes, we have Chinook salmon too. I live seven blocks from the Columbia River. I don't fish, but I sure love cooking and eating the salmon when I can get some.

Hale: I like that. It also means healthy and hearty. Another great meaning for a tool that keeps us strong.

I am on my third machine now The first two were named after the same hurricane. I am going to keep with that windy theme: This one is Chinook from the warm wet coastal winds that blow over our area and make it rain a lot. I ditched the humidifier so I don't have rain out anymore, but I still like the sound of the Chinook Winds and I love the way the moisture in the humidity from them makes me feel.

I've named mine Hale, which means nook, retreat. Almost named it Snoozy but realized I'm the one that is snoozy.

Welcome to the team. Sounds like you are at war with your machine. Can you tell us what is bugging you about your nightmare. Maybe we can help.

Someone on this team named their machine "Clint" after Clint Eastwood. That I really understood. Although Flo and Wheezy are pretty great too.

I have never named inanimate objects, yet I name spiders and flies all the time. I know I can do this.

I know.....Freda after Hurricane Freda and Columbus after the Columbus Day Storm which were actually the same storm with two names. I was nine years old. It was quite exciting till we had to drive out to check on the horses the next day. Our horses were fine, but one of the dairy farms had totally flattened. I could not wrap my young animal loving head around all the cows who lost their lives. So much damage. Back home again we had a wonderful time building forts in all the downed trees.

Sounds like fun, need to think about it though!

I need to get up, brush myself off and keep doing it until I learn to do it right!

I thought that it might be fun to name your CPAP machine. So what I propose here is for you to get creative and then post your machine name!
I have already done this to my machines:

Flo - she's my main machine
Wheezy - this one is my backup.

If you can't come up with one then use one of the other ones that are posted. This way we can see which names are popular.
