Today I rested my leg to let it heal as it still is hurting and we know that real pain should not be pushed. I also had my tuna for dinner on lettuce instead of bread like the rest of the family.

I had fresh strawberries for breakfast.

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.

I rode my bike to do a deposit at the bank today. I'm not sure why I stopped doing that. It's a nice break in the day to get outside and doesn't take much time at all. I was probably extra sweaty one day and then didn't do it again after that. If the weather continues to cool, at least I can add that to my afternoons!

I ate a Pink Lady Apple today.

Zucchini bread is so good! I hope you get the time to bake it and enjoy it! There are two large zucchinis in the break room at work that would be perfect for stuffed zucchini, especially with the garden tomatoes I got from my aunt last night!

I had blueberries on my cereal today.

I did calf raises while brushing my teeth. Any time I can fit in some exercise is helpful on my journey to better health!

That dinner sounds awesome!

I had some grilled Green Peppers on my salad tonight during dinner.

Just a reminder: tomorrow is the last day to post for this challenge, but the mileage challenge runs through Saturday. I also am looking for some feedback in regards to future challenges. Be sure to chime in here:

I had a decent night's sleep too, first time in a week. What a great feeling and I didn't think of it as being part of health until your post.

I also made dinner at home today, an egg scramble with a ton of peppers and zucchini, since I have a lot of zucchini from the garden left in my fridge (thinking of turning the last 2 into bread). I've been eating out a lot this week due to not getting to the grocery store. I got up to the grocery store tonight after seeing the school and meeting the kids' teachers today. I'm prepared with a ton of good fruits, both fresh and frozen.

I ate a pickle today, it was from my fresh garden picked cucumbers that I prepared last week. Yum!

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.

I had a great night's sleep last night, which I recognize is an important part of my healthy lifestyle.I woke up refreshed and ready for the day.

I've planned my day to make sure to include a strength training session.

I added a banana to my cereal this morning and an apple with lunch.

And, those lemon cucumbers look cool!

I biked up to Robbinsdale and back tonight. Even with the heat, I could feel "fall" in the air. Not sure how I feel about that, but I'm just going to try to enjoy every last drop of summer before it goes away!

I ate Iceburg Lettuce tonight.

My leg has been acting up more lately and today was one of those days, but I did get some laundry done, in which I have to go down the hall to the laundry room. I carry 2 loads at once to get it done more quickly, I like having 2 washers and dryers available to me at once.

I also had a salad for lunch for the first time in nearly a week. Since I haven't been to the grocery store this week, things are looking a little bare. I still managed some mixed greens with my yellow tomatoes and a bit of leftover steak.

There was spinach in my greens today too.

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.

I had another lesson about staying on the path to a healthier me: Stop Obsessing. I played hockey last night when there were only 6 skaters on our side, so I was sweating pretty good. I weighed myself when I got home and realized if I didn't eat dinner, I could go to sleep and probably make my weigh-in goal. But I decided that the weigh-in is just a number and though I want to be accountable, I also don't want to "cheat the system". Even more, I realized that skipping a post-workout meal was NOT on the list of things that would benefit my health.

So I ate my dinner, went to bed, and accepted the scale this morning. I'm hoping the food kicked my metabolism into high gear and, with proper rest and nutrition, I'll see the benefits on the scale in a few days. And if not, at least I wasn't kept up all night with hunger pains!

More blueberries in my cereal...we got a big carton!

I'm seriously thrown off by this having to get up again. Glad I started this week so I won't be as tired for school starting next week.

Here's the link to where I bought the seeds for my lemon cucumbers: www.burpee.com/vegetables/cucumbers/
sp
ecialty-cucumbers/cucumber-lemon-proR>d000691.html
They're a mild cucumber and they grow round and yellow like a lemon. They don't taste too much different than the straight 8's we planted, which are a green normal cucumber.

I had some raspberries in my morning parfait.

I ate a Sweet Potato during lunch. Well, it could have been a Yam. I'm never quite sure of the difference and whenever I look it up online, I get even more confused! Even the grocery stores seem to label the same items differently from time to time.

Homemade peanut butter!? Sounds awesome!

My husband and I cleaned out part of the garage to fit a chest freezer so we can have more healthy ready-to-eat go-to food instead of leaning towards mac & cheese or fast food when we're hungry with no desire to cook. It's just in time - my uncle should be bringing up his sweet corn from the farm in a couple weeks! It's nice to de-clutter and move towards the life we want to live!

I added blueberries to cereal again and have kale salad for lunch - I love that stuff! It helps me reach my veggie goal as well.

You not alone Katie, most people I know aren't fans of the heat. I never used to be either, so I'm not sure what happened in that regard. I actually went for another bike ride tonight. Not as long since I normally don't ride two days in a row and I didn't want to push it. But, I'm running low on my mileage goal this month (probably due to vacation) and am still low on my outdoor biking miles for the year due to our chilly spring, so that's why I went anyway.

I had some Tomatoes in my salad tonight.

I want to know more about these lemon cucumbers. I've never seen or heard of them before!

I set my alarm today to get back on track for school starting next week and I can get back on my sleep schedule. I also did a little bit of cleaning so I can feel like I have my home back to organized. It was that way once. The kids and I shelled peanuts so I could make homemade peanut butter.

Today I ate strawberries with my morning yogurt.

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.

Sounds awesome! Someday I hope to have a garden like yours.

I am ready for a busy work week. I packed my lunch to make sure I can stay within range and start cutting down sodium. This is the biggest thing I can do to make sure I stay on track during work. I've also made a goal to cook dinner at home more often, starting tonight! We have those zucchini and tomatoes to use up still.

I added a cup of blueberries to my cereal this morning and had a banana for midmorning snack. So good! I love summer produce (but hate summer heat..we're opposite there, Ken).

I cut up some of my lemon cucumbers for lunch today. I love the variety my garden gives!

It's Sunday. I was lazy and since I'm hormonal I ate way too much Nutella. Tomorrow's a new day! I'd better go set my alarm so I can start getting into school mode for next week.

I ate Grapes tonight. I'm not sure if they were a different variety or what, but they were super good!

I went for a three hour bike ride today (a little over 45 miles). I really don't mind the heat these days. In fact, I'd rather bike in this weather than when it's 70. I get cold with the self-induced windchill when it gets around 70 or cooler. Whereas, today just felt like stepping into a nice warm bath or sauna. Haha! I guess I was kind of cold when I started due to all of the icy water I had earlier in the day in anticipation of my ride, so it felt good. My only complaint is that I hate wearing sunscreen, but I guess it's a necessary evil.

Keep up the great work!

Hi everyone!

I agree - weekends are tough! I struggle with my eating more than anything these days.

This morning, I took a walk around the block to get my heart rate up a little and see how hot it is outside. I'm heading to the gym later today and am excited to get a lot of cardio done in the AC. We're finally heading to the store to replenish our produce and I'm making a tomato-zucchini dish for dinner tonight.

Today I didn't do much. I was tired so I took a nap. Weekends are harder to get anything done. I did go to the front and get my newspaper and mail, that's always two full flights of stairs and a hallway.

I had fresh blueberries and raspberries in my yogurt this morning.

The state fair always add miles to a day! I just hope you shared any of those indulgences you needed to try. I still haven't had the deep fried Twinkie, I just wanted a bite, but had to take a little one to the bathroom and by the time I got back, my husband had eaten the whole thing! I still give him grief even though that was a few years back.

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.

Nice job at the state fair! 10.5 miles of walking seems about right for what I remember from trips there.

Cakemakermom - I also take the water, and even got my husband to do it sometimes because he enjoys saving the $2-3 on the meal! Next time I go to Noodles, I'll have to try that.

Today, I wanted to stay in bed but got up and did my bandy workout, including adding extra reps where I thought I could. I whined, as always, a few times, but finished all the strength training, plyometrics, cardio, and core work that was on the list! It's rare that I have time to do it all, so maybe doing it on a weekend will stick with me!

I added craisins to my breakfast cereal because we're out of bananas, and had broccoli, spinach, and mushrooms with lunch.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

We went to the State Fair tonight. We had a blast and ran into a few people we know which is always fun in such a big place with a ton of people. My action for the day was parking a mile away from the fair and walking there. This added extra exercise (the final tally was 10.5 miles of outdoor walking to, from, and during the fair) and saved us $10-15 for parking.

I had corn on the cob today, of course!

Oh, and yes Katie, I had some seed issues, but it was worth it!

My action is that I picked the salad and small bowl of noodles at Noodles today for lunch. I had a new mix with spinach and wine dressing on the noodles. I always choose the free glass of water with my eat out meals.

Besides the spinach I also had cucumbers and tomatoes in the salad.

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.

Ken, you must have been picking seeds out of your teeth all day! Sounds delicious though.

I made plans to see my sister and nephew after work today, but made it clear that I will be going to the gym for a good workout first. It would be easier to skip the workout, but this is what I need to do to stay healthy.

Instead of reaching for the Friday morning doughnuts at work, my morning snack was almonds and raisins.

A meeting went late and I could have stopped for high calorie but comforting fast food on my way back to the office. Instead, I remembered the leftover veggie tray and hummus and the tuna sandwich I didn't eat yesterday and had a MUCH healthier lunch. I eat when I get stressed, so recognizing it and realizing I don't NEED to stop for fries was a big step!

I had celery, carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli with my lunch today.

My action today was going to the gym late tonight. Well, after 9pm, which is late for me to work out. After a busy and stressful day, I almost just opted out. But, I've learned that rationalizing myself out of exercising is usually not a good idea. I can't remember ever thinking, "wow, I'm glad I didn't exercise yesterday!" So, I just did it and feel good now.

I also ate a Pink Lady Apple today.

I managed to get out today, despite the heat, and did some walking with the kids. I can't wait for school to start! The park was full of school aged people today!

I'm eating a salad with purple beans, yellow tomatoes and cucumber all from my personal garden today.

I also struggle with the lure of crawling back into bed, although I'm doing much better these days. Something that helped me was when I heard the saying "The morning breeze has secrets to tell you, donít go back to sleep." I can't remember where I heard it, but I basically replay it in my head almost every morning (including today!). It usually helps me decide to just stay up.

I'm better with SP in the morning...

I again added a banana to my cereal this morning and packed a lunch with raisins. I am running out of fresh produce and nearly forgot that dried fruit should also count!

When I got up, I did some jumping jacks to get the heart rate going and wake up. This might be an easy thing I can do to make it easier to get up, get going, and maybe even run before work some days! Otherwise, I'm prone to deciding to wake up but falling back into bed. I'm looking for all the sustainable lifestyle changes I can to reach my goal!

Hi Ken!

I had a banana in my cereal this morning, then went to Subway, said, "No cheese," which is rare for me, and added all the veggies: lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, onion, green pepper!

To accomplish my goal today, when I headed back from a seminar, I could have gone straight back to work and then been too tired for the gym, so I went to the gym first to make sure I got my workout in!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Hi everyone! I'm Katie and initially used Spark People as motivation and tools to lose weight. I adopted the healthy lifestyle and was a runner, but a job change to a sedentary desk job helped put the pounds back on. I'm here for motivation and help to get back to a healthy lifestyle and back to a weight I am comfortable with. My current routine includes lifting weights, cardio, and hockey. I'm jealous of all the kids who started skating when they were young because I may never catch up, but it's still super fun.

Hi, I'm Max. I have been using SparkPeople for quite some time. I lost 70 pounds initially. Unfortunately I let some of those pounds find their way back onto my body. So going to try to lose them again. I resigned from a stressful job and will now be substitute teaching this year so I'll have more time to workout. Yay! I plan to return to running. It will help me get back into those jeans that no longer fit.

Hi!
I joined Spark to originally lose weight. I lost 50 pounds (plus a couple more) and have been working on the last 30, but the weight is not as important as keeping healthy at this point. I keep coming back to inspire both others and myself to keep on going every day. Since it's going to be HOT the next couple of weeks, I need to work on inside ways to keep on moving. I have been focusing on making sure I'm getting at least 5 fruits and veggies each day since I tend to slowly keep on losing the remaining weight when I keep over that level.

An excuse is just a challenge to figure out how to do something different.

Here's one more challenge for August! It will run from August 20-30 and is very similar to the last challenge, with a couple small tweaks. Runners-up from the August 1-15 Challenge have some bonus points already if they choose to participate again (see the August 1-15 thread for the bonus points awarded). Also, if you won a book in the last August Challenge, you're going to be exempt from winning a book this time around. But, I encourage you to join to help motivate others and you can still win a SparkGoodie!

Since this team is location-based rather than goal-based, we're a group with a lot of different goals. This challenge is designed to help us get to know each other and reach our personal goals. Who knows, we might have a lot of the same goals, too! The prize is a hardcover copy of the new Spark Solution book!

To join, make a post in this thread telling us why you currently use SparkPeople. You can save the specifics for your SparkPage if you like, but include some sort of core reason/motivation. Some examples might be: lose weight, maintain weight, train for a marathon, control diabetes, improve blood pressure, learn how to cook, gain weight, learn healthy eating habits... you get the idea. You get 10 points for this intro/goal post. If you participated in the last challenge, feel free to copy/paste your previous intro, but you do need to include one in this thread to join and get the 10 base points. You can post the intro today, you don't need to wait until the 20th.

Then, every day from August 20-30, post an action you took to move toward your stated goal.

You get 1 point for each day you post an action. You can post as many actions as you like and cheer on others, but you only get 1 point for each day you post an action. You can include as little or much as you like, but you need at least a sentence to count. For this challenge, you also don't get points for yesterday's actions or things you think you will do tomorrow. The idea is to act today and post it today. If you need some ideas, check out SparkPeople's Secrets of Success:

Additionally, you can get 1 bonus point each day if you mention a specific fruit or vegetable you ate that day. This can be in a separate post or the same post as your action (although it doesn't count as your daily action). Again, you can do this as much as you like, but you only get 1 bonus point for each day you post a fruit/veggie consumed. An example would be "I ate an apple today."

Finally, if you participate in the August mileage challenge, you also get 5 bonus points. It's not too late to join, let's get moving! It will get you some bonus points and help you feel awesome, too!

I'll pop in from time to time to cheer you on!
