I've had results just doing at least 150 minutes a week. I've also read that weight loss is more like 80-20, with 80% diet related and 20% exercise, so 90 minutes of cardio a day seems a bit excessive.

When it is not blazing hot and humid I generally get well over 30 minutes per day - average wise I would say I am at very good level -- do have to add back my weights though that I have been neglecting for many, many months now

I do a lot of walking and have yet to get into an actual exercise program. I had devised one last yr. which I need to get back into while I am in front of the TV set. Okay I will get that program out and do it.

No, with a bad foot, knee and back the best I can do is short walks and short spirts on my recumbent bike a few times per day. I mostly have to rely on healthy eating and calorie counting.

That article is true for me.
I really try to exercise at least an hour 5 days a week. I am losing weight VERY slowly... about 7 pounds since April 2009.
If I exercise 90 minutes daily, which is hard for me to do, I finally begin to lose weight.
My main types of exercise right now is road, mountain, or spin biking and hill walking and hiking.

Joined gym Tuesday and had my first water aerobics class yesterday burning 400 calories! It's a weight bearing, whole body hour of exercise. Lots of fun, too! My goal is to attend gym 3x per week doing H2o aerobics, zumba and piloga, I'm on my way now.

I aim for at least an hour six days a week when we are at home. In summer, it is easy to do more, as I rise early to work in yard and garden in the relative cool of morning, retreat to indoor tasks in midday, then swim for an hour in late afternoon to clean up and cool down. In winter scheduling exercise is harder, as local pools close and snow can keep me shut in. But I still usually get in my hour, either driving to a neighboring college's pool, visiting our medical center's fitness room, or walking around town on errands. I'm getting much fitter, and really miss exercise when travel intervenes - I try to at least use our motel pool for 40 mins. on those days, plus walk some. But the pounds still are loathe to budge! Do this while you are young, people! It does NOT get easier! emoticon

I still exercise minimally. I would like to do more, but just haven't set up anything consistent yet. This is my biggest struggle with the SP lifestyle. I seem to come up with every excuse under the sun not to do it. I really want to want to!!

I try to walk at least 6 days out of 7 for an average of 70 minutes a day. I don't have a set strength training plan. I might do some exercises while I am watching television or washing the dishes. I probably should be doing a lot more of the strength training.

There are different opinions about the length of time required. I just read today we should do 60 minutes to lose weight, 30 minutes to maintain.

When I go to the gym, I do 35 minutes on the elliptical with a resistance program, and about 30 minutes weight training. If I'm at home, I usually do a 45 minute fast-paced cardio workout.

But, I still don't work out every day - usually every other day unless life gets in the way!

I was reading an article that said obese people need to do 90 minutes of cardio per day to lose weight, and 60 minutes of cardio to maintain weight loss; all of this in addition to strength training.

It took 90 minutes alone for me to wrap my mind around this. I work out every day, but only for 30 minutes. Now I definitely feel like I'm not doing enough.

How much do you work out per day?
